Lara Maigue and Gian Magdangal for "The Greatest Duets goes BROADWAY"

Tuesday, October 17, 2023

G
ian Magdangal and Lara Maigue have been certainly turning heads with their various covers on YouTube. My personal favorite is their version of "Last Night of the World" from popular musical Miss Saigon (which will be staged in Manila soon btw). Before they turned into lovers, they've been good friends and just went over that line with good intentions.

Lara is a very talented classical singer (a Soprano) educated from UP College of Music, and has gone in different places across the globe to promote Filipino talent and music. Gian on the other hand has been seen in the musical theater arena, always takes lead roles for obvious reasons. Both are actors, performers in live and on television shows too.  On November 10, they'll be performing at the Teatrino Promenade in Greenhills, San Juan City. They properly call the show "The Greatest Duets goes BROADWAY" which is produced by GL Productions (their own production company). The premise is to take you to best Broadway musicals through the songs they personally hand picked to do duets with. I wouldn't want to pre-empt, but as far as skills go, these two are practically the most equipped to do that on stage and this intimate venue. As Gian states in previous interviews, one reason he got hooked with Lara is her natural ability to mesmerize anyone who would hear her sing. He on the other hand has exceptional singing and acting prowess, which he puts to good use.

According to Lara "It's the first time we are working on something together and it is a way to showcase our love for Broadway. My dream used to be with a full orchestra in Carnegie Hall, while he wanted to do it in The Sphere in Las Vegas. The new generation should know how relevant music is now. The magic of collaborating, we love seeing that. We are fans of Broadway musicals, it was a natural idea to come up with and we want people to enjoy it with us."

Gian adds "The first challenge is to do both hats as producer and performer. The team, the business, it's just the start and we plan to do something big next year. We want to make work happen, a lot of give and take, it's a part of learning together. "

"Our goal is to package this as two individuals doing shows, and perhaps, just showcase all duets. There are going to be few solos but it's seamlessly going to be a duet too so you are not going to be umay from it."

Tickets are sold at Teatrino Promenade via 09175130909 or GL Productions via 09663890156 or Ticketworld.com.ph. Go get them now as I'm sure it'll run out fast!

Macoy Mendoza and Kiel Alo for "It Takes Two To Tango"

Friday, December 14, 2018

We headed to Teatrino Promenade and watched the concert of Macoy Mendoza and Kiel Alo, two young men who holds a lot of promise, who wants to share their gift to everyone. Honestly, I only heard about them today and yes, I am also hearing them sing for the first time. I was not expecting much, so I sat at the back and looked forward to hear from these two talented boys.

Macoy Mendoza and Kiel Alo went up on stage and got their  feet wet. Macoy says "I would like to thank everyone who made this possible, I know there were tons of hindrances and we had to be here despite the weather and huge traffic. I am thankful to have a venue to showcase our talent. We are also here to have fun, I hope we get to enjoy this evening of music."

Macoy is much of a fan of slow, melancholic music. Albeit kidding around in between songs, he kills those OPM soundtracks for lunch and snacks. Not flawless, but it takes a hint of raspiness, not common to people of his age.

In the second segment, Kiel Alo went a little sentimental in front of his Mom whom he refers to as his first FOREVER. I must say, he's a good crooner and he showed this with his covers of classics. He says "I have performed here quite a number of times, even slept and took showers in this place (he kids) but for me, the real measure of a beauty of a song is all in its lyrics."

In the show they were joined by the Teleserye songs queen Faith Cuneta, she showed us a thing or two about how it's done via song covers of Natalie Cole and a duet with Macoy later on in the show.

They were also supported by the one and only sentimental Jukebox Queen Imelda Papin who dished out several of her hit songs like "Isang Linggong Pagibig" (One Week Romance). She isn't even having a hard time hitting the notes. So beautiful. She says "I am just happy to be here to be one of the guest performers of Macoy, and Kiel, we all have to help new generation of singers so they can more stories, through immortalized songs." She also sang an unrehearsed number, which we all loved! She will have a concert on February 24 at the Araneta Coliseum to mark her 45th year in the business. She also teamed up with the queen, to sing Sometimes When We Touch, unbelievable.

Kiel also sang in between as he vows never to love again.

Orville the PGT diva also performed 3 of her hit skits, made us laugh towards the end of the concert.

They ended the concert with a promise to never feel and grow old.

Now this might be just a start, but as I said they do hold a lot of promise especially Kiel. Macoy was much of a poster boy, matinee idol type, with range that may or not change with puberty... so I guess they're both going to have bright futures ahead of them. You're going places, and you've got people especially your family behind you. That alone marks success, you both are working hard. It may take some time, but in a few years you'll find your own star, your own time to shine!

Congratulations on the concert! :)

Maricris Garcia for MAR1CR1S Concert On September 28

Thursday, September 13, 2018

How long is 11 years? If you think about it, that’s already a grown child. This time though it’s Maricris Garcia’s length of stay in the industry. The talented singer and actress isn’t holding back, she’s giving you one BIG concert at the Teatrino in Greenhills. She’s ready than ever and promises this time, she’ll be doing tons of music, entertaining numbers and a trip down memory lane with MAR1CR1S this 28th of September.

The show will be directed by Marc Lopez and will be more of a story telling format. She laments “I really want to share my journey, all from when I started my career, my life, my music influences. I really want to thank GMA Artist Center and a few other people who made this concert possible. I’ll also be releasing new music before Valentines day so stay tuned for that!

She adds "Since this is my journey it will start with how I got in the industry. This will include Regine Velasquez which is a no brainier, Nar Cabico, Mark Bautista whom all has been good to me. You will also see me as a solo artist, the LaDiva moments, but this will be very intimate and I will be talking to you because it is a small venue. My happiness is very shallow, being part of shows, iconic teleseryes, working with great singers, singing for Manny Pacquiao's fight, you will see them all. You will also see what I can do. I will be here with some important people and that's the surprise. I know I will be having this concert on the date of Ms.Sharon Cuneta but we have different things to offer as an artist. I picture this as a Barbra Streisand concert where it is intimate, it was also apt when we found the name of my concert, I figured this is why it was delayed a year, it was just perfect. Of course there will be a part where I will show LA Diva, that is 4 years of my life and I will include that in the show. Jona and I were not able to talk that much but we're good, Aicelle still keeps in touch and she always makes kamusta when she chats with me, I like that about them. I am ready, I hope this would further my career and hope things would materialize. We sat down and chose songs personally, I hope people would love this lineup. Hopefully I would be able to release songs before Valentine's day."

She mentions “I will be here, I am still here and I will still be singing.” She assures her fans of years worth of good music so get ready!

For ticket inquiries please call 09178508747 or Teatrino at 7412949 local 116. Tickets are priced Php 1,800 for VIP, Php 1,300 for orchestra and Php 800 for balcony.

Congratulations MAR1CR1S! You deserve all the blessings you are getting now!
