New GMA Afternoon Prime Show SHINING INHERITANCE Premieres September 9

Wednesday, September 04, 2024

Every time I get invited to a GMA press conference, I know it's going to be BIG.

This goes the same with this new series called "SHINING INHERITANCE", a Philippine adaptation of a KDrama series entitled "Brilliant Legacy" shown around 2009.

Kate Valdez is going to be leading this show together with the iconic Ms. Coney Reyes. The main antagonist is going to be Kyline Alcantara who's previously worked with Kate in an opposite role. They will be together with Paul Salas, Michael Sager, Roxie Smith, the vampiric Wendell Ramos, Ms. Glydel Mercado, Aubrey Miles, Gio Alvarez, Dave Bornea, Jamir Zabarte, Seth Dela Cruz, and very funny newcomer Charuth (who also hosted the event).

Kate says "I already worked with her (Kyline) in Black Lipstick and I'm very excited to work with her because I want her to make life hard with my character. I'm thankful she's the Joanna to my Ynna. I was able to create the persona of my character because she breathed life with hers. People think she's serious all the time but no, she's very makulit in real life."

Kyline replied "This is our moment, this is it Kate! Like what she said, we've worked together in Black Lipstick where she played the contrabida. But now, this is my turn to make her character's life miserable. I also got to create my character's persona because of her. Kate is a thinking actress. She gives emotions on scenes that you can feed off of. I know the scenes are difficult but if you have someone like her who is generous, you can make the scenes easy because of her and the rest of the cast who are equally good."

The trailer alone looks painful when Kyline smothered Kate's face on the ground. In the series, there will be a lot of this and more as they promised... plus some unforgettable ones from Ms. Coney Reyes.

She says "First of all, like the character I'm really a grandma. It hits home, and also having dementia, it's a challenge and it is hard to portray Dela Costa. It's my 50th year in show business, I started in May of 1974. My first drama was here in GMA, it was around 1981 after I gave birth to my first child. After the noontime show, I was lucky to be next in a drama. When I found out this was in the same slot, it was a welcome thing for me. Lord definitely has a reason why he put me here. It doesn't matter for me to be here or in prime time. It is exciting for me to see how it is again in the afternoon prime. Many of my followers are mothers, housewives, grandmas, same as my age. I am working with Gen Z actors here, it's a blessing from God to be working alongside the Gen Z generation and a different set of audience. God gave me different shows with a different set of actors and I think a new set of audience from previous shows will appreciate that. I believe there's a purpose, to use what he gave me and share it."

Shining Inheritance will premiere on September 9. Make sure you watch the show because it's going to be in a Filipino perspective. This is going to be a lot different than the KDrama execution according to the director.

KATE VALDEZ Gets Inspired Working with Experienced Actors

Friday, December 10, 2021

Kapuso Kate Valdez has done so many shows already. Aside from iconic ones like Destiny Rose, Onanay and Encantadia, she's currently in Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kwento. She shared us her dreams to work with Alden one day, and a couple more plans she bared as she signed again with GMA Network and GMA Artist Center.  Kate also said that she's so happy that she gets to work with the network's biggest actors, award winning ones and learn from them.

Kate says "Usually when I do VTR's I get really nervous, but when I stepped in GMA, I didn't feel anything like that, I felt right at home. I want to experience comedy next time I do a project, hopefully with Kuya Alden because I haven't had the chance to work with him. So far, I haven't had a comment that I'd be sad about, it was all encouragement. Somehow, it was me who always doubt myself, but so far, I've been blessed and happy that there are a lot of people who believe in me, they're the reason I exist now. With all the veteran actors that I worked with, it's always being humble that they teach me, that's what I do so I get to work more in GMA. I get inspired with experienced actors, and they are willing to guide us especially since I just started in the industry. I have work even during the pandemic, I thank GMA for that. I am still in stage when I doubt myself a bit, it's pressure, but now I think I have grown to a more matured actress, I have the courage to take on challenging roles and I am thankful for that. I am so grateful for GMA Network and our bosses, from giving so much amazing roles, they know I can do it and I have a lot of opportunities now that I have the chance to act. I am also blessed to be an inspiration to others."

Here's a video we made for our interview with her

Watch Kate Valdez on Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kwento and other shows she's planning to do in the future. She's raring to have these projects soon, and so thankful that GMA has given her these opportunities! Congratulations Kate!

The “Anak Ni Waray vs Anak Ni Biday” Presscon

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

Kate Valdez and Barbie Forteza has a gem in their hands. Their show Anak Ni Waray vs Anak Ni Biday have all the ingredients of a very special show. The remake based on a movie in the 60’s, and another one in the 80’s will be a fun, love stricken conflict. Their family will get involved and friendships will be broken.

The series will be flanked by some of PH’s greatest actresses like Snooky Serna, Dina Bonnevie, Jean Saburit, Teresa Loyzaga, Faith Da Silva, Tanya Montenegro, Ms. Celia Rodriguez, including Jay Manalo, Benedict Cua and Migo Adecer. Ginalyn and Katelyn will be battling over Migo’s character. Max Collins, Lovi Poe, Jason Abalos will be their young versions, so it looks pretty special. This is directed by Marc Sicat Dela Cruz. Golden CaƱedo also sang the theme song for this, she was well applauded during the presscon.

Direk says "I didn’t get to watch the old movie but I didn’t do it so it would have less bias, I believed in the creative group, so it has drama, of friendships, of lovers, of Mothers and a lot of comedy. "

Barbie says “We have bonded quite well, we’re friends now because of the time we spend together. Waray is feisty, but all out when her family is involved.”

Kate says “I am so grateful for the chance to work with industry veterans, for GMA to believe in me, I am so thankful! My version is very thrifty, I do it even now.”

Snooky Serna says “During the 80’s, I really felt it had sentimental value for me. Working with Dina, I felt we didn’t leave each other, we just picked up where we left off. Dina is so sweet, I love how she brings snacks unceremoniously. We are not in good terms with our characters.

Dina says “I asked to be Biday, my husband is an Ilocos Congressman and it’s so nice to do this and promote our province. I am excited and hope we have more shoots in Ilocos because we really had fun there. This time even if she is evil, she’s going to be a little nice on some times. It’s funny because we are good friends, it is different but being with her, I remember our Regal days so thank you to GMA for doing this.”

Celia Rodriguez says “I don’t have to tell them what to do, they’re all pros. They go to the set early, ready and know their lines. They ask if they need help and they do good, I’m sure they will be big stars very soon.

Migo adds “I agree, friendship first, love between friends can level up and it is easier to fix rather than doing it with strangers.Cocoy is different, he’s caught in life so he kinda gets to be with different women, because he’s afraid of commitment. I haven’t played a man being fought by two ladies, I take this is similar to Sahaya but the other way around. I feel how she feels now.”

Jay Manalo says “No, I haven’t felt I was being torn by women, I on the other hand did that. I believe in friendships, I would rather lose the love than break them like in this story.”

Teresa Loyzaga says “A contrabida is a contrabida is a contrabida. My name is different now, I guess people will be surprised as this is different from My Special Tatay. I take it as a complement when people react like that, I make an effort because I put myself in the character.”

Faith Da Silva says “I do wish to be lead sometimes but this is a role and I am happy for it. I think I get to portray interesting roles, I want to do Marimar in the future. Maybe that will happen.”

Jean says “For me any role is a good role, it’s how you tackle it, no matter how big or small it is I do it to make the show whole, not taking it in other ways. It’s work and passion.”

Anak Ni Waray vs Anak Ni Biday will show on January 27. This is on GMA’s Primetime slot.
