Petition for Habeas Corpus of ALABANG BOYS junked by CA

Tuesday, February 03, 2009

I just read on the news that the Court of Appeals rejected the petition for Habeas Corpus for the Alabang boys who are currently detained in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

In the 11 page decision by Associate Justice Monina Senarosa of the Special 13th Division Court of Appeals they reiterated that there is valid and just cause for the detainment of Richard Brodett, Jorge Joseph and Joseph Tecson because they have not finished court proceedings for the said men. The court was not convinced for the need to release the Alabang boys because it has been earlier given the same verdict under the Department of Justice because of the complaint of PDEA last month.

The said case is under automatic review of the Secretary of Justice and does not have binding, effective decisions without their approval. This procedure will be not done anymore if they force the court to decide on the case so most probably they would need to stay there for the duration of the case. Some things can't be bought by rich people huh?!

Independent body to handle Alabang Boys

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Rich kids in hot water for this drug case!

Congress would want an independent committee to handle the infamous Alabang Boys drug scandal. This is to prevent the terms brought about by politicians also dipping their hands into this huge fiasco. Several reports of bribery was included in the statement by Major Ferdinand Marcelino, team leader of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) but he refused to identify them publicly.

There should be a credible committee that would handle this case so the truth would come out and have the said prosecutor from the Department of Justice that sold the Alabang Boy's case put to justice too.
It's sad to say but it was also a compatriot from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) that offered him this bribe so he can't tell anyone as honor dictates.
No names as of now still have surfaced but there are several people that President Arroyo already put on leave like Undersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor and Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zuno.

Biazon on the other hand said that there should be inventory of (drug) cases and there should be an inventory of evidence. It has also been an issue that seized drugs finds its way back to the circulation of drug tradewhich is preposterous.

PDEA Admits P3-M Bribe Try

Thursday, January 08, 2009

PDEA Chief General Dionisio Santiago telling the tale of Alabang Boys

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) officer Major Fernando Marcelino testified at the House of Representatives a while ago. He admitted the existence of a P3 million bribery offer to him for the release of three suspects they arrested last year in a buy bust operation. They were the one coined as "ALABANG BOYS".

They had a very heated argument pointing fingers at who was to blame for the junked cases in the Department of Justice. This surfaced a lot of questions over legalities of procedure and how both the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Unit and the PDEA had troubles pushing through with prosecution. They now know how the DOJ junks these cases even if there is strong evidence over the masterminds of these buybust operations.

PDEA Chief General Dionisio Santiago said that he even had a text message saved from one of the family members of the Brodett's asking why he was complaining when he was already paid. This irked him a lot and so he confirmed this incident to congress. Their credibility is on the line obviously. He also gave details about how they caught the suspects in this drug related crime. Suspects Jorge Joseph, Richard Brodett at Joseph Tecson are still locked up but is being set free by papers from the DOJ. It's a good thing they brought this out into media, otherwise the culprits could have gotten away. They will be continuing sessions tommorow about this same issue. I wonder who got the money... hmmm.... Hahah!
