A Tempura Lovers Mecca Called Tenya

Monday, July 06, 2015

If you haven't been here, you're missing a lot. This is Tenya, a Japanese Tempura brand that comes straight from Tokyo. In Japan, they're more into specialty shops that serves only one type of dish per restaurant and of course, Tenya boasts to be one of the best places to get your Tempura fix that uses real deal Tiger prawns on their menu. They've got hundreds of branches in Tokyo and nobody could beat them there. Their competitor though only has 5 stores so just imagine how the Japanese have adored this brand since ages ago. Now it's our turn to love them with each bowl as they churn out the best food cooked with the best ingredients from Japan.

We were there in the mid afternoon which is probably the best time to head there because there's less people. The place could probably sit around 50-60 and I'd recommend the seating on the right side of the restaurant as I feel it's a little cozy. They're interiors are neo Japanese, still classic, and not over the board type. They mainly use farm raised wood for the place so it looks clean from all sides and I like the layout. This isn't fine dining so acoustics isn't really a priority, understandable. The ambiance was perfect for fast turnout, they cook really good food and operate much like any fast food outlet. Tempura is the star though, not a burger.

For starters, we had the Isobe Cheese. Think of soft cheddar chunks wrapped around with seaweed then dipped in Japanese batter and fried to a crisp. Kids would love this, everyone around me too. I didn't order this but ended up eating a lot of it because it was good. Really good, and I can say very addicting.

Tenya

This is Tenya's Japanese Style Potato Salad. It's got Kewpie mayo, near mashed potatoes, onions and chopped celery stalks. It's soft and crunchy, creamy too. Not your usual potato salad but it works, and it's very good.

Tenya

This is their Agedashi Tofu. It's a staple in Japanese meals. This one has got Dashi sauce, shaved radish and ginger. It's not just fried tofu you make at home, theirs is lighter, I think it's the batter, and it matters that it rhymes. Hahaha.

This is one of their signature meals, the Asakusa Special Tendon. Tendon is a term they connote for Tempura Donburi or rice bowl. It's got 3 Black Tiger Prawns and crunchy green beans. They cook this fast once you order and it gets more savory with their Dontare sauce drizzled on top. It's good, I almost had a lot of it despite my allergy with seafood LOL.

This set is called the All Star Tempura Soba. You can order this with Udon (warm) or like cold Soba like me. It's also got Black Tiger Prawns, Squid slices, Salmon, Kani Stick, Small Kaikage (vegetable strips), green beans, and mushrooms cooked tempura style.  I am a fan of cold soba and theirs is really good. Though I'd love to have a little crushed ice on my soba before I dip it in the soy based sauce. This was dreamy.

Tenya

To end the meal, they've got these different flavors of Fruity Juicy Pop. It's like our local ice drop (well we don't really have that anymore right?) but done quite nice with Orange Vanilla, Strawberry, Lite Citrus and Coconut Lychee. I must say, you should try them all and ask your friends to share instead of just having one. It's an experience waiting to happen! It's really refreshing for a dessert piece.

If you love Tempura, you should go and visit Tenya at the 4th level of SM Megamall. It's their first branch and their planning to put up more very soon. Our love for Japanese food just got closer to home and it's worth the visit. Don't just stare at my food shots, try it!

An Inspiring Birthday Celebration with Chef Boy Logro

Sunday, July 05, 2015

We went all the way to GMA Cavite at CLICKS (Chef Logro Institute of Culinary and Kitchen Services) to visit the main man himself Chef Boy Logro. It was his birthday, and in order to celebrate it, GMA Artist Center arranged a full blown dessert contest designed to use one of Chef Boy Logro's sponsors Angel Kremdensada.

