ARJO ATAYDE Holds Emotionally Charged State of the District Address in QC

Monday, March 24, 2025

While the rest of the world is trying to solve the various international crises, I'm witnessing something good in my own turf. See, this isn't a common occurrence in this side of Quezon City, but the 1st District Congressman is telling us the state in his area. He's Arjo Atayde, and I think he's in a whole different league.

Communication of his current projects, accomplishments and those that he's still working on was the topic during this event. Sadly, I don't see this happen in other districts so it was refreshing that he really made an effort to do so especially when people are asking for accountability.

The State of the District Address' call was still his priority projects in the matters of health, education, livelihood and his promise of doing it with the "Aksyon Agad" spirit in the 3 years he served here. He also is pushing for more reforms with regards to current mental health efforts, ways in youth development and social welfare for the most affected individuals in the barangays he carries out duties on.

Arjo says "With the regular talk with our residents, we get to act on things, their needs and the Aksyon Agad movement has resulted in actions that directly benefit our constituents. Life became easy for tax payers, it also saved government resources and improved health care systems. With our specialized centers, people from different regions now have access to it . We also want to stop those who manipulate prices, to provide affordable food. We imposed Student Loan Payment moratorium especially during calamities, ensuring academic recovery and to support them from elementary to college. We have also the Expanded VAWC act to give more protection for women and children. We also tackled the Eddie Garcia Law, Quezon City General Hospital to become a medical hub."

He adds "We want to make sure people have food on their table and a brighter future. We are always ready to share our blessings to help more people. Aksyon Agad was aimed to help people with their lives, with training, with the help of government agencies, start expanding businesses and increase earnings. In health, we conducted medical and dental missions, it helped over 75 thousand individuals, 60 patients a day in our dialysis center, some free eyeglasses, guarantee letters for payments and on the go services for communities too. 4598 students have received support with the help of CHED, receiving scholarships, funding Senior High School students through the governments AKAP program. We are supporting sports programs like in the recent inter barangay sports meet. We will soon add other sports programs. We also are partnering with Gardner College to have 100 college scholarships and 200 for Senior High. We also participated in Kyusiklaban and it has expanded city wide, thank you to QC Mayor Joy Belmonte for that. We also have seasonal events, Passport on Wheels and government services, plus several barangay and SK council events. This sets 400 thousand people helped in 3 years, this makes sure that it directly affects you, from your taxes. Each of them to make you feel better, to make sure the city has a bright future with more efficient facilities. Education remains a top priority which is why we built several buildings for elementary and high schools in the district. We also had the rehabilitation of bridges, roads, to help in traffic and floods in our part of the city. We also have on going infrastructure developments in various barangays, improving accessibility for social services. We also aligned it with the QC flood control program, and also soon, our barangays will have Solar Energy. There will be more construction of Barangay Halls, Public Library, and Sports Facilities. This includes Culiat Bridge, Pasong Tamo, West Riverside Pumping Stations too. We want District 1 to be done fast, no drama, effective and have programs that directly serve our people. They shouldn't wait, it has to be resolved now without prejudice. I will not stop, we are data driven and it will change lives. We still have so much to do, but I promise to continue these in District 1. Seeing you all here, I am overwhelmed. Thank you for putting your trust in me. Thank you!"

An emotional Arjo Atayde during his speech

There is flooding in parts of his district and appropriation of funds for the G Araneta Avenue detention basin, Talayan Flood Interceptor, he also took measures for a more sustainable solution for it. He took notice of needed infrastructure upgrades and sensible urban planning. He also sought stricter enforcement of environmental laws in his district. As of date, he has over 46 republic acts, 65 house bills co-authored, 174 House Bills filed as Principal Author and 78 resolutions passed in these past 3 years. He also has worked with several government agencies to implement sustainable livelihood programs, for those displaced workers, scholarships for his constituents, and those who are in crisis. He also took initiatives for free livelihood programs and created food carts to benefit MSME's. He also has taken action on matters that involve the youth, and did it with industry help with music, sports programs and various events for the community.

This is just his first term, and with the changes and initiatives he's set in his side of the world, it would be remarkable to see him transform his district to a better one with the laws passed with his Aksyon Agad principles set. I envy you folks in the 1st District. You've got Juan Carlos "Arjo" Atayde by your side!

Spend Time with Family and Watch "BUFFALO KIDS"

Tuesday, February 11, 2025

Just got off the cinemas after watching this new animated movie called "BUFFALO KIDS". The name itself made me happy because of its affinity with cows, so I'd like to thank the good people from Nathan Studios for brining this into the country. I knew it was special because they always bring something different when it comes to movies.

