SM Holds Movies for the Deaf and Blind

Sunday, August 17, 2014

It was a heartwarming sight to see our brothers and sisters who are differently abled, blind and deaf at the cinemas of SM The Block a few days ago. The plan is, to actually have these facilities (all SM Cinemas) to be retrofitted with the right equipment in order to cater to these wonderful kids and their families a place to watch movies even if they are in that condition. This is a very good move for SM, SM Prime Holdings, SM Cinemas and SM Cares. They are doing this hand in hand with AKAP Pinoy, Philippine Blind Union, NCDA, Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the MTRCB.

It was impossible to do this before but with the help of technology and proper dubbing, there are now digital movies that can be interpreted for the blind and put in closed captioning for the deaf. I thought it was not going to be possible because they wouldn't be able to see or understand it, it all became clear to me once they started the movie.

They invited them from special education classes all around the metro and got the movie HUGO on screen for them. Each scene was described meticulously for those who could not see, from going through pipes, smoke, the construction of the fonts and the credits, everything was described for them. The closed captioning was also there so the deaf can actually read the dialogue of the characters. They also described them during the times the characters were only looking at them so you know our blind friends would be able to understand the scenes as they go along.

They signed the memorandum of agreement in order to make more movies like these. Atty. Eugenio "Toto"  Villareal of the MTRCB, executives from SM Cares, SM Cinemas, SM Prime Holdings and other NGO's was there to witness it. They will work on making more movies like these, the Filipino films included and perhaps give more incentives to private corporations, producers who would make their films available to the differently abled brethren. That right there is history, if we could only do this to every film... it would be something that we'll be so happy to share with the blind and deaf individuals so they could be able to live more independently even when watching in the cinemas.

Thank you so much to SM Cares, you truly are working to make every Filipino's life better. Thank you for your heartfelt gesture in making this accessible to the blind and deaf, you deserve every applause you got from them. Including me. *Waves hands in sign language*

Smart Introduces 5G LTE-A Network in the Country!

Saturday, August 16, 2014

Mr. Orlando B. Vea, Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart during the tests of 5G LTE-A technology in 2013; where they recorded 209.66 mbps speeds in the Philippines.

In the eve of the rising number of Filipinos clamouring for better and faster Internet connection, the nations largest network Smart Communications just announced the first ever use of 5G LTE in the Philippines by switching to this state in  the Smart JUMP Center in Mandaluyong City.

Mobile operators elsewhere in the world like AT&T and T-Mobile has this and it has delivered data of up to 100 megabits per second (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) which is alomst ten times faster than 3G. You can also compare that to be more than twice as fast as current 4G services in the country.

This new LTE-A technology is something historical as this pegs Smart to be in the ranks of a few carriers in the world that has it. Smart just made the Philippines stand along with other leading mobile operators in South Korea, United States, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. Now that this is going to be available in the country, we would be soon  enjoying dreamy 5G speeds as they roll out these changes in more regions in the Philippines.

This has been a possible task as Smart also utilizes the PLDT Fiber Optic Cable connection. They say it's already around 90,000 Kilometers of underwater cabling installed and they'll be continuing to install lines in the Visayas and Mindanao region to prevent redundant ones. It's going to be faster and better soon and it'll benefit millions of Filipinos. As long as you're with Smart, you're gonna get there!

My 3 Day Sale Experience at SM Sta. Mesa!

Friday, August 15, 2014

Hey you! I've been so excited to actually go to SM Sta. Mesa and decided to actually tell you about it. For those who haven't gone there yet, you have 2 days left, up until Sunday to get the best deals up to 70% off on your favorite items. When I got there, you must know where I headed. This is the Men's shoes section. I've got several pairs at home that I haven't even used yet but we gotta do what we gotta do.

When the red flag is up, it's showing that I've got 50% off the original price on shoes. That's more reason to get one right?

All American looking boat shoes from Outland, but it's only 800 pesos. Crazy!

This one's from Milanos, I wanted this and it only costs 799 too.

This one's perfect for those semi formal occasions. When I grabbed it from the shelf and saw that it's only 800 bucks, I got it! They said people got the smaller sizes already and this is the last one. Thank gawd I've got big feet ha! It's from Mario D Boro so it's surely one that's got quality. I went on to the next rack and checked the other shoes that would get my attention.

GBX had some really good shoes on display and I've been looking for something that I'd wear everyday. This red, white and black number is in the league because I'm a UE Red Warrior. Plus, it's only 900 bucks. A good deal doesn't come easy these days so I got this one too.

