OPEN with JC Santos and Arci Muñoz

Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Spent some hours in ABSCBN to talk to the stars of the film OPEN by Blacksheep and TRex outfits. Good reviews so far, but we had to hear their views about the topic of the movie, it is after all about open relationships. We felt how they got so serious about the journey of the two main characters.

Arci shares “I want to be able to do scenes that would satisfy the director, the artists, it was heavy, even the location was the same. I had to drink so I could vent out cry. We never faked it, I had to drink even before the scene and it was really had. I saw JC’s thing, but funny it wasn’t seen in the camera and we laughed about it. It didn’t make the cut on the heavy scene. I like the light scenes, if there is cake, wine, I love those scenes. I don’t know if there is one, it might spoil the movie. All movies I made, I wasn’t so involved but OPEN had me crying so much in the theater. I couldn’t breathe and had to freshen up before the interviews. It affected me much. If it has been mutually decided, maybe I could think about it. Maybe I’ll try it now since I’m single. It was just the right project for me, maybe in the future I could do it. I didn’t agree on it when I read it, but there’s a lot of types of being open so as long as you have constant and proper communication, and agree on it, maybe, and date people. We didn’t think about how we look, it is the feelings, the emotions, especially the ending because it was heartfelt. And I had to go back a lot of times. I have been cheated by all my exes, all three of them, and since we didn’t have rules or talked about it first, that’s cheating.”

JC says “My favorite scene was when he knelt down, Ethan isn’t like me, I couldn’t believe sometimes how much he’s like that. We are so different. Is it right? Do I receive things correctly!? I didn’t know I was funny, I felt he was wrong a lot of times. But I was with guys in my row of seats in the premiere, and we were laughing about it, it was because we know why.”

Andoy says “I guess that is also my statement, that ending had to be revised 27 times, it depends on the person looking at it on how they want to end. Arci was also sick at that time, I took that inspiration based on the emotions that the artists had that time. My friends were iffy about the topic, they are so sensitive, my artists often had to switch. I have no idea if there are plans on joining other festivals, TREX and Blacksheep will have to decide on that. The original directors cut was 2 hours and 9 minutes, maybe the producers cut would be shorter, but that had the explanation, maybe if Netflix picks it up it will be better. It went to different drafts, but I don’t think you’ll love Ethan after. It discusses a lot of taboo, ironic even the top grosser is about LGBT, there are a lot of things to talk about especially discrimination.”

It’s still showing on theaters, go check out the film OPEN and maybe, just maybe, you’ll change your mind about it like they did.

Extra Service with Director Chris Martinez

Wednesday, January 04, 2017

Chris Martinez just headlined last MMFF with his great Eugene Domingo film "Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2" plus the blockbuster Vice Ganda and Coco Martin starrer "Super Parental Guardians" and he's not stopping there because this 2017 he wants to open the new year with a bang. A movie with Coleen Garcia, Arci Muñoz and Jessy Mendiola, Star Cinema proudly presents a swash buckling, sexy action adventure film called EXTRA SERVICE

No, it's not what you think you naughty little boy. It's affinity to that and what is served is something funny. I've seen the trailer and got to see Coleen do waxing services with Vin Abrenica, Arci does foot massage with a foot looking man, and Jessy play around with Enzo Pineda. Now they're not just masseurs all day because they're a real deal crime fighting squad and agent spies set to seek the lost "Perlas Ng Silangan". They've got to find the secret treasure that belongs to the Philippine government via the original femme funny fatale Ms. Carmi Martin.

Direk Chris Quirps "This movie is in some way a work around beautiful faces. They trained under Erwin Tagle who's a champimm fighter. They were all willing to undergo rigorous trainings, they did mixed martial arts and were done seriously. But if they need to make it funny, they also use massage moves. The formula? There's none, but you always do what you can creatively. This is up my alley and I can do this without doing anything nasty. This is spas by day and spies by night and I've done really funny things so make sure you stay at the last part of the movie because there will be something there for you. I always have flare, something sexy, something explosive and more. The ladies have no hangups, when Star Cinema called me there are already stars and I've worked with some of them years ago. They're going to be funny physically so it's very new to them and the audience. Add to that really physically fit boys like Enzo, Vin and EJ and you know you're having a great time. They were afraid at first but all I asked of them is to just have fun. When they made this, they were developing characters and they envibed them right away. Even if Arci was tired, she got it already, no qualms at all. You'll love them for sure. They (the men) were excited and knew they had to show everything that they can do, they're going to channel different characters and you have to watch how they get involved with the ladies. EJ may not be in the trailer but he's got a surprise in this film as an ex who wants to get back with her (Arci). They have different relationship angles, but all in the spirit of fun without being overboard on sexy comedy."

The movie is under Star Cinema and Skylight Films and will show on January 11. This is the first offering of the production so you better watch this if you love the ladies!

The Women of Camp Sawi

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

This film has been connecting to this generation in a massive way. For those who have loved, hurt, lied upon and are still in the process of healing, Camp Sawi is but a refuge set to be a cure to the lifelong mystery of "how to move on". The cast is an ensemble of equally interesting women who had in one way or another had gone through struggles themselves. How do they play the role of these women? Is there some weird connection with their real life personas? Or is this a dream? Or is it just their past haunting them too? Here are some snippets of their interview during the presscon a few weeks ago. I saved this in case they were doing the premier night already (which was a while ago). I didn't get to go because of the rain, but here's some of the things they said about this film and about their lives that might interest you. Just a few things that I picked up!

"I think I've been very cautious after that failed relationship, I was thinking we might talk, and get back together. I went back to who I was but a little smarter because I know what to do already. My character is in love with Dennis and it's really a good thing to have a small part of yourself in the role so people would still recognize that it is you, and how you are as an actress. I hope there really is a Camp Sawi because everything else has a cure, it should be the same with those who are brokenhearted including your friends." - Bela Padilla

"You'll enter a bitter phase. But you'll later realize all that lacked in that relationship, learn to fill it up the next time I do have one. It's normal. It's going to make you stronger. Taking him out of the equation felt like life had no meaning anymore, I needed to find myself after I was blinded and I needed to know who I am as a person, to love yourself and never require a compromise. Being an actress, it works when I don't bring things like these to work. I understood myself more and make the character not that expressive. You get to know people here because there are no cellphone signals, you really need to talk and it's healthy. Camp Sawi is something that I did for myself. I explored, and I got to know about the country, and more of myself." -Andi Eigenmann

"I need the most important people in my life to tell me what I did, what I need to do and what I should do the next time. I feel I can now conquer anything in a relationship. I am stronger now. I feel it's a part of me, I know how to act like the person because I personally did went through that. I'm sure everybody had a heartbreak. We're often asked about opening a real Camp Sawi, they wanted it to come true and they have the actual are still there." -Arci Muñoz

"I don't want to get the character as close as what I experienced in real life. Hers is a different world than mine, the only similarity is probably the capability to love, but the rest are made like what I do in theater." -Kim Molina

"We also did a dance number and fit into the role of those who are in the "sawi" situation. It went a little viral, it cures everything when you're sad. It was fun doing that!" -Yassi Pressman

Camp Sawi will be shown on theaters this August 24, 2016. It's a stellar cast and moving on just mean helping others so you can help yourself. Mall shows will also happen in different malls, follow their official page to know more. I bet you're itching your hands to know how to really move on.... and judging from the people who watched it earlier, it's a good one!"