This Valentine's season surely wouldn't be just for pairs, but for the whole family. So if you are looking for an activity this week, this family film will surely touch your hearts. First off, it's a journey so you get to feel that adventure right from the start. The characters are also interesting because they are immigrants from Ireland who went to America in hopes of reuniting with their Uncle Niall. When they didn't get to see him after they went down the ship, they journeyed far and beyond to find him, and that's where they found Nick. Nick is special, a paraplegic, so he couldn't talk or walk, but the two (Tom and Mary) treated him as a friend and equal. This would teach kids to do the same, unadulterated kindness, something that should be taught early on. He's also an orphan, but in the movie, he gets to be a hero (or is he?) just like anybody else.

Kids would also love a glimpse of the great outdoors, the western scape, some historic element of the gold rush, the original settlers (Indians). They will also teach kids not to judge just because of looks, race, skin color or features.

KUMAGCOW loves this not just because it's a really nice film, but because of the COW/BUFFALO element. So make sure you plan your week with the kids, take them to cinemas this coming February 12 to see BUFFALO KIDS! Because if I enjoyed it, they will too!

TOPAKK: An Intense Action Masterpiece with ARJO ATAYDE and JULIA MONTES for MMFF 2024

Tuesday, December 24, 2024

Watching TOPAKK on the silver screen was the best decision I've ever made this Metro Manila Film Fest 2024 season.

Why you'd ask? Simple, it wouldn't feel the same if I'd watch this simply on digital or streaming platforms. It gives a different vibe, of almost 2 hours of intense, violent, brutal, savage, rough and aggressive scenes all put together by Director Richard Somes, same guy who brought you OTJ, Ekis, and more eccentric action films in Philippine cinema. You've got that a bit expected yeah, but the topic, intimacy of describing PTSD in a structured military environment and how people suffer all throughout their life is something else to think and talk about... this was a venue to know more about it and they've managed to put that in the story.

Arjo Atayde, Julia Montes, Sid Lucero in one film concept wise is quite crazy (and is not the sole reason why this is called TOPAKK). Their stellar performances in different projects alone is something that would inspire an "actors actor". While Arjo carries good looks, this movie gives him major rawness. The closeups filled with his small freckles on screen was noticed, and absolutely lovely to see aesthetically since this is a bit dark, dingy and gloomy especially on the last scenes at the steel warehouse. I would gladly compare his role to John Wick, but again, very raw and local. You could see how he showcases his struggles, which I'd bet be better with a dog (for maybe a sequel). His acting chops are unquestionable, being Best Lead Actor at ContentAsia Awards was evident. He evolves wherever he gets into a role, and you'll admire his tenacity to live, not just for himself but for others.

Julia Montes is an action star. Gone are the crying drama princess roles she's been in the past years, because she is as intense as anybody on that set. Her knack for conversations complemented each and every single time she'd want to take revenge, throw a punch, smash someone's f4ce on the metal platforms just to make sure people felt her intensity to love them dearly. She definitely did not shortchange with the physical requirements that this role entailed or required, and you'll root for her. She's got a cause (that involves Kokoy De Santos) and it makes her hunger for changing her life inevitable. With the help of Arjo's character, their once not so connected lives begin to complement each other. You'll know why when you watch TOPAKK.

Here's what happened at the red carpet premiere!

You'll see some of the roles may have been brief, but don't be mistaken, all of these are essential. Congratulations also to stars Enchong Dee, Kokoy De Santos, and the ensemble cast (especially the bad guys) who performed well. You'll love this so much for the cast, the story line and it's cause.

This has had lots of rave reviews abroad, bringing this home was serendipitous, had a lot of promise, and they'll give you what you asked for. This is super apt for this year's Metro Manila Film Festival, it gives us viewers the OPTIONS we deserve. The R18 rating I think is because of the violence and gore, but the R16 version won't feel like it ain't enough. This also stars Vin Abrenica, Cholo Barretto, Bernard Palanca, Ms. Maureen Mauricio, so there's more to the story.

If you miss action movies, want to see your favorite actors do different things from the usual, you need to see TOPAKK. This and other entries in the MMFF 2024 are so good, but you definitely should have this on your list because you'll have your action thirst be extinguished, you get to feel you're part of it and feel tired because you've been in the middle of the scenes all along. Congratulations to Nathan Studios, Sir Art, Ms. Sylvia, Gela, Ria, and Arjo for such an amazing piece. Here's hoping they get a nod come awards night because from the looks of it, they do deserve it!

Though there might be some flaws in effects and story, forgivable. They still got the message across and sustained it's intensity all throughout the film. For Arjo, Julia Montes, and the sheer brutality this presents, it made me still choose this film to have 4 out of 5 Cows. 🐮🐮🐮🐮

PS. That float you had during the parade was amazing!
