Barbie Forteza: A Meaningful 18th Birthday Celebration

Friday, August 21, 2015

I was in the same place when Barbie Forteza celebrated her birthday party last year and she's at it again. When asked about how to celebrate her debut, she uttered "I am so happy, I am excited to turn 18 but can I wish for something? I don't want to have a party!" which started us to get interested how she wants to do it last July 31. Barbie wanted to use the money to celebrate for other meaningful things so she did the deed by going to Philippine Children’s Medical Center again, although this time, she's participating in the “Adopt-A-Room” program of the said hospital.

Kids here have a special place in Barbie's heart. She's actually been doing this in the last 4 years and with the program she could adopt a room, then transform and renovate it into a special private room. The proceeds of the room will go to the PCMC charity rooms on a continued basis so it could help countless children in charity cases, something she's always wished for every time she's here.

The project is still on going and Barbie's adopted room is still being worked on with the help of Architects Jose Ricky Martinez and Richie Ongteco. GMA Artist Center has also helped with the arrangements as usual. Barbie Forteza is officially the first celebrity to do this because the other rooms in the hospital were adopted by private institutions and brands. This is an opportunity that she says is very thankful for.

Barbie Forteza was also joined by her friends and fellow Kapuso artists Krystal Reyes and Thea Tolentino. She was also very thankful that they were there to help her give joy and gifts for the kids.

Barbie also joined in entertaining the kids of PCMC, a puppet show, gift giving and snacks were served. Barbie Forteza thanked her sponsors BNY, Unisilver Time, Posh Nails, Flawless, BS Mobile, Fruitas, Belladona Bags, Boysen Paint, Happy Haus Donuts, Pizza Pedricos, Kettle Korn, JC Catering, Cris-Carl Stuffed Toys, Megasoft Diapers, Muebles De Cristina Furniture, Fernando’s Bakeshop, Aquabest, Chocovron, Ritz Biscuits, Jao Ming Glutathione, RPKreativ, Dove and Fresh Look Contact Lenses for also chipping in on the renovation costs and giveaways during the small event.

This celebration was definitely meaningful, no wonder she's so blessed and still continue to be in GMA top rater Half Sisters. Stay humble and sweet Barbie!

Smart’s Data Explosion in 2015

Thursday, August 20, 2015

Smart has definitely paved ways for Filipinos to enjoy their mobile services. With the recent promos including Free Data use, iFlix and Fox, Pinoys have been exposed and continue to love living the #SmartLife. All along, they want you to use your non connected smartphones. As they mentioned during the launch of Free Internet in the past, a lot of people have these smartphones but don't actually use Internet connection or data on it. Makes sense right?

EVP and Head of Consumer Business at Smart Ariel P. Fermin  says "This ‘data explosion’ actually all started when we introduced our ground breaking ‘FREE Internet’ promo last year. This offer aimed to give our subscribers an opportunity to try out various Internet and digital services, most of them haven't even done so in years. We see this continue this 2015 and we'll get more engaging content and digital services coupled with very affordable data service bundles so you can get the #SmartLife we've been talking about."

Let's talk numbers:

There's a 170% increase of mobile data traffic that passes through Smart’s mobile network. That is just for the first half of the year.

PLDT also announced about 21%, that's equal to P4.7 billion of revenue in their mobile subsidiaries during the first six months of 2015.

To also become their preferred digital services provider, they got $100 Million as capital expenditure to acquire and co-develop more services to serve the needs of digital consumers like you.

iFlix is the fastest growing Internet streaming service in Southeast Asia. It's got a 150,000 subscribers in less than three months which includes me. PLDT invested $15 million in iflix to capture this digital market. I've been watching Attack of the Titans on Anime by the way and it's super nice! Add to that FOX International Channels for live TV streaming and soon their own library so you can catch up on those zombie series you love!

Smartphone penetration in Smart and Sun networks stands at 35% and they see this also growing in the next few quarters. Isn't that just good news?

Now, they're designing more prepaid and postpaid offers that would fit your lifestyle. Choose better, choose to live a Smart Life!

Easy Fruita Cake Using Goldilocks Cake Slices

It's a sunny afternoon and I wanted to have merienda. It's that "snack time" excuse we Filipinos have so could get something in between lunch and dinner. It makes sense, but it's really daunting to sometimes cook when you've got no facilities in the office, or a big budget to work with. I wanted to have Crema de Fruta since I've been craving for it for several weeks now. You can but it off the shelf but it's a tad pricey. Aside from that, I always thought I could make my own version of it without even cooking on a stove (which is a Man's nightmare by the way when in the kitchen). I needed to prove that I can do it so I did the next best thing, I cooked it today. This is what I'll call Easy Fruita Cake.

