FONTANA Independence Day Music Festival

Monday, June 13, 2011

We have been so blessed to live in a country where talented singers, legendary bands and world class performers are but a normal phenomenon. FONTANA Hot Spring Leisure Parks & Casino together with WIKA Records knows just this; and to celebrate the Philippines' 113th Independence Day Bands of different genres, Hiphop Artists, Singers, Dance Groups converged in one big concert at the resort last June 11, 2011.

Imagine watching these guys the whole day, all for the love of the country! Plus the experience to be in a world class resort ain't be that bad either! I mean, what would you feel waking up to this!

The Olympic sized pool with cabanas, tents and this huge sky!
FONTANA can truly be compared to paradise on earth!

The huge villas, lines of picket fences, year old or more trees all around give you that crisp smelling wind you yearn for while resting. I'm sure your family would enjoy it!

The afternoon started off with an MTV styled pool party complete with bump and grind ledge dancing which I only see on shows like The Grind and Spring Break! This all happened right in front of my eyes!

It was one HOT, SIZZLING afternoon!

Not just that! There were more surprises later in the evening because aside from the great, addicting music played by prominent DJ's of the country, world class bands performed!

The one and only Slapshock, Mocha Girls, Sandwich, Pop Shuvit (from Malaysia), D-COY, MIZZ SNAPPER, Tropical Depression, Artstrong, Kalayo, Peace Pipe, Nyco Maca and a lot of other WIKA Artists filled the evening with reggae, hiphop, 70's music, Jazz, funk and alternative all under one roof! I'm sure some of you are pretty sorry you didn't get to go on this event!

Nyco Maca flawless in their trumpet and Saxophones that evening! I love their sound! It brings back that 70's beat without effort!

Awesome alternative music from this band!

This band also impressed me. Their Jazz - Brazilian vibe was one of the highlights of the show. I would gladly purchase their CD and play it nonstop while driving.

Who wouldn't be awed at the sight of Ms. Mocha Uson and the Mocha Girls! As if the evening wasn't hot enough they made it oooh so sexy!

These gorgeous models also graced the event as they showed how to work the runway. Brazilian, Korean and the best Filipina Models were all there! What more can you ask for?!

Fontana is indeed a piece of paradise on Earth! They've got Entertainment like no other! I love how they went out of their way to celebrate this Independence Day Music Festival at their resort to show the best things the country has to offer. Without lifting our own bench; our people, talent and hospitality is unparalleled! Thank you to D-COY and his crew, staff and people from Fontana Hot Spring Leisure Parks and Casino; and people behind WIKA Records/Production for everything!

*Special Thanks to Louise Viola, and the gorgeous Ms. Janice Hung for introducing to us what the REAL Fontana is all about!

Wait for my article about their cause! That's gonna be posted here real soon!

Forever and a Day

Saturday, June 11, 2011

It's Star Cinema's 18th Anniversary and as part of their celebration; it's a film that talks about eternal love... the perfect thing to come out with. Loving someone is easy; but if you go through realizations of death and tragedy, would you still want to go through with it?

It's so hard to answer that but for Sam Milby and KC Concepcion, they said a resounding YES! They had some of the most public relationships in the past and true enough if they see that it is TRUE LOVE they would still want to go through with it. This was the statement they made known last night at the Forever and a Day Press Conference at ABS CBN.

Imagine a movie where the daughter of the Superstar Nora Aunor, Matet De Leon meets the daughter of the Megastar Sharon Cuneta, KC Concepcion. Isn't that enough reason to watch it?

KC Concepcion and Sam Milby strut on the Red Carpet.

It was nice to see them proud of this project. Cathy Garcia Molina had to literally isolate them from each other because they talked too much while making the movie. Was the "plain friendship status" getting in the way of how they tried to show their relationship in the movie? Director Cathy said yes and that's part of the reason why she had to do that.

"The two had worked so hard for this movie. They have impressed even exceeded my expectations" said Director Cathy Molina. The script is all about how a person would go out of his comfort zone and try his shot on loving someone forever... even if he knew it would also end eventually. KC is so proud of this movie and said that this was one of the hardest things to do. She was happy to be part of this movie; and to work with blockbuster Director Cathy Garcia - Molina. Sam Milby said he was better in all aspects in this one too. Better command of Tagalog, better acting among other things.

