Teddy's Bigger Burgers Now In The Philippines

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Aloha! Manila's food scene is blowing up! In a good way that is. The number 1 burger joint from Hawaii is in town and they're ready to hit the Phillippines by storm and do one thing in mind , bring Teddy's Bigger Burgers to Filipino burger lovers in Manila!

They are opening their doors at the posh Greenbelt 3 and got us to take a look at their best sellers. Though before that, we got to meet the founders and their crew from the US and also the Philippines. They came from different states too and have gone miles just to train the people here.

They took a minute or two to explain the menu to us but it's very easy to understand. The burgers are 100% pure beef- and use ground chuck, set as 5 ounces per patty, use seasonings, their secret spice, sauces and 3 choices of buns (potato, wheat or lettuce wrap).

WHAM! Burgers and Sausages Hits The Spot!

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Looks like someone's got a new look at the WHAM! Burgers and Sausages store in SM North Edsa's The Block which we visited a few days ago. Yes, they went head way to look a bit more modern, mid scale and a bit rustic. They went away and lost the old comic book theme they carried throughout the years and went with a more matured looking store.

The interior was a mix of black and white, a little shabby chic without the white ceramic homey elements. For me, it was a fresher look and a bit colder since there were metal counters too.

Mr. Tony Yap owner of Wham! says "We've been in the industry for almost a decade and our customers have always seen and associated us with comics which is a more "fastfood or kiddie" concept and we find nothing wrong with that. But now along with the trend with the new players now, we are targeting more mature audience because the fans of our joint are already grown up. Now, we have included imported and local brands of beer to our menu and revamped the menu and presentation of our dishes for the different market segment we're trying to target. As you can see, we only used earth tones and neutral colors in our store to go with the new theme. But still we will cater to every single one in the family because as we know Filipino's go out in groups especially in the malls.

Aside from the taste, we also went ahead and updated the bread. Through careful study we decided to introduce the brioche bread. This one is a little special though because we have used multigrain brioche bread which makes the bun a little sweeter nuttier and way better than the Kaiser bun that we used to serve on our burgers. The Filipinos now are more discerning and more demanding, our taste has improved a lot over the years that's why we're making our burgers better. The brioche has a little more following and it looks appealing too according to our customers. I believe that we have offered a great improvement on our products."

The KAPOW! Burger, a beef laden burger with a spicy kick! The jalapenos was love!

The new Multigrain Brioche Bun, made a little sweeter, nuttier and way better on this Wham! Burger!

I initially thought I was actually getting a smaller burger but they said that it's got the same kind (right amount/ratio of lean meat and fat), still 1/3 pound 100% beef patty measured one by one by hand but it's just a different kind of bread. The Kaiser buns used to be so big that it actually overlapped and made the burger looked bigger even though it's the same and now, it's just the right size. The patties will never never ever change. It's a thing that their loyal customers wanted and they listened to them. Isn't that smart?

Sausages

Now people think they didn't have sausages before in their menu but they actually do. It just didn't share the spotlight of other items because they served the ordinary ones that you can get off of other restaurants too. Now, they've included specialty sausages like these ones which are imported.

Take for example this thing they call U-Turn. It's 100% Swiss and it is my favorite on their menu. Sink in to your teeth and you'll feel the juiciness ooze out of the meat and you can taste the smokiness of it as it's real deal charcoal grilled. They even showed us their grill where they cook this. Delish!

They've got Wieners, Schublig with Cheese, Beer Sausage, Kielbasa on the new menu!

They now emphasized sausages too on their menu. It's even getting more orders now because they're giving a free hand in customizing combos that comes with it. Aside from the usual sides of onions and mayo, you can choose what other things you want to go with your sausages. The fries would make you feel full for sure and you can swap it with others. Of course everything goes well with beer!

Bavaria Premium Beer from Holland
They've sourced imported Bavaria from Holland and made it available for everybody that would love to feast in their stores so if you fancy the lovely imported sausages, you've got the best beverage that would also come with it bar none. If you are up to it, take a trip up north at SM's The Block and visit their store on the 4th floor. Don't ever forget to order the U-Turn which everyone loves because it's the good things that I want to to experience more. Get your hands on these burgers, sausages and bottles as soon as you hit the stores. Pretty soon, you'll see all the WHAM! Burgers and Sausages stores look like this one, so if you want to experience it early... you know where to catch them because IT HITS THE SPOT!

