Japanese Curry Fit For Filipino Palate: Eri Curry

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

It looks like a new player is in town. Eri Curry, a local brand set to ignite your taste buds with their own version of Japanese curry at the atrium of SM Megamall's building B. The owners have been journeying Japan and other countries, seeing great potential on a staple food item in Japanese specialty restaurants and thought Filipinos would absolutely love this!

They did it with a pretty festive and grand way that afternoon when Geishas performed modern dance numbers inspired by Japanese themes. I loved what they did on stage because it felt like Cherry Blossoms season once again.

One of the owners is Concert Queen Pops Fernandez, the Chef and other executives opened and blessed the store a few days ago. Then we went inside the quaint store to get a taste of their specials.

This is Sakana Warm and Tender. It's Sole Fish wrapped in rice and slightly spicy Japanese mayo. It's a little heavy because it's deep fried with Tempura batter if I'm not mistaken. I would have wanted this to be a regular maki instead.

This is their Ebi Futo. It's Shrimp Maki with Romaine Lettuce, Cucumber, a dab of Japanese Mayo and light soy dressing. It's sweet, I like this a lot because it's refreshing and it's like you're eating salad on a Maki roll. It's better than the Sakana Warm and Tender.

This is their FIERY Katsu Curry. It's Pork Tonkatsu sitting on a bed of premium Japanese rice and a flooding of Curry Sauce with streaks of soft egg. They have three levels of spiciness on the curry but I find it still moderately spicy on the Fiery level. It's a 5/10 but you can use the chili powder available on the table to make it even more spicy. The dish is also pretty heavy, one that can probably feed two women. Men can have it on their own. In Japan, they usually have this after a night of drinking. If they are woozy, they want something ultra flavorful and make them sweat a bit so this is perfect. The price point is a little high at 320, but you get the premium ingredients for your food so I don't think you are getting shortchanged.

It's time for you to experience it at the third floor of SM Megamall's atrium. Come with your friends and family, the place can probably seat up to 50-70 people as some seating is also available outside the store. Make this your next curry destination since it's a really good place to try it.

Smart Infinity Brings "CHICAGO The Musical" in Manila

Smart Infinity brings more things than just personalized service, VIP network access, they've got VIP privileges in the bag too. They just made us victims of shock and awe last Tuesday at the Solaire Grand Ballroom by bringing Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly and all that jazz with CHICAGO the Musical in Manila. It's the most sexy, sleek and sophisticated show built with sharp humor and modern glam charm setting fire on stage this December 2-21st, 2014. Think of 6 Tony Awards, 2 Laurence Olivier Awards and a Grammy, this isn't your ordinary show.

To even make it better and create our own moment in Solaire, they started performing!

THE THEATER at Solaire has got state of the art audio and video facilities. It will open it's doors with this show as an opening salvo. It'll be less than three months to go before we see that. Solaire's executives welcomed us also and wishes us to come back and see their lyrical theater in all its glory and to create more moments soon. They are expanding more of the resort side as they have finished it's primary structures. They promise new places for luxury, night life and more fun at the venue.

Audie Gemora will spearhead all events at THE THEATER in Solaire

Ms Julie Carceller Head of Smart Infinity Business at Smart Communications says bringing this new event to the Filipinos is but a great pleasure, they've brought Wicked, Mama Mia, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Stomp and now, Chicago The Musical. They believe bringing these world class shows can only deliver true value to customers, a thing they strongly believe in for their VIP's. Chicago will only come in the Philippines, and no other Asian country will have it and they are looking forward for a great number of musical loving Pinoys to catch a glimpse of it in The Theater, Solaire!

It's clever, it's witty, it's sexy and sassy, plus the choreography is incredible! Thanks to Smart Infinity for bringing Chicago The Musical to Manila.

Terra MacLeod says "Through movement you have to deliver the message of the show. It sculpts the body and that's quite unique for the show. Standing in who you are, being vulnerable, you grow with it. I loved the movie but you can't compare it because it's live theater. It's going to be powerful and you'll see something powerful like what Paris and Montreal has seen and now you in Manila"

Bianca Marroquin and Terra MacLeod will make you forget that you're in Manila when CHICAGO The Musical starts on December 2-21st, 2014 at THE THEATER in Solaire
"The only constant thing in life is change. The only thing constant in life is Roxy. After 18 years it's like we just opened because people say we are the best in Broadway. Our mission is to move hearts, their minds, they allow us to be who we are. Staying honest. We are truthful, the script is strict. They'll understand you, you can get the audience on your side." says Bianca Marroquin who plays Roxy Hart in the show.

You'll find this show quite interesting if you've watched the movie with Renée Zellweger as Roxanne "Roxie" Hart and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly. It's quite different when you see it live and it'll give you chills while watching. I know I did during the preview and those were like 3 numbers only, what more a full show and that eagerly awaited prison cell scene we've gotten to know about in the movie. You can still get tickets from Ticketworld or if you subscribe through Smart Infinity's special offers. Just check the channels below. Remember, it's going to happen on December 2 and run until the 21st. I can't wait to be in the gala. See you there!

Celebrate Authentic Oktoberfest at Sofitel Manila!

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Oktoberfest has been part of the Philippine scene since we are after all the third largest drinker in the world. Bavaria would have been proud to see beer always chugging off bars, establishments and places in Manila and what better way to make that experience authentic by having REAL Oktoberfest at Sofitel Manila. The German Club Manila established in 1906, the German Embassy and Sofitel Manila will head the merry making and even bring the actual authentic Bavarian band to make it even more festive this 76th Oktoberfest!

So we did the next best thing by suiting up with real deal Bavarian hats and held our one liter German Beer Mugs, then after that... we just had to warm up with an Oktoberfest requirement... a dance!

Now I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that I wasn't a little shy doing this, but I was.... but if you see the actual Germans that average 6ft tall doing all the moves with gusto, you'll really have to do it yourself, then once you get the hang of it... you'll LOVE it! :)

The German Club and Sofitel Manila did even more to have us get a taste of the festivities. They told us how much food and booze is going to be served on October 17 and 18. Almost 2000+ people attend each day and they have broken each of those records every year. There's nothing that can match Oktoberfest in Sofitel Manila because you just can't find anything as authentic as this anywhere else in the country!

Then we got on to the feast fit for a King!

So if you're not convinced that the ton of sausages, meat, potatoes, sauerkraut, mustard and beer could not get you interested in celebrating at Sofitel Manila this October 17 and 18, you must be crazy. Go give them a call and reserve at 5515555. Go with your friends and make this celebration a memorable one by doing it the right way, like the Germans do!
