Weekend Group Getaway with Azalea Residences Baguio City

Saturday, May 16, 2015

Had the chance to visit Baguio again. This place has its own charm. The people are warm and friendly, you've also got so much food to choose from and if you've got Azalea Residences Baguio as home, you'll learn so much more about the place, the culture and how to keep environmentally responsible whilst conducting huge businesses.

Azalea Residences Baguio is cozy, no frills, a non air conditioned building too. They can keep it that way because of the climate in this part of the country. They also systematically placed fans in rooms so you won't feel hot at all while you're inside. I like it here.

We had dinner at Kalapaw, a small community restaurant that serves authentic Ilocandia dishes. I had the Pinakbet which is stewed vegetables in shrimp paste and pork rind. It was nice but I find the other dishes mediocre at best. It's a buffet, so it's up to you if you want sheer volume over other restaurants. As they say, you get what you pay for.

We also stopped for coffee at Cafe by the Ruins Dua which is their second branch out of 3. I asked for their best seller so this is what I got.

This is their signature Ruins Coffee and their premium croissant. The coffee had different notes on it, probably stirred by the amount of cinnamon or cardamom they had in it. The other breads were good too. Still, the coffee is worth a try.

This is their Ensaymada and Cinnamon Roll. It was a little dry, not as fresh as we expected. Maybe because it was already night time and they baked it in the morning. Still worth the visit though, just for experience sake. I could laud them on the interiors though because they've got art installations as lighting fixtures. Pretty as your next girlfriend.

Then we went thrift shopping that night at Harrison Road where they had unbelievable deals on factory surplus shirts and thrifted products like bags, shoes, coats, jackets and toys. I also had the chance to eat my fave street food since they had them on both sides of the street. It was an amazing night to start our first day in Baguio City.

We went back to our home in Baguio which is Azalea. I had a great night's sleep and prepared for our trips the next day. We loved every bit of it.

Ciao!

New Movie BINHI (The Seed) On Theaters May 20!

We saw this movie a few days ago in Glorietta Cinemas upon invitation of Viva Entertainment Inc. It's called Binhi (The Seed) which stars Joem Bascon, Mercedes Cabral, Kariz Espinosa and Roxanne Barcelo. This is a horror film, very old school, stemming from a family's journey to find work, independence and old friendships from the charming Baguio City where this story is set. This is also directed by Pedring Lopez, a synnergy I guess by Troy Montero's post production company WeLovePost, BlackOps, MFT Group, Haunted Tower and Viva Films.

Joem and Mercedes plays husband and wife who got hooked up renting an enormous house that they got for cheap in a far flung place in Baguio City. Mercedes is also pregnant at that time and needed to take refuge here than in Manila for a simpler and quiet life. Things turn out to be a bit creepy when they started living there. She remained optimistic all throughout until they got to see a ghostly kid popping around the house, their dreams, their everyday lives.

You have to watch this film and make sure you bring your friends, loved ones and see how old school executed pinoy horror flicks are done slightly with cool computer based effects. I must say, I thought I was going to be bored watching another Filipino film but no, this has really good content, story and will make you think about it in the end. I don't want to spoil it for you. Make sure you watch it on theaters come May 20, 2015. The kids were so creepy they even visited us during the premier night LOL!

If you're a little creeped out and if the photos at least sparked your interest, watch the film. It's okay to be frightened every once in a while, good for the heart.

Ciao!

Block Screening Pics Of "Para Sa Hopeless Romantic"

Friday, May 15, 2015

This is the line to the Robinsons Cinema. Crazy right?

I was invited by a blogger friend Iyane of D'Sweetbox who's got friends from the fan clubs of JaDine. They were holding a block screening for their idols James Reid and Nadine Lustre who's starring in the film "Para Sa Hopeless Romantic" which is produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films. It's been a while since I've watched a Fillipino film and this was a treat so I went to the Robinsons Galleria leg and expected a bunch of teens running around crazy for these superb teen stars. I found them very accommodating and nice, going the mile of even having us led to our seats before the film started. The lines were CRAZY. Every one was in a festive and exciting mood because they'll see their idols on silver screen again based from the best selling book of Marcelo Santos III. He's a good chap by the way and we were just a few seats apart. I liked the book and I was somehow expecting the flow of the story to be quite similar in my head.

