We got the chance to interview Richard Yap and Dennis Trillo at the Star Cinema offices about their new movie called "You're Still The One". The film also stars Maja Salvador, Ellen Adarna and is produced by film giants Star Cinema and Regal Films. We talked to Maja yesterday so we thought it was only Richard and Dennis that we were about to talk to, Maja appeared in the last few minutes as they were headed for a mall show. Anyway, it was so nice to see Dennis Trillo in the soils of another station. It's refreshing to see that all that network war thing seemed to have died down and they all work in projects like these. That said, they arrived inside the Star Cinema conference room and saw us bloggers plus some news camera men. I interviewed them in different projects but not in one movie, this looks interesting.
Richard Yap starts "This is a very different role for me because in a way this is very controversial if you compare this with other roles I've done before. This talks about giving a chance, if you are meant to be, how to move on, and ask what if's? You must find a way how to move on."
He adds "Women are more emotional, men are more of the thinking type, so you often ask questions before you try it. Vincent is an ambitious person, remember he helped Elise even if he's on the line. Maja and I haven't really talked that much because we had limited time, we often meet in the set. But we worked already in the past in My Binondo Girl, so we're like friends for 4 years so it wasn't awkward at all."
"It depends on the situation, if you're both single, I don't think age is a hindrance in any relationship. You see a lot of these now, even if the other one is older they still last. Sometimes if they're both at the same age, they split up in few days. Destiny and fate plays a part in your relationships, it helps, people come to relationships for a reason."
"At this stage in my life, a hypothetical perfect relationship won't break what I have now, that's different so no. This is the first time I've worked with Chris Martinez and I won't hesitate to work with him again if given the chance. I had a pleasant time working with him. It's my first time to work with Dennis, that's a first. This was really scheduled so we didn't have any problems, I'm still doing Kung Fu Chinito which will show soon but that didn't have any issues on schedules either. I think love have to be a two way street, not just one way, a mutual decision, a mutual feeling. Not unrequited."
"There are some people who are in relationships that might be able to help you understand how relationships work. There will be relationships that you will think might be right, but it's all wrong, you just might feel it is, but if you're looking for the right one, you must continue looking for it and not just because you're getting something, you're benefiting, or it's easy. If it's not the right one, make sure it's right morally. I've met people who do that, we can't do anything about it but they have to help themselves. You see, before I got married I even had a cool off but when we got back together, I knew she was the one. I want to be known as a versatile actor that can do multiple roles, that won't be typecasted. I can't play cutie roles, I can play only a certain age, we thought about films or movies that we'd like to do personally but we're really limited."
Dennis says "I'm happy that I've made something of this genre, I'd like to thank Star and Regal films because I get to work with other stars that are from other stations. We all need to make sure problems from the past would not happen because this is after all, a second chance. This is some sort of test, it's a decision, if we ought to make a decision or not."
"You always learn about relationships, but still it would be up to you, my character is carefree, he's matured and his thoughts on relationships while he's growing old makes a lot of people relate to it."
"You're not going to hate my character, you'll love him. I'm happy to finally work with Maja because she's busy, but she never loses enthusiasm and energy at work. Even if she's tired she won't show it, she excels in every scene and we talk about it. It's because she's beautiful inside and out, she's happy and I'm so lucky to have worked with her."
"There's always a chance, if you haven't been able to work it out initially, you can still do it if you are meant to be. Maybe I'm not really the typical showbiz person, I have reservations. She gets to know me a little better everyday and I think she finds that nice. It's my second time to work with him (Director Chris Martinez), the first being Tempation Island where I only had a small bit. But this time it's a whole film so I really get to know him and his work more. I am so proud to work with statured artists in ABSCBN, so I'm really happy. This film had a lot of other stars, this chance just made me thankful, grateful and honored to be just a part of it. I'm working on three film projects right now, since this has ended I'm down with two. In TV, I'm not doing that for the meantime so I could concentrate on films more."
"In real life, I'd like to see someone that I really want, no matter what problems arise, you make a way. If relationships fail, I don't really force it. We all have to move on, no matter how much you like the person, you only can do much. I hope people get to see the film because the characters are real, the things happen in real life, you'll see the wrong things that happen, but it might make you realize how to do the right things after this. I don't think about nominations that much, I never expect, I just hope."
"The last time I had a second chance, I can't really remember but it's a big world out there, everyone deserves a second chance. I believe in happy endings, everyone needs a nice end, I hope in my life, and my relationships would be the same. It's important for artists to do things that vary flavor, I'd like to earn the respect of the movie goers, even my peers more than even getting rich doing this."
You're Still The One will show on May 27th, make sure you drop by theaters on that date. This is produced by Star Cinema and Regal Films.
