The country's premier professional basketball league just got better when we witnessed it a couple of weeks ago in Araneta Coliseum. It was also the first time that the league will have opening ceremonies in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It is after all a national thing so it is but right to see it executed in Manila, Cebu and Davao. Wish I was in Cebu at this time because the production numbers were awesome there, in Davao too. TV5 was streaming this LIVE on public TV so bless them! Now Filipinos would be able to watch the games right in front of their couches as it happens!
The PBA Board of Governors were introduced one by one. I personally know some of them from the companies that they represent.
Meralco Bolts had their muse walking to center stage, represented by Bianca Reyes and Stephanie Rowe together with their Team Captain Jared Dillinger. Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters on the other hand had Chanel Morales and Danielle Lee. Alaska Aces walked with pretty 2013 Mutya ng Davao Pia Hidalgo flanked by their Team Captain Tony Dela Cruz. Rain or Shine came in with current 2013 Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific together with glamour boy Chris Tiu and Jireh Ibanes. Air21 Express had Team Captain Asi Taulava escorting Lauren Young. Barako Bull Energy Cola had Ms. Earth 2012 Teresa Fajksova.
Then pandemonium began as Barangay Ginebra San Miguel went down to the floor and got THE Marian Rivera to walk with them!
GlobalPort Batang Pier had Maxene Magalona.
Petron Blaze Boosters was represented by Gretchen Ho.
San Mig Coffee Mixers was booed a little bit because they had to battle Barangay Ginebra later on but they were there with my gym mate Isabel Oli. She was also escorted by Jerwin Gaco.
What's funny is that even the other teams wanted to have their photo and selfies taken with Marian that evening. I had to also take a shot even if it was pitch dark haha.
Then the people started with the national anthem, then a prayer + a moment of silence for the Yolanda victims. The prayer was done by the athletes in Manila, Cebu and Davao.
The comissioner also declared the games open. Then, there were various production numbers in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Great job TV5 for doing these simultaneous broadcasts.
Then they had simple ceremonies to honor several players including Benjie Paras and other players from the league.
Congratulations to those who got recognized as legends of Philippine Basketball!
Then, Ginebra also posted their first win 86-69 against the former champ San Mig Coffee Mixers. This from a huge lead in the first few quarters. That's the magic that this game has and it all happens on the PBA PHILIPPINE CUP only on TV5!
