Cignal Entertainment Does Showbiz Caravan: A Proper Thanksgiving and for Charity

Wednesday, November 23, 2022

Had a wonderful time talking to stars from Cignal/TV5 shows Sing Galing Kids, Sing Galing, Suntok Sa Buwan, Oh My Korona, Kalye Kweens, Now Zending, Reelverse and several other programs from the Kapatid network. They've been doing a showbiz caravan visiting several spots in Mega Manila to bring entertainment and thank everyone who supported their shows. Some of them are already ending, so it's an apt thing to do for those who contributed to their success. We talked to Zendee, Marimar, Ms. K Brosas, Jessy Salvador, Paulo Angeles and Pooh who also had a mall show later that day for the same purpose.

We talked about a lot of things including their experience about being on the show and working with other actors during the locked in taping and the pandemic. It's a pretty neat sight to get to know how they survived some of the most difficult circumstances like when Sing Galing was airing and Zendee had COVID-19. She was adamant to finish her work despite difficulty breathing, I was at awe on how she was able to do that. Here's our interview with her and Marimar that afternoon.

The Showbiz Caravan was pretty well received over at Starmall in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. They were there from November 17 to 19 to the delight of mall goers, shoppers and fans of the shows. They also did a portion where they get to sing with the stars and prizes went to a charity for the benefit of Kids of National Children’s Hospital and to a baby named Aaron who is a 7-year-old patient with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. That was certainly touching to see.

Ms. K Brosas touched on a topic about Ms. Kris Aquino and how she was able to give her advise about accepting praises, and thanks as a celebrity. That part really made sense, and touching how their friendship has lasted all throughout these years.

Jessy Salvador (Maja Salvador's sister) talked lengthily about their show Oh My Korona which she says had her comedy acting chops tested during the whole show. She was glad Pooh was instrumental in making her better in the genre and hope she'll get to do drama shows in the future. Pooh on the other hand shared his experiences on working with his co-actors and how blessed he was despite the hardships of the pandemic, the lack of work, and how he was still blessed. Listen in!

Then on the other side of the venue, we got to talk to Paulo Angeles. Such a fine gentleman. Good looking, but never thought of himself as a matinee idol material. He often was playing a playful lad, partnered with different love interests, but wants a more dramatic role next time. Here's what we talked about during the press conference:

The finale episodes of Oh My Korona will air on November 26 while the grand finals of Sing Galing Kids and regulars will air on December 3 and 10 respectively. The Suntok Sa Buwan ending on the other hand will air on December 8th, while Kalye Kweens will end on Christmas eve. You can watch it on the date or re-runs if you use the Cignal Play app,. it's actually free so no need to burden yourself watching the shows especially for PH subscribers. Thank you for the opportunity to talk with you all! You've done good.

Brace for A Different Morning Show: Ethel Booba and K Brosas for LAKWATSIKA

Thursday, April 07, 2022

Looks like the morning show time slot is going in for a big surprise as Cignal Entertainment and Red Crane Studios launch this one of a kind program called LAKWATSIKA. This is going to be hosted by funny comediennes and talented singers Ethel Booba and K Brosas.

Just hearing their names tell me this is going to be a heck of an adventure, and that's not just the premise of the show because unlike any other morning shows, this includes traveling, funny antics that happens without scripts and talking to people, just like you and me.

In their first episode, they have traveled to Cauayan in Masbate. With picturesque shorelines, flora and fauna, they found a new destination for local and international tourists... places that are seldom visited and are just waiting to be discovered (of which this is what they're planning to do in the next ones). This is the same reason why they partnered with the Department of Tourism so they can take you to see places, every small city, town, a roadside stop as they promise it will be a little unplanned in each episode.

Not only  that, they'll be tasting the exotic and unique dishes... tell the story of the people they visit which is going to be very exciting to see on television. After a tiring talk and travel, they're also going to undergo several challenges in a day just to make sure they're on top of their toes, plus they'll be giving time to get to know townsfolk, which Ethel and K told us was so touching because they've never felt so welcome til they experienced it first hand in Masbate.

They also have digital hosts Queenay and Marimar Tua who will tell the stories for the digital audience because this will also be shown in TV5 and Cignal's platforms as well.

