Supertanker MV Sirius Star Hijacked off the coast of Somalia

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

This is the MV Sirius Star, a Saudi oil Supertanker that was hijacked. This is the 7th in the past 12 days. We may lose baby oil this weekend. LOL. Photo by AP.
This is the 7th hijacked marine vessel in the past 12 days, someone ought to stop this. I know there are already several Filipinos that are held hostage this side of the globe. Ones that happened a few months back ended with them paying ransom for both the hostages and the ship itself. With this haul of oil (about a quarter of daily production from Saudi Arabia) worth $100 Million, it seems that these thieves are getting more powerful since they seem to have invested in larger arms and quicker boats. How in the world could we resolve this problem if no one would like to step in.

Siruis Star is larger than an Aircraft Carrier

I bet you that if this were a US ship hijacked off international waters it would be a different story. Anyway, I know some parts of them would want Saudi to lose money because they are too rich already... but what about the people that are in those boats? Most of them are Filipino seafarers because this is one industry that we have excelled in. With the problems like that, Abu Sayyaf, the Taliban, ETA (I heard also that they got one of their heads arrested) and whatever terrorist organization it may be... there are only a few who dare to do something about it.

I hope UN sees this as an international crisis... even if there are only a few men on board these ships they are only human. Protection for them and their safety should be done and measures for their ships before they are allowed to go out to the sea be prioritized because there are just no guidelines whatsoever for these circumstances. I talk too much in my sleep ^_^

My Aunt Milet Mendoza Freed from Abu Sayyaf

Sunday, November 16, 2008

My Aunt Milet and Ms. Espie reunites after months of captivity with Abu Sayyaf terrorists. Photo by Inquirer.

This post is just to thank all the people who continued prayed and sent their regards to my Aunt Milet Mendoza who was held captive 2 months by armed Abu Sayyaf.

Just yesterday early morning, we have learned that she has been released and safe now. She is resting and enjoying time with family which I'm sure she missed. She's got lots of stories to tell, but of course I hope local and foreign media would understand she needs to rest after that ordeal.

"I wanted to rest first and I need to gather all my thoughts before facing everyone else," Mendoza said, a bit apologetic after being told that other journalists were waiting for her when she was still in Basilan.

I saw her today, and she is still recuperating afaik. I hope she gets better soon. Again, thank you to everyone who prayed for her.

If you have messages for her, just leave a comment and I'll try getting em for her. ^_^

More than the usual Black Friday at Sears!

Friday, November 14, 2008

I've been searching for a Digital Camera to match my needs. High capacity, high performing processing that really works!

With Black Friday coming, I will be one guy among others that would probably get in line on most stores in the US since I am planning to visit my family for Thanksgiving.

There is however another thing that may stop me from doing so. They just announced their Sears Friends & Family VIP Night come Sunday, November 16. I know I would not miss this for the world because the rates and discounts are at par with the same Black Friday I've been waiting for. I would not want to wait anymore and bury myself with the lines I anticipate since the buying public would take the bait obviously because of the supposed US recession.

With this opportunity, we'll have extra 10% off on almost everything! (extra 5% on home electronics which I absolutely love!) and extra 15% off on apparel and fine jewelry and extra 20% off on outwear which I know my Mom would grab once doors open!

For those who just arrived in the US, Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, where it is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.

KUMAGCOW MOOOOVIE REVIEWS: High School Musical 3

Thursday, November 13, 2008

No, I never watched 1 and 2 so I dunno! Gimme a break!

I know I would be a little hard on you guys that may have watched and liked High School Musical 1, High School Musical 2 and people slaving on cable watching the Disney Channel for the same. Well... to tell you frankly when I watched this movie, I was clueless who Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, Chad Danforth, Taylor McKessie, Sharpay and Ryan Evans were. I only knew Zach Efron?!!! and half Filipina Vanessa since they have been raving in the news for quite a while but their characters here were a little far off from what I expected. Not to mention that it should have had a warning the movie were for teeny boppers ONLY (around 10-13) and not for the faint of heart of CUTESIE roles....(NAUMAY AKO SA SOBRANG PACUTE EH) I did not like it because maybe I was not a fan enough of the movie... yeah maybe.. well some parts were worth watching... and maybe again, just maybe if I started watching this since High School Musical 1 I'd give a fair reading on how this would critically be. All in all it was like GREASE... not with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John (which I enjoyed)... and was really intended for 3-17yo kids who didn't go out much I guess.... but really don't listen to my reviews for this since I never watched High School Musical 1 and the others.... maybe someday I will....if someone gives me a DVD copy...any offers?! (O_o)

I'm just going to give this 2 KUMAGS in the mean time ok?! Hope you kids don't get mad at me... ^_^
