KUMAGCOW Visits Davao City!

Friday, October 12, 2012

Okay so who else has noticed that I haven't been blogging the last few days? Miss me? I guess no one did LOL.. Anyway I went on a short trip to Davao (if you follow me on twitter I was tweeting like hell!) and got to some short stops in between. I don't think I should show you some photos from the airport because the whole building had phone company logos on it (and I'm not for free advertising LOL) so I'll try to show you around on some of the places I visited there. Shall we start?

I heeded the advise of my blogger friends who went there a couple of months ago and stayed at Jazzy James Country Hotel. It's not that expensive. The room was basic, and kinda on the corny side because of the country-western theme via cowboy and cowgirl murals on headboards they placed on the bed. I only stayed here to sleep anyway but it's pretty new plus the location was really close to everything in Davao as a starting point. Around 30mins or less away from the airport and right beside the Victoria Plaza Mall. Complementary water, a decent sized shower and two comfy beds of less than a thousand isn't that bad right?

I had brunch with CJ that afternoon because I haven't eaten anything that morning. It's time for some Japanese! So we settled in Red Kimono Abreeza Mall!

Dragon Maki - Maki with a kick, it had Tuna Tartare, spring onions, the usual fish roe, bread crumbs and avocadoes. But they didn't have avocadoes that time but we still ordered it. It was good!

Gyoza or Pot Stickers -  It kinda smelled funny for me, I think this was frozen and thawed. Not as fresh as I wanted it to be but it was okay. It's got pork and a little shrimp on it so I wanted just a little of it. I lied LOL!

The usual Watermelon Shake, nothing special. It was just enough to prevent me from overheating that afternoon.

Sukiyaki - I appreciate the effort but I think I had better ones from local fastfood joints in Quezon City. Hello Teriyaki Boy LOL! They had fresh ingredients for the Maki though.

Now this come in a bento box!

Chicken Teriyaki, Gohan, Sweet Bean Paste thingy - It was nice, the chicken was freshly cooked. The Gohan was also nice because they have high grade rice. The dessert was just soso.

Then we had the afternoon to venture out and look for some churches which I loved to take photos of. We went to the nearby church.

Redemptorist Church - It was hazy that afternoon, everything was against the light and the church had it's roof repaired so there were people everywhere else in the other side of this building.Pretty nice Church though, looks like it was built in the 70's.

Now I forgot what this church was called but it was Catholic. I'll have to check with CJ again because apparently I lost the notes I took while we were walking around Davao. This was quite near SM Lanang Premier because we just walked a bit to get there. (Oh I just got his message and says this was the Carmelite Church!)

Speaking of SM Lanang Premier, its like the newest SM branch in Davao. It was formerly a golf course which they turned into a mall. It was huge and boxy. There are lots of signature brands but they are still closed. Some are actually open and I've seen Bench and Cotton On there too. This on the photo however is something to talk about. It's the longest fountain in the Philippines to date. They hold shows for it too to the delight of customers and tourists in the area. Pretty neat!

Hmm.. Maybe I'll have this cut off for now... I have more adventures in Davao so stay tuned for my separate posts about the lovely city I discovered! :)

Later! =)

Tanduay Rhum Rockfest Year 6!

Saturday, October 06, 2012

There are rockstars.... and there are rock gods. The Philippines has got a lot to thank for because the industry is flourishing. That was the thing these guys chose to talk about a few days ago. All for the love of rock! Mind you they just started talking about it after the first question was thrown in. Check out these photos and see if you know some of them! =)

Chito Miranda of Parokya Ni Edgar! He says how can the music industry die if we've got our band playing a lot of gigs these days. We've got our own set of followers and if you know how much they adore us, that statement about the music industry dying is just not true!

Kamikazee frontman Jay Contreras agrees. Then laughs it off with PNE vocalist Chito Miranda. The question and answer portion just became hilarious!

Good looking Rico Blanco. He's so happy to sit beside his rock buddies and about this awesome opportunity to work with them.

Urbandub's Gabby Alipe is also going to be there. Isn't that great?!

Tanduay, the Philippines' number 1 rum knows that in this day and age people need to start paying attention to the talents that we have in the country. They are launching the biggest and grandest series of concerts in Luzon, Vizayas and Mindanao as part of the Tanduay Rhum Rockfest Year 6. They have been doing it a few years already and the thing is, the best bands, rock gods and personalities this country have will perform with their compatriots to celebrate another year of Philippine Rock Music! Tanduay knows their market starts with the new generation, the young professionals who enjoy having a couple of rounds of their product. If you go out at night, enjoy mixed drinks, chances are one of the main ingredients of each glass you take probably has Tanduay Rhum!

One of the inspirations of why I went into bands a few years back is this guy right here. When I see him perform, its just goosebumps! Wolfgang and its front man Basti Artadi is here!