And when I was almost done fitting my shoes, I saw this on the table right in front of the GBX rack. I love how comfy it is and still stays in form. I also like the interior. Took this one home too. Same brand GBX and it looks exactly like the 5K worth shoes I was wearing that afternoon. This one's only 1,300 pesos, it's usually almost 3K on regular days so I took it without even blinking.

So I've already got my shoes and was about to go home happy, I lined up at the counter and computed that I have spare pesos to get something else. Good thing I was right beside the Toy Section which just had something I wanted for my van.

I had to hoard the Furbies! (Thanks Azrael for this photo!) It will sit right at the back where everyone else would be able to play with it, Mom included!

There's also more pants and shirts that you would love from great brands on the ground floor. I resisted, or else I'd be scratching cards at this point. We went a little hungry also so we went to Wendy's and spent a couple of hours there.

The burgers were all big and meaty but you know what catched our fancy? The SALAD BAR is back and it only costs P199 on selected Wendy's Stores. It's a good thing the SM Sta. Mesa branch has it! We saw some really big attempts on the salad bar and they even told us that some would stack like 6 inches high. Don't you miss doing this in Wendy's? I miss it too, Biggie Iced Tea comes a close second! Well, you've got to make plans and visit SM Sta. Mesa this weekend to catch the last two days of sale and dining with the salad bar at Wendy's! I'm a very happy boy, you guys work too hard so go reward yourself this payday weekend! You deserve it!

PS

You can even win a Suzuki Ertiga in the raffle as every P1K purchase can get you one raffle stub! They're giving away phones too so what are you still doing at home? Come join the fun in SM! Remeber, you've got 2 days more!

One Pampering Day at Ellen's Aesthetic Centre

Ellen's in Timog Avenue corner Tomas Morato
It's been a while since I had a facial as I have issues of other people touching my skin. Believe it or not, this is my second facial... in my entire life. I usually just do it myself, at home and I think I do a pretty good job at it. Yes I am that vain. Thing is, I might not be completely getting it cleaned so I did the next best thing by visiting Ellen's in Timog Avenue corner Tomas Morato in Quezon City. Ms. Ellen was there and she got me immediately going up her skin center, laid on the beds and be made up by one of their experts. I was in for a nice facial. (Warning: Selfie Heavy!)

I always take care of my face and try to maintain a less oily T Zone since that's my problem. Gone were the times of puberty and I'm so glad I got over that phase of acne because of hormones during high school (which happened a few years ago). I also learned the art of taking care of my skin early on. How? One rule, moisturize, moisturize and moisturize. First thing they did there is the same thing, they put moisturizers first.

Then a short facial massage ensued distributing that same moisturizer on my face. It felt good already.

Then they got this steam machine directed to my face prolly to open my pores. That's when they started to take everything off my skin, I think they pricked small ones and got white heads excavated like EDSA. The lady assigned to me said I didn't have much on my face  (prolly because I do things like these at home) but I felt she did take a lot of it out of my skin. She also noticed that I might have to get some small warts coiterized but I begged off because they say the marks might last a week and I didn't wanna bear it. They looked at my skin closely and even gave me a mirror so they could point at it (I was clueless).

After the cleaning, I got moisturized again and they prepared to close my pores with something cold in the end.

They whipped out a Mint Tea mask on my skin which felt like small stings on those parts which they opened up on my face earlier. It felt cold too so it closed my pores after the procedure.

Then I spent about 10-15 minutes and almost dozed off with that mask on my face. She continued to put on dabs of cream and gently massaged it in again which made my face glow after that facial. It felt so clean afterwards and I was so glad Ms. Ellen Lising got me taken cared of in her facial care center. The attendants were surely trained and meticulous in what they were doing and must say I was totally satisfied with the work they've done on my face. I washed it before I slept and woke up super refreshed after having them do that. Totally worth the visit!

Thank you Ms. Ellen and to your very kind people who never hesitated to answer my questions while I was getting my facial! Super thanks!

Oh and I heard they just opened their new branches at Unit 201 Oceana Commercial Complex in Mc Arthur Highway, Balibago Angeles City (Phone Number (045-3223260/0917-8151630) and at 270 Unit 6 Samson Road, Caloocan City (Phone Number 09272987136) so call them if you want to set an appointment or if you want anything done (they've got a ton of services). Again, they are nice people so if you have time please drop by any of their establishments near you!