Here are the ingredients:

1 pack powdered gelatin (flavored or unflavored, up to you!)
6 cups water (or whatever is indicated in gelatin pack directions)
1 Pack Cream
1 Pack condensed milk
6 pieces Goldilocks Cake Slices
- You can choose among the variants Golden Butter Cake Slice, Chiffon Cake Slice, Heavenly Chocolate Cake Slice, Double Dutch Cake Slice, Heavenly Marble Cake Slice, Mocha Marble Cake Slice or the Sugar Free Chocolate Cake Slice

Goldilocks Cake Slices
I bought an entire Bitbit Pack from Goldilocks for this occasion because even if I don't use the entire thing, I could always make these convenient slices my baon when I'm out covering events!
Goldilocks Cake Slices
A medium sized can of Fruit Cocktail would do, don't get the super big one because this is merienda not a Fiesta LOL! Or if you're into healthy stuff, you can always cut up your favorite fruits in season.

Goldilocks Cake Slices
You can probably tell I like things sweet. If you're not a measuring genius, just a bricks of each would do.

Goldilocks Cake Slices
One gelatin pack can get you about 6 cups worth of this. Don't think it's too much because part of it will be absorbed by the cake you're going to put in on this sweet treat! Make sure you also reserve some of it so you can mix it with the cream and condensed milk later
Goldilocks Cake Slices
This is the Double Licious Chiffon Cake Slice by Goldilocks. If you guys a more toned down cake, you can order several of these. If you're like me who have several people at home that have different flavor preferences, you can mix it up like what I'm doing in this recipe.

Goldilocks Cake Slices
The Double Dutch Cake Slice is my personal favorite among the different flavors that Goldilocks has.

Goldilocks Cake Slices
For the people who love a hint of coffee, the Mocha Marble Cake Slice is the better choice.
Goldilocks Cake Slices
I wanted people to be surprised when they dig in on this Easy Fruita Cake so I used the three flavors in one recipe.

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, put in 6 cups of water and pour in the unflavored gelatin powder mix. Mix it thoroughly. Put your microwave on a high setting and wait for the thing to boil. That usually takes like 3-5 minutes.

2. In a container, put in your cake slices so it would fit the bottom. This will serve as your cake base.

3. After taking out the hot gelatin from the microwave oven, pour in 3/4 of it on the container where you put in the cake. While it's soaking, put it in the freezer for a 5 minutes so it forms your base.

4. On a separate bowl, mix in your all purpose cream, the condensed milk and the gelatin. Remember to mix it thoroughly. Put in some of the fruits in it too.

5.  Take out your cake base from the freezer then pour the cream and milk mixture over it.

6. Put it again inside the freezer for an hour or two. Scoop or slice it out on serving bowls or plates and make sure you get part of the cake and the top when serving. The contrast between the cake, the fruits and chocolate is awesome! Enjoy!

Here's a video on how I made it!

This is affordable, very easy to make and would be perfect for your afternoon snack. It's still hot outside right? Having something sweet, frozen and fruity is just the next best thing. It's also easy because I just bought cakes from Goldilocks. You should start dreaming about your next meal and ask yourself why you're not getting Goldilocks Cake Slices today. It doesn't take a genius!

Sweet Dreams with Elica

We're now in Ascott BGC for the press conference of ELICA, Bayer Philippines' product that deals with Eczema. It was also a fun morning because we were there with their endorsers Team Kramer. I'm so in love with their kids!

Elica is the most prescribed solution for Eczema and if you're still oblivious about the condition, it's when skin becomes rough, inflamed and bleeding. It's not a joke and I've seen some of the worst cases in hospitals and clinics. Sometimes pinoys tend to brush it off and think they can take care of it and only consider going to the doctor when it's already so miserable that it would be hard to heal.

Mometasone Furoate Elica is a topical cream that you can use to heal swelling, itching and redness caused by Eczema. It is a moderately strengthed steroid designed to boost your metabolism to help in the healing process. If you get irritation just like any other brand, you still must consult your doctor.

This is also used to treat psoriasis, so you can tell this is the more potent kind of medication. According to Cheska Kramer "I really got worried when Scarlet got Eczema, but we used Elica on her skin and almost all the problems went away after 24 hours of using the cream. Scarlet wants to sit beside teddy bears and it is a little hot and sometimes Eczema is caused by perspiration. The first time we used this with Kendra, I noticed they all had sensitive skin but Scarlet was the most affected and had red itchy patches back then. She gets it easily, it made her very irritable and she scratches it, cry afterwards. You want your children to only have the best and take care of them. We are very careful with our daughters, we don't want them to blame mommy later on if we didn't take care of their skin. In a few minutes, it's not as itchy, not as red, and I'm so glad it doesn't happen in their face but my pedia recommended this the first time we visited them. Despite the fact that she's shy, she's very happy now and they still sleep beside us and we don't hesitate flooding them with kisses and put them in bed. It doesn't matter what voice they hear now, but I sing them to sleep and they stay loved everyday!"

Mothers should always know what to do when they need to take care of their children's skin and you'll be glad that eczema is treatable. Ask your doctor about Elica.
