Discovering Pop Icons of this Generation: PoPinoy

New and fresh content coming out of TV5 just isn't a surprise anymore, quite expected. I'm saying that because as I logged in on a zoom press conference a few days ago, the stars from other networks have converged on TV5 to make a one of a kind talent show called PoPinoy aimed to discover even more world class Filipinos, put them on stage and make it their way to stardom!

What's more interesting is the composition of mentors and judges which includes her Majesty Maja Salvador, King of RnB Jay-R, Viral Dance Sensation DJ Loonyo and Theatre Siren Kayla Rivera. You see, the folks responsible for these are Cignal, production house Archangel Media and communications company TNT. They know this industry front and back, so this would be like a reality show wherein we'll be following the contestants journey into stardom. In a way, if you get attached, we wouldn't be surprised. I felt all their excitement as stars on the show shared stories.

Hosting the show is Paolo Ballesteros and Maine Mendoza. Maine says "I have seen in Eat Bulaga the sheer amount of talent that Filipinos have... and it needed a platform so they too can be seen. This show will be different, because it is different! We're also going to tell their stories which would make their journey more interesting. There's lots of things you should look forward to in PoPinoy!" 

Maja Salvador adds "I am excited to work with these talented people. They made ways to really put us together and requested that we need to do this... and now this happened. This was just something off that awards night when I signaled that I wanted to work with them, remember that? Me managing talents is not a one man team, I have a lot of people who help me and it really is not my decision alone. We're going to judge and train them more in this competition, which is a bit difficult because it's not just a singing competition, everyone is going to audition and we have to see their potential. That part is going to be challenging."

You'll be seeing how they will discover the biggest PPop sensation, you'll be seeing the girl and boy groups on a primer this coming June 6th at 8PM, while the first episode will happen on June 13, Sunday at 7PM on TV5 and a catch up episode on Colours and on Cignal at around 9:30pm the same day. UPGRADE's Anniversary Concert and Tour 2016

It looks like the fans of UPGRADE are in for a swell 2016 as these fresh teen boys celebrate their anniversary concert on November 5, 2016 at The Music Hall in Metrowalk in Ortigas. They've already gone way ahead of their viral "Trumpets Dance Challenge" videos (which have amassed 10 Million total views on social media by the way) and now has been enjoying guesting in several top rating shows like ABS-CBN's Gandang Gabi Vice, It’s Showtime and the morning show Umagang Kay Ganda.

All throughout 2016, they will also be doing concerts in Manila and nearby provinces showcasing their knack for dancing and singing too. Those little girls and boys of yours would love it. Aside from that, they'll have special guests like Edray Teodoro who did The Voice Kids Philippines Season 1 and a lot more surprise guests. The GILING AMBASSADORS will be doing concerts as well in the Bicol region at the famous Albay Astrodome, same place where Darren Espanto is doing his "The Total Performance Concert" this coming December 3, 2016 too. UPGRADE Signs with Star Music and One Music PH

Looks like the fans of UPGRADE are in for a treat. The up and coming boy band had their hopes up since last year and from the looks of it, there's no where else to go but up! They've been signed up with the prime label Star Music and the website that streams digital concerts and launches Filipino talents worldwide OneMusic.PH. One can only expect that in the near future, they won't be just solely doing covers, but their own songs too, OPM and all.

In a gathering of their stern fans and supporters at Congo Grille in Tomas Morato Quezon City, teen stars Upgrade performed some of their new singles. They have just concluded their 1st successful concert at the Music Museum last December. They also performed in the recent concert of Queen Mother Karla Estrada, appeared in several shows in various channels to promote the band so they could get acquainted with tweens, teens and millenials - their intended market. They're ready, they declare this is their time. They mentioned how much they've enjoyed last year as they've been able to somehow penetrate showbiz even a little. The album will have 5 songs, 3 danceable songs and 2 ballads. They're more into upbeat songs that are fast and relateable. They also have love songs included so don't be surprised if you get to see them swooning girls every now and then. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of their group yet and this is the first time that I've actually seen them in the flesh. I was actually expecting they're going to be just another run of the mill boy band, but judging from how passionate they are in dance, how spirited they are as singers and performers, I wouldn't be surprised they'll be going a long way in this industry. I could also see how they'll be individually become artists too as they have their own thing going. One of them actually writes songs, they're also matinee idol material and if ever things don't work out with this group they'd make great artists as is. Although from the looks of it, they'll stay together for a long time. They've also been through a lot, the strict auditions, trouble in creative processes, the fights in between, they're like ordinary people like you and me but they're still together. I hope this is  just the beginning and perhaps, they would be able to make their dreams come true as performers, as UPGRADE.
