SB19, Teenage and More Shine at Korean Cultural Center Event

Monday, December 09, 2019

It's been 70 years since Korea and the Philippines have started their diplomatic relations and yes, they are not about to let out this 2019 because the South Korean Embassy and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines just held the 2019 Guerilla K-Night (the 2nd edition) at the Shangrila Mall in Mandaluyong City. KCC's goal always has been to showcase the diverse culture of Korea in the Philippines and what better way to do that but by performances by Teenage, Mix'in, Yara, bands Kremesoda and Any Name's Okay. Plus,A-teens favorite Filipino boyband group SB19. My oh my, I have seen them all during my livestream of Rawr Awards a few weeks ago, I couldn't believe how a lot of people actually adore them. Seeing them perform live on stage today made me understand why :).

We also got to interview WE ARE THE NIGHT, a Korean electro pop band who came all the way to the Philippines just for this. This is also their last public event and they have been around the country visiting schools and malls. As a Kpop and Korenovela nation, they are now also introducing Korean Traditional Culture because they believe they have a lot to offer. They will also have booth activities inside the mall, which their Director Eugene Chol says K fans will surely enjoy!

Yara (5 ladies) did a dance number utilizing Kpop tunes, girl bands are evidently their favorites. They are a cover dance group, quite very lethal dancers. Mix'in on the other hand is a huge girl group who also does dance covers, they are all quite spirited dancers.

The boys called Teenage on the other hand bested a lot of nations and won against them in Korea, pretty and all, and super cool performers.

SB19 is just sick! I couldn't even hear myself from the screams of their fans that evening. They've been training for years, and it shows. So good. We also interviewed them after their number. They kinda lost power for the screen on stage, but they still peformed because the A-Tins were clamouring for it. Aw bless their heart!

Kremesoda played funk chill songs, pretty good bunch of young musicians.

It was awesome to discover Korean culture in one night. There will be more of these celebrations, because from the looks of it, it's super effective. If you were just there that afternoon, you're gonna love it too! Congrats KCC on having this successful event!

UNICEF Launches #ChildrenFirstStoryBooks with Anne Curtis

Friday, February 19, 2016

We were in SM North - The Block earlier to witness the launch of UNICEF's Children First Story Books. It's a project very close to the heart of Anne Curtis, one of UNICEF's Child Ambassador. The proceeds of the sales of these books will actually go to their fund and in turn help a lot of kids form the habit of reading which is crucial for today's generation to succeed. I'm a voracious reader, so this also hits close to home. I wouldn't want my kids to just spend all day in front of the TV, tablets or computers alone (hypothetically having kids I mean) so it would be a good thing for them to have something tangible every once in a while. I remember having these kinds of books in the past that taught kids not just to read, but learn a thing or two about good manners, courage, the concept of beauty, and the good values Filipinos should never lose.

Aside from Filipino children benefiting from reading, UNICEF takes care of the rights of the child. So if you're going to get the set, you're also helping them in efforts to eradicate poverty, educate more kids, and protect the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights that every child should have. Anne also adds that the books would also entail the kids to have a sense of imagination, and could learn a thing or two about life lessons. She also believes that kids should have emotional and moral support that they need in order to grow. They can also learn to express themselves better if they get the confidence they need (as she talks about her book Anita the Duckling Diva).

UNICEF will also have the illustrations on all these books displayed on SM The Block's 3rd level until the 25th of February. Some of the patrons also had the opportunity to have their books signed by the authors and illustrators earlier. You can visit www.unicef.ph to know more on how you can help and get these children's books too. It only costs a mere Php 500 for 6 of them, plus you can also help their cause. That's a good deal right there.