The Goodness That Is WHAM! Burgers

Saturday, May 10, 2014

This place is made of legends. You often hear Pak, Boom, Pow, Kablag every time an action sequence happens in comic strips. Here, you only hear one name and it's a lovely thing to see once it comes out of the kitchen and laid on your table. This is WHAM! Burgers.

The Interiors

It's a burger joint and the theme they were gunning for was whimsical and should stick to the comic strip thing they started with the name of the establishment.

The red, white and yellow palette presents a more energetic vibe in the restaurant. They also made it simple with a few tables and chairs to maximize the small space.

The place gets packed on lunch and dinner hours much like other establishments in the area. It is advisable to go before those hours.

The place also has a small second floor which can sit around 8 or 10 people and the comfort room. It's a little claustrophobic in some standards but they've added mirrors to give you a full view feel. That was a nice touch considering how small this is.

Service is good. They don't have that much lines because taking and serving your orders takes a short amount of time. You have the crew to thank for that. They also have a very simple menu so understanding what you're getting won't be a problem. Condiments are complete and if you prefer a refreshing glass of pineapple juice with your burger, they have that as well.

The Food

The good is in the burger and WHAM!'s got that already in the pocket. It's the same reason why they've expanded to several stores in Manila. Later on, they decided to close some of it and concentrate on those which have higher foot traffic which proved very beneficial to the company. I am a fan of their branch in Katipunan and have been going there every now and then. The SM Mall of Asia's branch is bigger and I think they have more choices now than the last time I saw their menu.

This is The Slider Trio. If you come to a point where you don't know what to order once you go inside the store, then this is definitely a thing to consider. Think about three burgers, best sellers Wham Burger, Wham Burger with Cheese, then Bacon Burger. It's served in bigger than the usual slider sizes giving you a sampler of everything that is to experience in WHAM!... it's a good deal pegged at Php 250 only and taste wise, you can't say the difference between getting the actual burger and these guys. Get this if you think you can't finish the bigger ones and get to taste them all in one order! :)

This is The Whammer. Imagine a think 1/3 pound patty topped with cheese, crispy bacon, crispy onion shards, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup and mustard. The crisp onion make this a good show of texture and makes it different from the ordinary burger. Pretty good.

To go with your favorite burgers, they have mean fries, wedges and onion rings that are so good. I specifically ordered more of the onion rings because theirs is sweet, something that I never knew would be found in this joint. Order this if you're in Mall of Asia.

This one's their Bronco Burger. They don't have MSG on their burgers and only use salt and pepper. You can really taste the beef content, like an 80% lean beef - 20% fat ratio is happening in every patty. I love the char grilled taste too and this one's like their barbecue burger with the exception of the crispy bacon below it. Pretty good in my standards. The serving is huge so it's all worth it.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Kapow. It does pack a punch. If you fancy mexican food and fond of things that are spicy then this is it. It tastes a lot like a burrito but of course it is a burger. The relish, the jalapeno peppers gives it a very spicy kick. I love this the most among their burgers, you should order this if you're a little adventurous because it'll definitely match your personality. Drink lots of water or soda right after as it's extremely hot!

You think it wouldn't work but it did. This is their Spaghetti Fries! It's got that oh so awesome Filipino sweet style spaghetti sauce that children would surely love plus shards of crispy fries topped with melted cheese. You think it's weird but no, it was something off the charts for some of the people I was with because they finished this in minutes. They didn't let go dipping each piece in the spaghetti sauce even if it was quite filling. If you want your kids to be busy and full in a short amount of time, please order one of this and they'll love it as much as I do. :)

The place is nice, prolly good for your man and kids. Their servings are big and the price point ain't bad at all. Try the Spaghetti Fries and Slider Trio for a more value for money treat. Else, you can get the major burger varieties that WHAM! has. It was worth the trip down south. Pretty good people, place and burgers. That is goodness... that is  WHAM! Burgers!
