Laugh and Cry to TOFARM's "Kamunggay"

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

I thought it was the same thing as the Moringa plant, and I was right. Kamunggay is the Visayan dialect equivalent of the lovely and nutritious Malunggay plant common in Filipino vegetable dishes and they named it after this with good reason. In a town and era where global warming got the Filipinos to undergo famine and hunger, the townspeople had one thing to do in order to survive, that is to plant food. There are really resilient and industrious ones, and there are those who chose not to work at all. That's where the conflict begins because these unscrupulous people started stealing from the old farmer, and get away with it.

Albeit heartbroken and furious about the situation, a lot of them got by with just making soup with the "Kamunggay" plant and got nourished fairly. It's a fight for survival, for ethics, how to deal with people who steal, how to make them pay for it, or just let them be. It's a story of family in the Cebuano and Mindanaoan Visayan dialect where you'll love the quirps of giving up, the act of giving, and bearing the fruits of your labor. All in that thin line of choosing what is right and wrong.

"Kamunggay" includes actorsKent Raymond Basa, Roger Gonzales, legendary singer Ms. Dulce Cruzata, Skyzx Labastilla and indie singer Bayang Barrios. They will tell you their individual stories and you'll learn how it affects everyone in the community.

This entry is written and directed by famed director Victor Acedillo Jr. who also did "Kakampi" in last year's festival. They make you see a lot of small funny things, and perhaps attempt to make you cry about how the life story ends for these characters. The festival runs from July 12-18 and will show this and other entries at SM Megamall, SM Manila, Greenbelt 1, Robinsons Galleria and Gateway Mall in Cubao.

This will be a good addition to your must watch films during the TOFARM Film Festival. Make sure you support this worthwhile projects made to uplift the lives of farmers across the country!

Restaurants Against Hunger Philippines

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

This is a passion not just for food but the passion for sharing, this is Restaurants Against Hunger. This is the first public act in the Philippines and it started with Action Against Hunger (1979) to once feed Afghan refugees during the Russian and Afghanistan war. They have 40 years experience and started in the Philippines during the year 2000, helping in central Mindanao with food programs. Hunger exists everywhere, not just malnutrition but how to detect and treat it is done by prevention. Access to clean water, not just food security is done so it could reduce malnutrition for children. They want to make sure it sustains the community, they are an NGO and converge during conflicts and help the population recover. They provide water and sanitation, and they will be able to do more with your help says Javad Amoozegar, the Country Director for Action Against Hunger Philippines.

Today, the Philippines is following the footsteps of UK, US, Canada and Spain by launching Restaurants Against Hunger. Joining various restaurants on their belt, and the Chefs in between, Chef Rolando Laudico is the ambassador for this cause and with the act of putting proceeds of particular dishes served in over 103 restaurants in the Philippines called DISHES THAT FEED MORE that will give life saving impact for kids with malnutrition. They will transform villages, do healthcare, educate and deal the things that stand in their way.

There are children that have low height for their age, kids that have stunted growth. That means 4 Million Filipino kids we are talking about. The country is ranked 9th in the world when it comes to stunting, undernourished kids doesn't just mean physically, but also mentally. Malnourished kids are bound to be caught in a cycle of poverty 20% of the time but in all these challenges, we can overcome it. We can help kids survive just by going and ordering these food items on their menu. It's time to put them on your list this 2016 as it will run from November 15, 2016 to January 15, 2017. You can register your restaurants too until November 30 at www.restaurantsagainsthungerphilippines.org or like their Facebook page @RestaurantsAgainstHungerPH, follow them on IG @RestaurantsAgainstHungerPH and on Twitter @EndHungerPH or their official website www.accioncontraelhambre.org/es/filipinas.

Summer is hotter with Banana Boat Sunscreen Lotion, Schick, & Nuffnang

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

My ideal Nuffnang summer is...

DSC_0012

A breeze that would make your summer nights colder, a tall glass of Tequila Sunrise, a beach that stretches around 7 KM of white beach sand and a hammock tied up in 2 coconut trees while watching the majestic sunset happen in its shores. Now how's that for a Nuffnang Summer? =)

DSC_0009

This happened just this February. I had a blog hiatus at this time and I just needed a break from all of the stress in the city. This vacation gave me more than what I bargained for because this sunset shots I got just made everything worth it! It's like "Schick. Free your skin." because the freedom I got there totally disconnecting from technology made me understand how much love I have for my self and my family. It's like saying "Banana Boat Sunscreen Lotion. We've got you covered." to me because I felt that everything I did at this time Boracay really gave me the time of my life!

Looks like Nuffnang is going to hook us up again this coming week in HUNGER GAMES. Thank you so much for making our summer a tad bit nicer! =)
