SKYCable select brings Bigger Things This August!

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Loving what you watch and having the choice of programs is definitely a plus in my books. Sky Cable has outdone itself last July when they launched new programs and promoted channels like history, discovery and more. This August they want something bigger so they are bringing more to the table.

Who wears contact lenses? I do, but did you know it only takes almost 15minutes to make one? How about that bubble gum? Did you know it was made by a dentist years ago by simply combining plastic and rubber? Make sure you get Discovery Science (channel 123) for only 20 pesos add on to your basic plan. That's for a whole month, imagine that!

The biggest fishes, creatures and monsters are in your own backyard. Watch how Adventure King and Biologist Jeremy Wade take that out of the water for 50pesos a month by watching the fourth installment of RIVER MONSTERS on Discover Channel (channel 120). Your kids will surely enjoy this and have a great time discovering more with just a measely amount on top of your basic plan, its that easy!

Humor in fun and learning at the comfort of your own home by the cast of Wild Kratts can be yours for only 50 pesos a month via Discovery Kids. Educational and entertaining at the same time, it's live action segments would put your kids at the edge of their seats while learning at the same time. What can be better than that?!

Make sure you subscribe to the SKYCable Basic Plan and add more channels when you need it, when you want it by SKYCable Select.

Sky Cable and the Department of Energy in TV Olympics!

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Saving energy in the Philippines is tantamount to the success of the country. We have one of the world's most expensive energy rates next to Japan and imagine the difference between us and the first world countries consumption, its a pretty far cry from what we think is normal. Sky Cable and the Department of Energy in partnership with Asian Development Bank, SM Supermalls and the Center for Clean and Renewable Energy Development just recently launched the first ever TV OLYMPICS in the country. This is part of the DOE's energy efficiency campaign to promote awareness, energy conservation while we use normal day to day appliances at home.

Honestly, I didn't know we consume that much energy when using the ordinary cathode ray tube tv sets we have. Comparing it to the LED tv sets just puzzled me because the technology made it clearer and consume less current as seen in the tests they had in the SM Megamall Atrium. Sky Cable was standing as partner and gave each running TV set the same broadcasted programs while its running on the event floor. They were measuring each one in real time and seeing the monitor up on front made me think of LED TV choices I had to do when purchasing a TV set. The famous brands were there and some of them are clearly ahead of the pack. Comparing their recent energy output to the normal consumption of CRT TV's was mind boggling because it just shows how much you can save on a new one.

I'll be replacing our CRT TV's at home soon because as far as I can tell, its worth it! They also discussed how the waste coming from the old TV sets were so harmful to the environment that even boy and girl scout organizations in the Philippines and people from other government offices endorse these new ones right off the bat. Imagine you can save upto 14.8 GWh and lessen 100,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year! That's a remarkable feat and I'm so glad SkyCable, DoE and other organizations are making headway letting the public know the real deal in energy consumption. You guys should go there at the SM Megamall Atrium and check out the TV's they are testing so you know which one to pick up the next time you need a tv set. Happy watching!
