MOOVIE REVIEW : A Very Special Love
RATING: 3 KUMAGS
This movie directed by Ms. Cathy Garcia Molina involves an innocent wishful lady Laida played by pop princess Sarah Geronimo and a egoistic rich step son Miggy Montenegro portrayed by local guy next door matinee idol John Lloyd Cruz. This film was also given Rated A by Cinema Evaluation Board. It has grossed Php 14 million on its first day, 40 Million Pesos on its 3rd day, and a whopping 80 Million on its 5th day of showing. Knowing the star's following..these figures ain't surprising!
Again I was forced into watching Filipino films by my wifey (ellow! ^_^) so I went ahead and slaved away getting in line on the last jumpacked full show at the Gateway Mall in the Araneta Center.Grab popcorns and a few sodas then started. Class C D and E were prominently scattered around an almost full cinema. Don't get me wrong but they were really there! You'll hear them shouting YIHEES and HIHI'S...at least I was brave enough to review it right? ^_^ Heheh....
The movie started... then there goes the hecklers and jeering on the back. I wasn't even distracted about it but I was DEAD AFRAID these people were gonna start pulling out streamers and banners for the lead stars. While some of them did, I was also wierded by people coughing and sneezing. They probably got sick of the weather these past few weeks since its all rain and cloud. Then the scorching heat!
Back to the story, Laida was a girl who met Miggy... on a school project which needed her to interview the rich kid. With all things wonderful, she liked him from the very beginning and while having a crush on him...it meant her taking her first job applications to Miggy's Men's Magazine eventually....a magazine that was in the verge of going bankrupt and a constant second rate in all levels. Losing money and the respect of the Montenegro Board and Bloodline, Miggy tries to save the business but obliterates his own working team...they resigned... he hires the noobs... then they all tried made it work, not knowing Miggy was falling inlove with Laida already.(BTW, they did not even had a single kissing scene in the movie would you believe that?!) yet I was afraid for my life I might die from ant bites coz it was all a SWEET FLICK!
Twists and turns, it never did recover. He got mad and lost everything, even to Laida. Regained himself back, tried to win over the girl again... then when they got back together... POOF! it became coco crunch!!!
I specifically liked the parts where the SUN DANCE was done. Yeah. you better watch out for that! ^_^
Even though I don't watch Filipino Movies that much, I'd gladly recommend this to CORNY and MUSHY people! Yeah I know you'll find yourselves trapped in the oblivion of movie house seats coz YOU KNOW YOU'LL LIKE IT!
For the boyfriends trapped in the art of choosing a movie.... I FEEL YOUR PAIN! Arrgghhh!!!!
All in all...I'm going to give this movie 3 KUMAGS for effort and for getting an A on the cinema board. You all know we have to be CHEESY sometimes! ^_^