We've seen the school too and for starters, I felt like the institute would be something that all HRM or food technology professionals could well benefit from because they teach practical cooking, to ultimately be an all around chef like Chef Boy. It's also tasked to teach NCII by the government office of TESDA. In a nutshell, I even wanted to enroll in this school. Chef Boy Logro has this one in GMA Cavite but he's also a larger one in Davao in which he's planning to put up a university to cater to that, farming and hospitality training. The property is around 50 hectares and it's already operating... plus he's got big plans for it soon.

Sun Cellular Asks You to Choose Better

Saturday, July 04, 2015

http://suncellular.com.ph/

It looks like Sun Cellular is going to outpace communications vendor (insert name of other network here) as they have posted double digit growth on percentage for postpaid subscribers this 2015, and it's not even the end of the year yet. Sun Cellular widened their gap with an 18 percent increase whilst the other network meanwhile only stayed around 9 percent increase year on year. Sun Cellular Vice President Joel Lumanlan attributed their growth to feature filled plans that are very affordable, something that countless Filipinos are looking for in a long time. Mr. Lumanlan also adds that they're confident that Sun Cellular will sustain this success of growth and even outpace the other netowrk as they go on and get more products out to empower more pinoys for much better, bigger and affordable services so YOU can choose better!

They're also launching the Choose Better campaign which actually pushes something very simple. At an unbeatable postpaid Plan 450, you get a free Android phone plus tons of network freebies like real unlimited Sun calls and texts, 20 hours of fun mobile surfing, free Facebook and about 250 text messages to other networks! Now how's that package to rethink what you're getting from the other network right? So if you're sick and tired of the fluff, all the mumbo jumbo they promise that you're not even getting or using but end up paying for it, it's high time you re-think your choices and choose the perfect plan that fits your lifestyle without breaking the bank!

Which reminds me, Sun Cellular also has Super Loaded Call and Text Unlimited 100 for prepaid subscribers which can get you unlimited calls to Sun, Smart and Talk N Text plus unlimited texts to other networks and 100 MB of data good for 7 days all for that price. If you're using Sun Broadband connections (like most of my friends) then you can take advantage of Non Stop Surf Plan 450 that's got nonstop surfing, 1GB more for data streaming, and 1GB more for music streaming for the lovely Spinnr app that we all love! If you prefer a cheaper one, there's Non Stop Surf 25 which can get you 50 MB of data to surf, 25 MB more for heavy data usage, plus 300 MB worth of Spinnr content which can be valid for 1 whole day!

Now you can see what's the reason they want you to choose better. It's one of the reasons why they're the fastest growing postpaid brand in 2014 and they're giving you MORE reasons to switch now. You just need to think if your still with Globe (oops!) and if they're giving you your money's worth! The choice is easy, because it's here! Ask yourself again, does your postpaid plan give you the best value? You know the answer.

Kiko Estrada's Birthday with Undernourished Kids

Wednesday, July 01, 2015

Kiko Estrada
It's Kiko Estrada's birthday and GMA Artist Center knew exactly how he wanted to celebrate it. We went to Pook Amorsolo in Brgy. UP Campus in Quezon City and had around 200 malnourished kids from nearby communities so he could spend time with them, play games, give nutritious food as well. To help with the cause, the good people from Philrice also gave the kids organic brown rice and had Pandelton (producer of baked goods) donate 2 weeks worth of special moringa bread for the kids. It's so nice to see even the volunteer employee organization of GMA called GMA GIVES also helped to manage the activities together with GMA Artist Center.

The kids also had fun with comedienne Tess Bomb hosting the event and it was nice to see the kids faces light up whenever she cracks a joke or two during the morning. These kids are from different communities and their respective health organizations monitor the kids weight and take the initiative to see if they're actually improving their health. Growth stunting is prevalent in kids in the Philippines and to be able to be more tall and healthy, they need the right amount of nutrition that they can get from supplements or food. I saw some really small kids, thin ones in the crowd and I fear these are exactly the ones that shouldn't happen when they're still in the stage of growing up. We all know we need to see them in their full potential, I even saw Kiko and gorgeous Kim Rodriguez help get metrics from some of the kids.
