Choosing The Right LED's with Philips

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Saving energy has become of national interest because we all need to do it. In the past few months, the Philippine government is even planning to utilize privately owned corporations' own generators so they wouldn't get anything from the government reserves and work off their own capability to generate electricity, even go the mile of paying for it with the Malampaya gas fund. The government is pro renewable energy but I think there are just not enough private corporations that are building power plants that would be able to save us in the next few years. The crisis is imminent and we all should do our share.

LED Technology has gone leaps and bounds, even surpassing the energy consumption rates of low watt light bulbs and fluorescent lamps. Ms. Fabia Tettero Bueno the country manager for Philips Philippines says, "A power outage can be catastrophic for the economy, we lose the comfort in our homes and the stability of livelihood and business. It will impact all sectors and consequently take the unified efforts of these to prevent it from happening in the future."

Philips is now strongly pushing Filipinos to save energy now by using the right LED's. Together with Philips, Deustche Investitutions und Entwicklungsgesselschaft (DEG) Bank, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), they are holding this #MayMagagawaKa campaign to seek awareness to build urgency in conserving energy in the country. As WWF President and CEO Joel Palma says, "We are consuming way beyond our limits, saving energy is one way of helping to manage the lack of energy. Most of what we use is from fossil fuels and the only way to resolve this is by also lessening the greenhouse gases, it's carbon footprint so it would have lesser impact on climate change". A lot could be done by us too. If we all do our part by lowering temperatures in air conditioning, lesser waste and using the good kind of LED's that not only consume less power, negligible heat and doing something in your own homes.

Greg Yan, the communications officer of WWF also added that we're all using centuries old technology and we are all over drawing our planet. They are pushing for this too because if we switch all existing bulbs into the right LED's we would have saved 70% of energy and would've given lamps to remote areas in the country. They partnered with Philips to retain the quality of life that would improve how we live... They're also spearheading Earth Hour this weekend and assures is, we definitely can do something about it.

The situation is serious and we just lost a lot of power just this last week with the maintenance of Malampaya. We don't have enough energy reserves because the capacity of the plant is 700MW. We need to fill that up by using less electricity and we all can help.

Changing your bulb would be a start. Do you see the need to save energy? Are you using LED's? (It has to be Philips!) We're only half way but converting to non traditional bulbs would save us up to 80% and people are seeing it now! It's also affordable because they've got some as low as Php 150! There are even smart lights now which you can control remotely, or have it in different colors too!

There are even LED tube lamps that you can use and mount in different surfaces. There are a ton of advantages and you just need to know how to get the right LED.

To make sure, you need to make sure of the actual brightness, actual life + guarantee and safety. Philips has even tested their devices with third party corps which attests to the quality of these lamps and bulbs. Switching to LED can really get you to save up to 20% of your electricity. People should start converting to LED now, not on a later date because the lack of power is happening now! Go and change them now and post it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with the hashtags #MayMagagawaKa and #UsingTheRightLED, who knows, you might just win some prizes with that too!

Oh by the way, they've got special edition Team Manila shirts that would be also given away on their Facebook page and other social network accounts. They are also giving this away on leading stores if you purchase LED's from Philips.

Now tell me, how would your life be affected if blackouts would be a regular thing in Manila? Every minute, every second counts. Philips is also pushing for standardization of all electronic devices/the industry. They're starting with yellow stickers now, but they hope this would be done with anything including lighting solutions used inside our homes.

Facebook's Internet.org Partners with Smart's Talk 'N Text!

Internet.org has been put up by Facebook with the goal of putting data be affordable with anyone, any place in the world. During a small event in Blue Leaf Pavilion in Fort Bonifacio, the country's biggest network Smart, through their most affordable network subsidiary Talk'N Text has announced their partnership with Internet.org with the goal of bringing not just affordable rates but free internet access to some of the most popular websites so there wouldn't be more reason not to get connected in the Philippines. This huge undertaking wouldn't be possible if it were not for the willingness of the executives and the people behind Talk'NText and Facebook.

Some of Talk'NText's brightest stars and endorsers were there to witness the occasion. Robin Padilla, Jericho Rosales and the stunning Marian Rivera are just some of them. As of this writing, only Robin and his brother was present.

Chairman of the Board and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan was there too. He's always present in big announcements like these. The tag line is #PanaloAngMayAlam (Those who know are winners!) which exactly reflects that those who have connections, the better informed ones win. A fitting statement that would best reflect their goal, of getting internet connection for 2/3 of the world population that doesn't have internet yet.

Napoleon Nazareno who heads PLDT and Smart says "This is the first internet.org partnership in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. We'll have 24 well chosen websites accesible for a whole year as we boost our "Internet for All" campaign and advocacy to make useful information accesible with Filipinos. We hope more content partners join this mission. There is still a lot of work to do but be assured of our continuing commitment."