Here's our video coverage of the presscon, so please, enjoy!

I love how K Brosas commented about their friendship, she didn't sugarcoat anything and told us while they were not that close (while still friends), they're getting to know more about each other now especially because they bond over parenting (Ethel gave birth recently and they talk about kids now). If you're up to it, go watch the show on April 18 at 11am. This will be shown everyday so you've got lots of time to watch it. This will surely be fun!

Bigger, Better and More Fun in SING GALING!

Friday, July 16, 2021

Just got off the Sing Galing Mediacon (when I was writing this article) and it was fun to see not just the  hosts but the actual contestants who made it far in this contest. Ultimately, it was not just plain singing that got them there, but passion, the calling to entertain people and the hunger to pursue their dreams each time they sing. Regelyn Fernandez, Kim Macaraig, Yuki Takahashi, Niko Badayos, Jean Jordan had their own individual stories to tell, one thing for sure was their lives have changed. Aside from the prizes they won from the show, they also got recognized in their own communities plus supportive fans from the show. Aside from that, ratings have been good so far and honestly, I like the format of it. It works!

During the presscon, Zendee Tenerife shared her struggles with her health while the show was actually starting... she says "I had COVID during the first week of Sing Galing, I got over that even if I was having a hard time to host and sing. Nobody noticed and now I'm better. I'm really looking forward to talk and sing for fans online, my journey with Sing Galing has been very good so far and I can't wait to see more people join the show, and perhaps soon, to get and see the hosts of the show since we're still under quarantine."

Rey Valera on the other hand had a say with how this compares with the It's Showtime and says "There are two things that I can say this is different form my other shows. This is light, and there's a random factor. You may be good at singing but if you don't know the song, you'll probably lose because of the choices the randomizer makes. I don't sing my songs anymore because I feel like it's work when I'm trying to relax. I also use a guitar for production value. I think it's better! I'm a fan of K Brosas, she's a survivor, and she knows how to survive, I give great value to people who stay in this profession and maintain their careers til now. I have managed to do that because of the songs I made, it connected me to different generations, even if my fans already passed on, I still have a few that support me because I realize, I can still enjoy the moment because of the people that believe in me. I think about what to share especially in Singaling, if I could only do it in music and in life. They don't have to go through the same things that I have, but this is good. I look at them not as contestants, they equally are entertainers and not just here because they can belt out songs."

OPM Icon Jessa Zaragoza was asked about her doing a number on the show and what she tends to sing during off time to relax with videoke, she says "Of course I still sing my songs, I also sing covers but I tend to usually sing the light ones because it's time to relax. "

Ronnie Liang sang a few lines of Rey Valera's songs and said "I usually sing ballads, I am glad to have been able to work with Rey Valera because I often sing his songs. It's hard to tape several episodes and sing, and perform  the whole day. You don't know if you can maintain the energy, thank God we are able to deliver and stay safe during the few weeks we had to do this for the show. We get really encouraged as we get good feedback from the show, also see people that watch it. It's worth the effort, investment, time, we fulfilled our mission to give happiness and entertain a lot of people during this time." It was nice for him to share some of his experiences in taping the show, I've been to their set and it's very safe there because as soon as you reach the entrance, they ask you to use PPE's, masks, and make sure you follow protocols inside the studio.

K Brosas also told us about the difference of the show versus Sing Galing 2021. She says "TNT is a singing contest but Sing Galing is Videoke, it's not really a priority of sorts. You see the personality, you can do showmanship. It's chosen by the machine. Rey Valera's songs til now are relatable, Singaling made it trend and it blew up overnight on my Twitter account when I told people about the back story of these songs. It was about LGBT relationships, it was just now that people knew about it. Crazy how it felt after hearing about how the iconic songs were formed no?"

Now that there's more contestants bringing their A game and a lot more others who will join the show, there's nowhere to go but up! Happy birthday to Ms. K Brosas who was so fun during this interview, and I hope that they'll have a few more years to discover talented Filipinos and even greater entertainers. It's going to be heck of a lot of fun doing that in Sing Galing, and by the looks of it, they're not doing any disservice to the original show that was successful during its hey days. Sing Galing shows  on TV5's Todo Max Primetime block on weekdays. Thank you to Cornerstone who invited us to this event!
