It looks like the goal of Smart when they launched their Free Internet thing a couple months back is really working. I even see my Mum using Facebook off wifi when it existed and enjoying all the perks of being in this network too. Mum's like one of the millions of Filipinos who owns smartphones but never even thought about using data because of the costs that comes with it. Having it free makes them feel the convenience of the technology and get them at least acquainted on how to use it efficiently too.

What's he talking about?

If you're a Smart Prepaid subscriber, you can now still stay connected through call, text and surf with All Text 20 Plus. Together with the plan, they now offer 45MB of surfing with it! That, along with unlimited text to all networks, 20 minutes of calls to Smart, Sun and TNT, all valid for one whole day. Unbelievable? Well you haven't seen nothing yet!

As Smart Prepaid Subscribers can now call, text and surf MORE with Unli Call and Text 25. The promo now has been enhanced to include 45MB of surfing. Now you cans til have unlimited calls to Smart and TNT, unlimited text to Smart, Sun and TNT, plus 50 texts to other networks, all of which are valid for one whole day. If you're enjoying the Unli Call & Text 50 promo, it now includes 140MB of surfing. This will also include the unlimited calls to Smart, TNT and Sun, unlimited text to all networks which is valid for three days (I personally use this one of course!). Aside from that, other promos will also get a boost of additional 30MB of data. Subscribers can get this by simply dialing *121# which is Smart’s easy access number for all their latest promos and services.

Spinnr Wins At 20th Global Mobile Awards

Touted as the Oscars of the mobile world, the 20th Global Mobile Awards of the GSMA telecoms industry association has dubbed a Filipino App SPINNR to be the “Best Mobile Music App” this 2015. It was given during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. 

Spinnr was pitted against other nominees like Samsung’s Milk Music, Universal Music’s The Kleek, Bharti Airtel’s Wynk, and the Radio Sawa app. With the Philippines having a low credit card user base, Spinnr has been able to increase their subscriptions with prepaid and postpaid abled lines through the telecom lines of Smart, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular. It's got premium ad-free streaming, individual song purchases, and free radio service. You can use it for as low as P2.50 a day and with no extra data charges. Subscribers can pay for music downloads and stream conveniently, through affordable prepaid load deductions or just charging it to their postpaid bill. This can do without credit cards or special processes so it's very convenient.

I personally use it and have seen how the first music streaming app in the country has been able change the way Filipinos look at how to have things through mobile internet. Smart also introduced FREE Internet so usage is becoming part of normal rituals in Filipino lives. The more people online, the more they take advantage of the technology. Singing in the shower couldn't be so wonderful without it playing your favorite songs, streaming the best tracks, playlists in the country. It doesn't have to be expensive either!

Congratulations Spinnr! I can't wait to see the Spinnr Awards also this year! I hope the best music tracks, and artists in my list would end up winning most of the awards! TOMS Philippines Opens SM Mall of Asia Branch

I went to a TOMS event a few days ago. It was when they opened their new store on the ground floor, right wing of Mall of Asia. TOMS for me then was just something off the shelves, something fashionistas would wear and repeat again next season or when their pair gets worn out. Prejudice? Yes, but it's cool to be schooled every once in a while.

TOMS was founded by Blake Mycoskie. When he was in Argentina, he befriended kids and found some of them didn't have their feet protected. He made this company specifically so that he would match every pair of shoes so he could purchase another one for a child in need. He called it One for One.

TOMS also went into eyewear in 2011 (called it TOMS Eyewear) and helped restore sight to people in need. This also benefits some of our less fortunate Filipinos who have been affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan. He also has put up TOMS Roasting Co. to provide worthwhile jobs and clean water in every purchase of their premium coffee. He also has put up TOMS Bag Collection to provide services for birthing and kits that would help in this goal. Now, there are over 35 Million pairs of shoes that have been given away, they also have restored the sight of about 275,000 people, and provided over 67,000 weeks of safe water worldwide, the Philippines included.

This season, TOMS is bringing in their products a step towards adversity. They want you to take a shot at the island life, feel how you can walk comfy with Majorca Booties, new TOMS Bags, breezy sandals, travel sneakers and huaraches (a type of mexican sandal). The mix of faux leather, canvas, rubber in different levels makes them a worthwhile brand to look at when you think about style that's got global acceptance and exceptional quality.

  

Though you may think this is a bit on the pricey side, they have some that are still in a good price range, especially the canvass shoes. Though remember, your money goes a long way in every pair of TOMS shoes that you buy. I love their faux leather boots and the winter camouflage canvass shoes and I think I'll go back for that soon.

It's not a joke when they say that it'll go to make an impact in 70 countries for the shoes, and about 13 countries for the eye wear. Oh and yes, you might think they're in this business for fashion, but they're here to improve lives. TOMS has already proven that over the years. As for me...

I got my first pair of TOMS, and I'm off to get my second one perhaps this week. You should too!

First Look: Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

It's here and Samsung just proudly announced the most advanced phone they have in their arsenal. This is the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. We got dibs on some photos from our friends from Smart and I'm sure they'll be coming out with the best packages when this gets officially released this quarter.

It already won accolades in the recent Mobile World Congress for being the "Best New Handset, Tablet or Device" by the modest GSM Association. I think it's the first time that a company did get that in consecutive years since they also won last year with the Samsung Gear Fit. They are also employing the Knox Security Platform which is the best security and fraud protection for this OS, they also won themselves an award for that solution too.

Both phones steered away from the plasticky exterior they used to have and now has a longer facade at 5.65 inches. What wowed most of the people during the launch is the Platinum Gold color, which made this look so expensive. It's also going to be available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire and Blue Topaz.

The camera also popped out on a bevel and has 16 Megapixels, whilst it's front camera is at 5 Megapixels. I'm sure you would be able to see your pores when you use the back camera for selfies. 

Samsung fans, this would be your next dream phone but of course like what people are afraid of with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you might not want it if you're a little clumsy. You couldn't bump this on table corners because the edges are exposed. Or if they do invent cases for the Samsung Galaxy Edge, what are they planning to do? Cover it? Makes sense?

If you are to choose, I suggest you get the Samsung Galaxy S6 instead of the Edge. You might want to wait a bit too because from what I know of the pricepoints, it's a bit expensive. If you are getting a plan, make sure it's from Smart so you take full advantage of the LTE connection since they have the widest coverage. Smart Postpaid plans also might get it easier for you to pay for this phone. It's a bit on the pricey side because this is a premium phone. Or wait a few months or years so the price goes down, some day, somehow.