Direk Andoy Ranay must have really worked the screenplays to impose a lengthy read into a movie, because remember this could only last an hour or more. Aside from that, I had the notion of seeing James and Nadine again as most Star Cinema movies usually have their stars drop by events like these.

They were so nice during our last talk in the Viva Offices, I was really here to see the reactions of the fans seeing the whole story unfold before their eyes. I was right! They all liked it. It was said in a manner where the story didn't veer away from the book with some minor changes. Overall, the movie was really for kicks. Something that would remind you to believe in FOREVER again, if you forgot it along the way. Oh and you'll definitely like the LAST SCENE. I bet a lot would even do that in the next few years, haha!

Anyway, here's some gorgeous photos of James Reid, Nadine Lustre and Marcelo Santos III during the screening. Enjoy!

Mobile Phone Brand Oppo Releases #OppoNewTrio

We got invited by one of the most promising brands of mobile phones and devices in the market that not only gives some of the best hardware that authentically performs well, but has got classy design and undeniable quality at an affordable price. It was staged at the posh Valkyrie, a very upscale club in BGC. Clad in gorgeous creations by renowned Filipino designers, they got three new phones released in one day. They are now catering to a wide audience and dubbed this as the new #OppoNewTrio.

This is the Joy Plus by Oppo. It's comes in two colors, just white and blue. It's dimensions are 4.88 x 2.48 x 0.39 inches and weighs around 125 grams. It's very light, has got 4GB of memory and runs on Android Kitkat. It's also dual SIM, very simple interface and has got a very hard plasticky body. It can probably withstand a drop or more and work just fine by any measure. Since it's 4 inches, it's fits right in your pocket and deem really fit for ladies who just want something practical yet not shabby. It's got the usual ports, wifi BGN standards support and 3.15 megapixel camera with an LED flash. The card slot can accomodate a 32 GB memory card for all those files and music that you may need to fit in this small but high performance phone. It costs only Php 4,990 which is a steal in my books.

This one on the other hand is their Oppo Neo 5. This was released worldwide late last year and finally it has arrived in the Philippines. It's dimensions are 5.20 x 2.59 x 0.36 inches and still can fit easily in my pocket. I've used it for two days and I must say it's a pretty good secondary phone. It is very budget friendly at Php 8,990. A tad bigger than the Joy but the looks can pass as a guy's entry level phone. It runs on Jellybean and has got a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (me thinks?). The front camera is decent for selfies at 2MP and the primary has got 8MP. You also have the option to use it as a hotspot and if you're on SMART's unlimited data plan your friends can share on it too. Both phones have an FM radio so put it on full blast when needed. It also lasts quite a long time, perhaps a day of usage at least (mine lasted around 13 hours). So it's like a brother to the Joy although you're getting a bigger phone with a longer battery life. It's also got two colors I think, black and white.

This is the Oppo R1X. It's exterior is like a gem glistening when struck by lighting. The superb classy exterior comes with a powerful machine inside of it too. It's got a 1.5 Snapdragon 615 Octa Core processor making the thing so fast and responsive. A bit bigger and wider because it's dimensions are 5.54 x 2.76 x 0.27 inches. When I held it in my hand, it felt like was made to fit mine. The super cool back part would really be a crowd pleaser since I haven't seen anything like it yet in other brands. That's definitely something that could stand out the most. It also runs on Android Kitkat and has got a 13MP rear and a 5MP front camera. It's dual sim too but this one can accommodate LTE lines if you need it. You really get cool things from their collection because you pay for it at Php 15,990. I like how it looks definitely. They're like high end Android, in this case and not those cheap ones that just conk out on you after a few months. They're seriously going to be an interesting challenger to existing ones in the market. If you want to be unique and design savvy, go with this one.

Congratulations to Oppo for launching 3 new phones at different price ranges in the market. I hope you get the sales you need to continue coming out with newer handsets. Style wise, the R1X is definitely a stunner!