If you want to fall in love and believe in it again... watch Forever and a Day which opens on over 100 theaters NATIONWIDE this June 15, 2011.

Forever And A Day will also be having an International Premiere with Sam Milby in New York City. That will be on June 25, 2011 at Tribeca Performing Arts. Screening times will be 11:30 am and 6:00 pm. For tickets inquiries please call 917 513 5266 / 914 346 9646. Please visit their Facebook account for announcements on the regular screenings. It will be available in North America, Canada and the Middle East.

Fit to the real things they have been doing with us this whole century; Nestle dedicates these short films for the Filipino consumer. This is FREE of charge, all on Nestle's tab at 11 A.M. in the morning. Make sure you check them out on these theaters!

SM Megamall Cinema 3
SM Southmall Cinema 6
SM Rosales Cinema 1
SM Davao Cinema 1
SM Cebu Cinema 7

Photo galleries will also be put up at the SM Megamall Cinema Lobby from June 4 to 24, 2011. I specifically love the short film with Nicos from the famed Nestea commercial. It's a musical believe it or not but everything was well made and spent with. Here's a clip!

I wouldn't want to spill details on my site but here are the highlights!

Nestle Philippines Director of Communications Sandra Puno explains why Nestle is doing this for the Filipino. 100 years of their company and Filipino lives on screen, who wouldn't want to see that right?

Nestle Digital Marketing Manager Ricky Baisas welcomed us on this event. In behalf of Nestle, he's inviting all of us on cinemas mentioned above and enjoy the short films they produced. I enjoyed it, I'm sure you will too!

Ms. Sandra Puno of Nestle Philippines also said a few words about the beginnings of the company and how it became a part of the Filipino way of life.

Philippine Fashion Week 2011 presents 10: Edgar Allan

Let's do my backlog for Philippine Fashion Week again but this time, I'll tell you something about Edgar Allan's collection this time but just be slightly open. No, don't unbutton anything... just be open about criticisms. I'm not a fashion expert by diploma but I've got a pretty lengthy experience in looking at what's in or not in the UK, France and New York. With that said let's take a look at his collection. Shall we begin?

He opened the show with this one (L) and first impression is that he's definitely not doing High Fashion. His aesthetic falls more on the Avant Garde side because of the obvious exaggerated costume like pieces. Not for the faint of heart. (R) This pink polka dot - Japanese looking dress with an exaggerated flower in the center looked mighty conspicuous.

(L) The animal print, faux fur and orange did not work for me sorry! The heavy top and the not so light construction of the dress spoiled everything. Not that pleasing to the eye either. This was one miss. (R) Sun Flower + solid yellow and that veil worked but the edge on the mid rib area would have used more finishing. Making that clean would make this good.

(L) This one didn't work for me either. It is somewhat a little messy. It would have been better if the pink was structured and had a tougher, sturdier material. Shiny but not flattering. (R) The headpiece is very nice. The other half of the dress needs something else. I've seen these made by other designers and this one doesn't fit it.

(L) The long Blue-Green/Turquoise dress is VERY nice. Even if the model was dark skinned it looked good on her and it didn't even make her look darker. Reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn don't you think? (R) This yellow number is CUTE. It worked because of one thing on the dress, the lady bug!

(L) Ahh! This one is better than the other orange number earlier. Clearly a softer version of that bulky one. I like this tamed one plus the head piece. (R) No this isn't carnival in Rio de Janeiro. This might be a little too much "DRAG QUEEN". Not that there's anything wrong with that but for this line it didn't work.

(L) Maybe if it were a little slimmer on top and hugged the body of the model this might work. Color choice is unquestionably good. That pop of black and white on the back did wonders for this but overall this is medium. (R) The Finale looked "Drag Queen" again, a little sloppy on the edges of the gown, which reminds me of something that Liza Minelli would wear. The back part and size of the cape is okay but not the bottom. He makes great head pieces.

The designer: Edgar Allan

The line was cohesive and well put together but there were some hits and misses here and there. I wouldn't want to just judge this based on the looks because he might have something in mind as inspiration which would probably make this a lot more sensible. It would have been better if he had taken out 2 of these and done 2 more of a different hue like reds or blue. Congratulations though on making it to the Philippine Fashion Week.

That's enough for today.