This has been launched in Colombia, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, India and Zambia. Markku Makelainen, the Director of Global Partnerships from Facebook says "We are working with operators, content partners and governments all over the world to address the barriers. Now, we're bringing the Internet.org app to the Philippines and give you access to internet services, tools to help create new ideas and opportunities. The potential and brilliance of people is big. We want to focus on awareness and affordability. Poverty should not be an excuse, it should be a right to access the internet to get help in employment, or just living our daily lives."

These are just some of the sites but there's more! All 24 websites will be free on the Internet.org app on Google Play so just text the word INTERNET to 9999. Now, poverty shouldn't be a reason not to get information on the Internet. Searching for tips, education, health, finances and livelihood will be free for a whole year! They are now moving towards the task of getting more people to use the Internet, and with the success of the Free Internet campaign they did a few months ago, this just can go anywhere but up!

Mobile smartphone usage has gone to 30% last year and they expect a huge jump this year. The cost of smartphones will also go down, even TalkNText has packaged it with Android Mobile Phones so in the next few months you'll see even more people in the country using data and perhaps make people appreciate and take relevance to internet connectivity in their lives.

This is Basic Internet Access for all! There's no better news than that!

Greenwich Pizza's Ultimate Bandkada Search

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

I used to be in a band way back in college and I've had so much fun during that time. We didn't have that much of a venue unless we joined local contests back then. We did pop, rock, alternative, and different genres in fact but ended up disbanding because we had to go on with our lives after college. That and because of a girl I think haha TMI.

Anyway,  I heard Greenwich Pizza is holding a search for the Ultimate Bandkada. If you are a band playing pop, rock, hip-hop or EDM, then you are the one they are looking for to win a management contract with Viva Artist Agency and a cash prize of Php 100,000. Sounds good? Well, it is good. All you got to do now is head on over to www.ultimatebandkada.com and sign up your band so you can get the chance to be the Ultimate Bandkada! Make sure you follow the mechanics and qualifications to a T so you wouldn't get disqualified. People can vote for their favorite band too from the months of May to July so your voice can definitely be heard. If you like their performance, your friends can definitely be a factor so you can win the coveted prize! All of the participants will also have to undergo an in house boot camp with some of the Philippines most talented artists so they can hone you to be the best among the bands in this country!

Insurgent on SM Megamall's IMAX

Kate Winslet was super b!tch. (Screenies are not mine. Credit to owners.)

I've watched the prequel and loved every bit of it. It was praised but wasn't marketed enough in the Philippines so there were only a few guys in my circle that was able to catch it. It would be unfair to compare it with The Hungergames franchise because I think it's an entirely different story. The switching to and from dream modes when they get tested is something I'd probably wait for in this installment as I've seen parts of it on the trailer.

You would want to shoot him in the film, a couple of times in fact. (Screenies are not mine. Credit to owners.)

The movie (this sequel) seems to lack sense in some of the scenes and there's a large mis-use on some of the greater stars who ended up just sitting it out in this franchise. Oh and if they were somehow attempting to even score it nearer the Twighlight movie, it ain't going to work because of the story's format. They're out from the caste system to live in the outskirts and stay with farmers, yet later on the testing continued with technological advancements even 3 days after a war. Seeing the other people from other sectors not being up in arms made it nonsense too because it all seemed safe, fine and dandy being there.

His role is pivotal, watch out for what he'll end up doing during the tests. (Screenies are not mine. Credit to owners.)

The love angles and how bitter some of it ended up had us thinking how a truth serum didn't even spark a revenge with one of the bestfriends of your heroine. They didn't get me at the edge of my seat like the first Divergent franchise that much but seeing it in IMAX somehow made the experience a lot better. It would probably feel weird if watched this in a regular theater, or less spectacular. I don't know if you would get satisfied with the swashbuckling, jumping, and fight sequenced content but they are attempting to do that a few times while they were being subdued by the Erodite loyal Dauntless, their trainor, or what's left of it.

You'll hate Kate Winslet even more because after three days from the ending of the Divergent story, she seemed to have done a Ferdinand Marcos martial law kind of thing forcing the board to be in a situation where she can do all sorts of laboratory work just to open a box that she thought would reveal Divergents are the ones causing this pain in their society.

I don't want to spoil the movie for you, but if you would ask me if this is worth watching... DEFINITELY especially if you loved the first movie. I think they're a little bit unfair in some of the movie reviews and flak they're getting on other sites. I can even say I liked it a lot when I almost hated it because the reviews got me into that mindset. Give it a chance to convince you that it had the story done on point. After all, this is fiction. I'd give this 4/5 rating. Though never ever attempt to watch this in regular movie theaters, try the 2D or IMAX version in SM Megamall because it's way better seen with depth. Aside from that, get perks done the right way with the new EPLUS Entertainment Card so you can get freebies, discounts and unbelievable perks watching movies. You can even get 6 Muffins from Kenny Rogers Roasters, 10 percent off on all things in the cinema store, and hotel discounts with just one tap! You can even get one free movie in every five times you watch with SM Cinemas. Just look at what I got! See you at SM!
