SeaKing Launches Salmon Line on their 20th Year

Friday, November 08, 2019

I do frequently go to the supermarket and yes I have seen and used SeaKing several times when I pass by the frozen section. They are under Superb Catch Incorporated. This brand is familiar because they have been in the country for 20 years. I was so glad to have been invited in their luncheon this afternoon at Shangrila Makati. They had us sample their best sellers specifically the SeaKing Wild Alaskan Salmon!

Grilled Salmon Steak with Lemon Garlic Sauce

Baked Salmon Beurre Blanc

Salmon Skewers

Just look at it, it's Grilled Salmon Steak with lemon garlic sauce, plus Baked Salmon with Beurre Blanc and Salmon Skewers. Ahh these wonderful spread was prepared and presented to us by Shangrila's chefs and yes, this is part of their 20th Anniversary Celebration. We couldn't have had any better representation of their success with these in tow.

The new Salmon line includes the Keta Salmon Slab, Keta Salmon Belly, Pink Salmon Steak, Keta Salmon Chunks which they used to prepare the dishes earlier.

SeaKing's President Ms. Jennifer Uy says "We were the first deboner and drivers of SeaKing. We used to wonder how to use fax machines and copiers back in the days. From a small business, we got customers, supermarkets, huge deliveries. Some of us do finance and accounts. Anyway, we want to welcome you to our launch. Thank you to our partners from all over the world who flew in just for this occasion. May I quote disney, You need to have a dream to have a dream come true! We are now 20 years older, but we are very happy to have fulfilled it with your support. We are blessed to have family, to be very supportive, to food bloggers who have been posting recipes so I asked them to be here. I hope you enjoy this program we prepared for you so you get to know our history."

Surprise surprise, they had Sitti Navarro performing for us!

Now they are virtually everywhere and frozen Bangus and products are available in local and international supermarkets, groceries and retail stores, all deboned and shipped with quality in mind. Over 20 tons of products per day coming from their 5,000 hectare property (and an upcoming 20,000 hectare soon!) deliver only the best for their consumers. This is their family business and is run by their love for each other, that is inspiring, as they grow even more in the next few years. This is their promise, and their newest product the Wild Alaskan Salmon is a welcome addition.

It has Omega 3, and is the most nutritious source of protein the world. Congratulations SeaKing and Superb Catch, Inc. for launching your new line of Salmon and your anniversary. It's also nice to know your story, hope someone out there gets inspired how this humble family from Malabon now has their products around the world!

Diving Resort Trade Show 2016 Philippines

Friday, September 09, 2016

DRT on it's 2nd year, we promise and assure you that this program will be continued because the Philippines has a LOT to offer. - Kat De Castro, DOT Undersecretary

During the Diving Resort Trade Show 2016 they reiterated how much it's MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES and they talked about how suitable it is for the country to be a diving destination. It's a big industry.

Director Verba Buensoceso of DOT says "We brought this here to position the country as a hub for diving and business. Yes, there is a B2B component that will run in 3 days and this is something that we would want to catalyze. Two of the 15 best diving sites are here in the country and we had people come in and discover 100 new marine species. This year, Mike Bartic organized the Anilao critter fest and you'll see the world record biodiversity introduction tomorrow. We also have various destinations in other parts of the world featuring the Philippines as the best diving classroom, diving photography, and we'll service the needs as come. It's possible to dive in the Philippines all year round and we welcome over 60 exhibitors, diving trade agencies, marine conservation organizations and NGO's. We are the only dive b2b meet in Asia, and we'll have familiarization trips so you'll have a first hand knowledge of what we have to offer. We have buyers from around the world and aside from the DRT we organize other events in November, we'll have the 4th Anilao Underwater Competition and we have a lot to do in the next 3 days."

This is one of the largest meets and international show supported by different international organizations. In 2018 there will be 6 DRT shows around the Asian region. It's not just the Philippines that's excited about this and EZ dive Magazine Jason Chong puts it "This is our second year and you've got more diving equipment manufacturers in the show this year, we see the potential for the Philippines to be in the resort and diving business and DRT is here to let people see the Philippines could be a unique place for diving. We can't wait for you to see everything in SM Megatrade Hall today!"

A few days before the show they had some of their experts and photographers go out in the seas of the Philippines.

Michelle Hall a US Cinematographer and Writer says "The people of the Philippines has great support from DOT and you're lucky. We were here in the 80's and made films around the world, now we're excited to see your seas and a lot has changed. We haven't really been back until this year. In Palawan, I remember my diving gear being moved by an Ox cart. I've been in Malapascua and even though I prefer not having other divers here, it's great to see around 200 divers come down and see marine life. It's a great experience. Sign the petition for Thresher Sharks too and we're going to talk twice this week in the show so come if you want to know what we've been doing the past few years."

Author and Underwater Photographer Scott Tuason adds "Anilao was something I'd out my head in living here and have access to diving and marine environment at our fingertips and it took the world a while to understand what we have here. Now more people are pointing out the special things, like Malapascua, the reefs, it's then that they discovered it's a cleaning station, a great place to start if you want to know biodiversity up close is the Philippines."

Author and Photographer from the US Tim Rock says "You don't have to go far if you want a world class destination. To be part of the DRT today is an honor, you should see the show."

Come to SM Megamall's Megatrade Hall today as the trade show only will be here until Sunday, September 11. There are also a hundred photos from world class underwater photographers displayed so if you want visual inspiration, you should come!

Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House

Sunday, September 07, 2014

Gerry's Grill has been a staple in Filipino and Asian food since 1997 and it has been able to give friends, family, some of the best dishes and beer pairings since then. Owner Gerry Apolinario felt it was time to diversify their portfolio and since he's been well traveled, he wished of a place that would be able to take authentic Thai flavors to the Philippines but not charge an arm and a leg. It's important for him to earn just like any business but if the Filipinos couldn't afford it then no one would be able to experience these dishes. This is the start of how they pictured this new joint at the new Fisher Mall in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. They called it "Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House".

The Ambiance

The place has got seating of a round 40-50 people and extended outside for around 30 more. The interiors consist of a couple of "spices in spoons" murals in walls and has ample amount of natural light coming from the back. The space got maximized since the floor area is a bit small, but it's got an Open Kitchen as a focal point. There are also two huge aquariums on the side for the fresh and live fish that they serve to diners. It does make a difference when you taste something freshly caught of course! There's also a loft to house the kitchen's extension because they need the space for prepping ingredients of a fabulous menu. Let's take a look at that next!

The Food

The available condiments
If it's Thai food that you're after, they have the condiments that go with it. In Thailand, small stores have these on bowls. Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House wants you to experience what it is like in Thailand so you've got pickled chilis, sambal chili, dried chili, and pickled ginger. I had the sambal chili on my plate and it was so good, I almost emptied the whole jar!

Kamias Shake
I've tasted one of these in Cebu, but I think Sweet Chili Thai Fish and Noodle House wants a small fusion too of Thai and Filipino so they made this available for drinks. Pretty good too and not too tangy.
