JIGGY MANICAD Joins Illustrious Line of TV5 Anchors in FRONTLINE PILIPINAS

Saturday, January 06, 2024

It looks like evening news is going to be a LOT interesting as one distinguished broadcast journalist joins the illustrious line of TV5 anchors in FRONTLINE PILIPINAS. He's Jiggy Manicad, and he's back to bring new flavor to prime time news this side of the world. He joins Cheryl Cosim and Julius Babao and a throng of distinguished journalists to bring you fresh news and what happened in the country the whole day.

Mr. Manicad went through a whole hiatus to care for his family, his kids, deciding to watch them grow. He also tried to run for Senator in 2019 where he wanted to bring agricultural and natural disaster reforms. It was just not in his favor, and admits he learned a lot from. Going back to the industry he's passionate about was a calling, he intently prayed to decide on it when management got in touch.

He says "I have been in broadcast and journalism for 20 years, but I feel politics is not for me, I will concentrate on more honest and transparent work. I wouldn't want that for my soul, but I have no regrets, I learned a lot from that."

He adds "I was doing my job good, and I enjoyed it. When I was still active I always got ahead of the pack because it was a habit. Now the landscape is different and I can make stories ahead of time, I check world news and know my angles right away. On my part, I have never thought of the resignation as doing nothing, I was still myself but have the Lord tell me what I don't have, I am entering a new home with him involved, and I'm happy to do that. Usually when you get old that's when you turn to him, but I want to communicate with him even when I was young. He will give you everything when you are in the right path. I went through hard times and knew him when I was doing nothing and learned to share it even more. During the pandemic we had so many things but it was still him that we called for. It was a blessing and now that I'm in TV5, I hope to be able to do the stories that I want to do, the non traditional ones, even if it is at the end of the show, it will have impact and still be interesting. I hope we could do that in the show as I become part of FRONTLINE. Journalism is different, because as it is, we source credible information and the truth from it and deliver that when it is available."

Here's our video coverage and interview during an intimate presser yesterday, the conversation was certainly interesting because we could ask anything we wanted including the change of networks.

This Monday will be his first day in FRONTLINE PILIPINAS and he's starting with stories related to the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila. He's a little nervous, but he's planning to do as little preparation as possible because he's more of a crammer and can do more. Sure, he's got a serious side but he's got lots of personality to bring in the show. He promises to keep it light, concise, understandable and do it in less time for the viewers. He's going to be your buddy in the studio and out in the field every night at 6:30PM. You may check their social channels for more information about his new journey, only on the Kapatid Network, TV5!

New People, New Programs at Radyo5

Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Looks like programming will become a little different this 2023 for Radyo5 92.3FM as they launch new shows and put some of the top broadcasters in the industry on their frequency. True to their tagline of "Ito na ang totoong tunog ng Serbisyo Publiko!" much of the changes they'll be having is the addition of public service centric shows that would cater to different folks which would make sense once you hear their names.

I've been listening to Dr. Love aka Brother Jun Banaag in his previous radio station. Let's just say he starts his program in the evening up to the wee hours of the morning so you have someone to accompany you do your work. He gets the 10 to 12am slot every Friday and talks more about family life, relationships and deep faith hence his moniker Dr. Love. Aside from that, his voice is of legends and very deep which I think is really cool to hear.

Aside from him, the new show Bangon Bayan will be ON on weekdays 4 to 6am hosted by Mon Gualvez. If you miss Cheryl Cosim, she's in the late afternoon show Sagot Kita! which will be from 4 to 5pm to tackle current events and public service. Your favorite FM DJ Laila Chikador on the other hand will be hosting Good Vibes together with financial guru Stanley Chi. This will be on prime time at 6:30 to 8pm. For a bit more help for the Filipino people, there's Pinoy Konek hosted by LGBTQIA stalwart Danton Remoto which will be doing legal, OFW affairs and public service talk from 9 to 10pm.

This has been a welcome addition to the RADYO5 hit shows of Ted Failon and DJ ChaCha, the entertainment show Cristy Ferminute hosted by Cristy Fermin  and also Wanted sa Radyo with your idol Sen. Raffy Tulfo. This is just the start of the year and there's a lot to look forward to on RADYO5, make sure you follow them on their social channels as they update you with even more changes in the coming days.

Congratulations Radyo5!

New TV5 News Program Frontline Pilipinas Starts October 5th

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Luchi Cruz Valdez, Raffy Tulfo and Cheryl Cosim will be on the frontlines of news on TV5. They are starting a new show named Frontline Pilipinas which is pretty much going to be their primetime news show starting on October 5th.

Got the chance to talk to them this afternoon and I picked up a few things on how they want to deliver news. Ms Cheryl Cosym, Raffy Tulfo and their head honcho Luchi Cruz Valdez shared how this will all happen on the show.

Raffy Tulfo says “You have to make sure those listening to you are understanding news, not just read off the prompter. It’s what we will bring to the table on Frontline Pilipinas. Our 20 years plus experience makes us confident, we have confidence because we have credibility. I get involved with my brothers problems sometimes so I just keep quiet, my credibility has not been tarnished, we are different people and the public sees that in the past. It’s why we have millions of subscribers on YouTube. Maybe the fact that we are in different channels also helped. The money that we earn on YouTube, well a big chunk of it goes to the public service. I have some to myself but most of it goes to them and my team. Credibility is important and viewers and complainants know that. I do legit help so we have tons of people go to our action center. Since the start of the pandemic, I see the problems especially with the poor. We look at what our news impact their lives, that experience with them should also be a part of the news we deliver. We have experience and knowledge, we have an idea what to use to present news to the taste of our viewers. I will make sure the 15 million subscribers that I have will also be watching Frontline Pilipinas.”

Luchi adds “Times are changing. Since the beginning we understand what we need to bring in the news has already been picked, verified, before bringing it to the people. We know essential information does not have to be negative, but important. We have so many questions, answering them is another when bringing in news. Raffy and Cheryl has done so much in the industry, we are frontliners and we will be your Kasangga, together with Ed Lingao, Lourd De Veyra, and our team. We don’t censor news, we pick what is important for the greater public. Rumors or political fervor is not a priority. We talk about it, we follow stories, take out hearsay and not put in those which have no soundbites. We won’t sensationalize them. Hopefully airing errors would not happen at all, but we don’t hesitate to apologize and do corrections if needed. There are a lot of fake news around, we would rather be late and true than just picking up a scoop. In the news industry, you can only have small creative space, we can’t make it flowery, if it is boring, we present it as is. The difference is how we put it together in our organization. That’s how we are different, shorter because we deliver what you need to know. We are riding on the wave of Raffy’s popularity online and Cheryl in doing Alagang Kapatid. We have a lot of news we need to cover even if we don’t want it, that’s our job, if we has a choice we wouldn’t go to hospitals but this is what we do, this is our vocation and commitment.”

Ms. Cheryl adds “We have public service in our heart, Raffy and I are very much involved with that. We won’t have any “sapawan” and I have been in the station for 10 years, but not to the point of calling out, we have a very calm news room here on TV5. We were not restricted to go out to deliver news, we see it on the streets, the news, online, every detail of it is intense and more important to make sense of the moment. We are here to make them understand the content we present on the frontline. We are not just news readers, they feed us what happens during the day and ask updates, ask how we can help and build relationships with resources. They respect our involvement because it is our faces in the news anyway."

On October 5, TV5 and OnePH will be telling you stories from Studios and where it happens on the frontline. They will of course observe proper health decorum, so they can still give you fresh news.

Congratulations!
