Ken Chan Excited for His First Concert

Sunday, August 14, 2016

I have always been so proud of Ken Chan's accomplishments even before he did the remarkable Destiny Rose on GMA. He was a teen during the German Moreno show Walang Tulugan where he showcased his talents in hosting and singing and that's probably where people have started noticing him. His undeniable charm, good looks was a sure fire way to begin an illustrious career in showbiz and when the landmark role of Destiny Rose came, there was no turning back. Destiny Rose was a trans woman from a very conservative family and it was something that has never been done on Philippine television. It has paved the way for the young man to be seen with a larger audience and be loved by the masses as the show hit the airwaves a few months back. The show may have ended but whenever people see Ken Chan, they still see Destiny Rose in him so they're in for a treat this August 19. He's going to have his own concert at Zirkoh at Tomas Morato in Quezon City entitled "My Destiny: Ken Chan Live in Concert" produced under Firestarters, a new outfit who believes Ken is a very talented singer and people should see him soon.

I always tell friends and family that I personally know this guy and how we've been able to see him develop to who he is today. I'm so proud Ken is accomplishing his dreams and people are helping him achieve it as he's a very nice guy. Fact is, he's just starting and he knows he owes it to everyone who's supported him all these years. We sat down with him a few weeks ago, you'll be excited about what he prepared for you!

My Destiny: Ken Chan Live In Concert again is happening this August 19. For tickets you may call or text 09162306146 or (02) 3745769.

You may also email firestartersmanila@gmail.com if you want to reserve tickets for the show. This is for his fans and those who would love music in general. Confirmed guests include Fabio Ide, Ms. Manilyn Reynes, Jeric Gonzales, Divine, Tammy Brown and RJ Agustin. You'll love the show, you'll laugh, and who knows, you might see Destiny Rose in the audience when you watch the show! Congratulations Ken! We can't wait to see you on stage!

Miggs Cuaderno and Ken Chan for GMA's Destiny Rose

Thursday, October 01, 2015

I didn't get to attend the grand press conference of Destiny Rose when it happened in GMA 7, but I sure was glad we got to sit down and interview them over lunch last week. Two stars, no other than recent FAMAS winner Miggs Cuaderno and talented singer, host and actor buddy Ken Chan. The story is different, not your ordinary gay role - and it starts when Joey Flores Vergara had to endure confusion, the brute of his father, the community when he finds out early on how he knows that she's a woman trapped in a man's body. The psyche was entertainingly told in the story and how he finds out he wasn't really meant to be a General in the army as his father hoped. He had the happiness, the love and contentment when he's performing on stage, being who he thinks he is in the first place.

Miggs mentioned he didn't have a hard time doing the young Joey's role because he just concentrated on doing the job and he's got a knack for following instructions to a T. After a few indie films, especially Asintado which won him the Best Child Performer award, as young as he might look right now, he already knows what he's doing. He's very smart and you would mistake him for an even older teenager when he talks to people. He couldn't believe he won an award in FAMAS since it was just something they used to watch on TV. Here's the interview we did during that afternoon.

His dream? To be in the Oscars. We could see he's really got potential and who knows, we might just see that in the near future.

Ken Chan has been in the industry for quite a number of years, but has yet to be given a break by GMA. He was always optimistic, played his cards of singing and getting an album these past few years. Now that he's already done support roles, pairings, and several acting pieces in movies and TV, he's absolutely ready to take on the life of Joey Flores Vergara, as she blooms to be Destiny Rose. She's a transwoman and you can just imagine the work put into this project on how to turn the hearthrob into a woman.

He auditioned for this role, a lot of them actually did in GMA's stable. Though what sets Ken apart is his keen to do this gig no matter what it takes. The opportunity also to be a lead star was just too important to pass and he's grabbing it now. I believe that it's really his time, and if it means he's going to have to act like a woman in this show, he can do it. I'm a little proud to see what he has become and he truly deserves this. Honestly, I feel the story is fantastic and absolutely smashing.

Here's a short interview we did with Ken.

Congratulations Ken and I hope this is just the start of more projects in the pipeline. You've done the legwork and I hope this bears fruit as you take on more lead roles in the future.

Destiny Rose Continues To Bloom at GMA Afternoon Prime

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Have you seen the latest episode of Destiny Rose? If not, then you are missing a lot. This story about a trans woman has already taken off beginning with his childhood. The pains of growing up in a very strict environment and a not so accepting Father Joselito Vergara Sr. played by Joko Diaz might be already taking strong effect on his psyche. Now that they're a bit older, the things about Ken Chan's role as Destiny Rose is slowly blooming. His love interest, Gabriele Antonioni played by Fabio Ide is surely going to turn love struck with her and in great fashion (hopefully to come very soon). This will grow the irk of Jasmine Flores played by Katrina Halili, and the envy is going become seriously disturbing as the days become near for that to happen.

They haven't really learned about Destiny Rose's persona yet and that'll be a little nervous to find out in the next few days. Ken Chan definitely takes this role seriously and with the events taking place, there are a lot of people ask how he was able to pull off being that gorgeously transformed and still be good looking like that (as seen on stills). Although, the most awaited part would still be how she's going to be unveiled as Destiny Rose (in future episodes).

If you've seen his latest one yesterday, the story of his first heartbreak was just told and people on Twitter went crazy when Vince (played by hunky Jeric Gonzales) instead of making his dream come true, actually introduced his girl friend leaving Joey's heart broken. I could see Ken Chan portrayed that great, felt his pain, a mark of a very remarkable actor. Now, he doesn't mind how his Mom (played by Manilyn Reynes) would look at it now.. and perhaps take care of Joey while he recovers from this event next week. Somehow, you'll learn something real good when things like that happen. You'll become a stronger person in the long run because you've experienced things like these earlier. Still, it looks like he's going to believe in love and perhaps once Fabio Ide comes into the picture it'll be a different story.

Soon you'll see the characters of Jackie Lou Blanco who plays Dahlia Flores, Sheena Halili as April Rose Vergara, JC Tiuseco as Lance, Ken Alfonso as Aris, Irma Adlawan as Bethilda, Michael De Mesa as Rosauro Armani Vitto, and more episodes with the great Migs Cuaderno as the Young Joey, Angel Aviles as Young April, Milkcah Wynne Nacion as the young Jasmine, plus Andrea Torres, Mike Tan and Yasmien Kurdi as they'll play a cameo role real soon as the lead star of Destiny Rose's novel called "Rainbow after the rain".

So make sure you watch Destiny Rose with me during GMA's Afternoon Prime. Ken Chan has definitely made waves, made people look at gender equality a different way after watching Destiny Rose on TV. I hope you learn a thing or two too! Follow their social media channels if you're into it, at www.facebook.com/GMADestinyRose, or www.twitter.com/GMADestinyRose.