Good friend Calde Calderon of Chicosci was there. It was so nice to meet him, do you remember the time I interviewed him here? =) It's cool and good looking people like him that make me believe music can transcend genres and stereotypes. Just look at Chicosci's music and you know what I mean!

I had so much fun listening to their candid answers, the host from channel 4 did a pretty good job hosting.

Rap superstar Gloc 9 thought he was the odd man but imagine how he became the only rapper who will perform with these rock artists. I was excited to see him perform that afternoon!

Ebe Dancel will also be there among the tons of bands that will perform for the 6th installment of Tanduay Rhum Rockfest!

Gloc 9 performed Hari ng Tondo where Denise his protege was part of. It was awesome!

If that wasn't crazy enough I had goosebumps listening to them play Sirena with Ebe Dancel! It was awesome I tell you!

Three BIG Concerts in Three different regions, this is the Tanduay Rhum Rockfest Year 6 paying homage to OPM and artists of this country! If you don't watch, you'll surely regret it!

Artists, producers, people from Tanduay signed on this commitment wall in support of Original Filipino Music!

The concerts will be in Cebu on October 12, Davao on October 19 and Manila on October 26, 2012! Don't worry if you don't have tickets yet because it's so easy to get one to see these people perform live!

If you want tickets to the show, you don't really need to shell out money. For those who want VIP tickets, simply purchase 2 bottles of Tanduay 5 Years 750ml and 1 bottle of Tanduay Light 750ml on selected 7-11 outlets nationwide! For those who want to watch in the General Admission section, buy a single bottle of Tanduay 5 Years 750ml or 1 bottle of Tanduay Light 750ml and you can claim them from the same participating stores. You can start asking your friends to chip in so you can get it. It's that easy!

The Launch Of His Self Titled Album: Paulo Avelino

Thursday, October 04, 2012

Everybody knows Paulo Avelino. Cute, gorgeous, sexy, one that's got the body that most people would envy. I was able to interview him a few months ago for the movie Aswang. I find him so humble, appealing and who wouldn't wanna say the best terms you would ever wanna think of for a guy who's got the best assets ordinary men would just dream of. Playing the famed character "Nathan" in Walang Hanggan probably made him the household name that he is. Admittedly he says it was not much of a sacrifice when he decided to transfer stations, but he said he made some VERY tough decisions. He's now reaping the fruits of his labor and he owes his success to a lot of people. His management, his family, his fans and all the people who support him.

Now pegged as one of the most bankable actors of our time, he marks this day as his freedom. Freedom to venture into other forms of art, yes ladies and gentlemen... Paulo Avelino's got a self titled album and he's excited to let you hear about it. His current single "When She Cries" has been doing good in airplays and requests now consequently placing 6th on MyMusicStore.com.ph topping other singers and artists in legal digital downloads. How can you not be happy with that?! =)

A little nervous at first, Paulo introduced us to his new album. It's got three covers to cater to everyone's taste, 6 tracks and its counterpart minus ones so 12 all in all. He says he owes a lot of his fame to the success of his show in ABSCBN and since he wanted to be a well rounded actor and singer they gave him this opportunity to have his own album. He also touched a bit on how he missed the Cosmo Bachelor Bash because of the One Kapamilya Tour. He's not holding back on baring himself out in the public and says as long the project needs it he will do it. He feels a little sad about ending the series Walang Hanggan and will miss his co actors too. He mentioned that the last airing will be on the 26th but fret not because he's got a few films up his sleeve. "The bride and the lover" with Lovi Poe and Jennelyn Mercado is now in the works. Plus he's got more projects in the pipeline. Among the tracks in this album, his favorite is "Your Love". They are also making the music video for this already so make sure you stay tuned for that. His priorities onlynow include family, work, friends, fans and of course God among others.

He shares his excitement about the official release of this album this Friday and the upcoming meet and greet on SM Skydome which will happen on Sunday. He's going to do a lot of things that day so if you don't have anything to do on October 7, 2012 rush down to SM City North Edsa and get the chance to avail of his album and watch his show.

I admire Paulo Avelino, for being the great actor that he is, and the things he does so he could learn other things... because he treats himself as a true artist! Music to him is just like acting so he is trying to hone his skills other than the obvious; because he knows he's been pretty good at it. This is his life long dream. He wanted to really sing and his track sales online show there is a market for him. The song choices in this album are evident of how he grew up in the 90's so he wanted to have a band perform with him too later on if the opportunity permits. After all, he does not want to disappoint the crew and producers who made this happen for him. His only one wish is for you to see how much he wants to do this for you too... make sure you grab his album on stores this Friday. Show starts on Sunday 5pm at the SM North Skydome so don't forget he's waiting for you!
