Jennylyn Mercado Talks About My Faithful Husband and Prenup

Monday, September 07, 2015

She's been dubbed as the most successful Starstruck Ultimate Survivor and with great reason. She's an accomplished and multi awarded actress, she's got the admiration of her peers and thousands of her fans, she's got tons of TV shows and multiple blockbuster films to her belt, she's also got several successful albums and hit songs, theme songs, even heard on several shows on GMA, she's got a flourishing love life (I guess it shows), and a really good looking son Alex who's equally proud of his Mom because she's stunning, and beautiful inside out, she's no other than the gorgeous Jennylyn Mercado.

We visited her on the set of her latest soap My Faithful Husband where she plays the role of Melanie Hernandez, a not so faithful wife which might stir the normal stories in this genre because this time it's not the husband that is philandering. We asked her about Dennis as a co-actor and she says "He's a very simple guy, very quiet, but a bit pressured about the role much like JM who stars in the movie I'm making for the MMFF. JM's fun but when he steps on the set you'll really get a little scared and I always thought he was a intimidating because he's got all his lines memorized, and I couldn't even do that well with memorizing scripts so I get pressured when he comes in for the shoot. They really are great actors. I needed to do double the effort just to memorize stuff but I guess I'm doing fine.

I hope we also get rewarded for the work we put out for this soap we're doing. My favorite scenes so far are the ones where I always correct the small grammar lapses, small things that Emman (played by Dennis Trillo) makes, I find it very cute and even use our terms of endearment Papaw. I remember the time he said that it'll snow in the Philippines and I had to explain that we're near the equator, things like that; and the part I had to let some of it go because it's on his persona to be clumsy of sorts. We know we've got tough competition and we're doing our best at work, like we always do! We hope people would appreciate that."

"Oh by the way, before you guys do see my MMFF entry, please do support my upcoming movie Prenup! I love the story because neither one of us actually look alike. Ella Cruz won't be just twerking her because she'll play the role of a tomboy, Melai Cantiveros will be playing a woman who got a little too happy with the boys so she's got tons of kids already, she's even got tons of guys still that she's dating while I on the other hand will be a little choosy, someone who's been single since birth. It'll be hilarious because even when we're shooting the scenes, we're already expecting people to have fun with the film. I'm also excited for that!" Jennylyn adds.

My Faithful Husband shows at 9:20 PM on GMA's Primetime slot so if you want to watch one of the Philippines most talented actresses, you better catch Jennylyn Mercado this evening. The story is getting exciting now that Emman knows what Mel has been doing, oh yes they got caught! They've just broken up so if you want to know what will happen next, you know where to find them! This soap is directed by the one and only Bb. Joyce Bernal. Shall we?

Mike Tan For Regal Film's No Boyfriend Since Birth

Sunday, September 06, 2015

Mike Tan is a breath of fresh air. Whenever we meet him, he talks straight, no holds barred, unadulterated and real. We actually like that about this guy, because as much as we love other stars, they tend to keep a lot for themselves and leave us imagining things to write about. Mike is like a friend who you never get to see for years and when you do meet, you feel like it was just yesterday. Aside from that, he's very modest, quite humble and doesn't make you feel alienated, a trait that would make you feel indifferent when you're around them.

I've had the chance to interview Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana in the past for the movie No Boyfriend Since Birth under Regal Films. They've already finished filming but as of this interview, Mike Tan says they don't have a fixed play date yet. It's Directed by Joey Reyes who's pretty much done several hits with the same outfit. Mike says Direk Joey always finishes his shoots quite early and if he says they'll end at 8, expect that it'll be on the dot.

In playing the character of Carlo, it wasn't really hard for him to fit the role because he's portrayed several personas that have been very complicated. Whether on TV or in film, he does them all exceeding expectations and I might say, quite convincingly. In this project, he is the third wheel so you can imagine how awkward it would be if Tom Rodriguez would have a scene with Mike Tan and Carla Abellana. The material as Mike says is very funny and light but there would be several instances where this masterpiece by Noreen Capili (who also wrote Bagito in ABSCBN) become mighty problematic for the lives of Tom's character as Mike's going to give him a fight to get to Carla. During the final scene, Mike was also included in the last shot but he got tied up with several provincial shows and didn't get to be in the set for that scene. He felt later on that it might just have been a good thing because it would have been too awkward for an EX to be there and witness a former lover's wedding, doubly more if it was Carla was the one expecting to get back with the guy after 10 years. There's going to be a lot more revelations when the playdate comes,  so make sure you don't miss No Boyfriend Since Birth as it shows on theaters very soon. He also adds "It's been a while since I've done a movie, let alone something that I'd want people to watch. The last one of which was Manay Po 2, and I'm looking forward to do more soaps, indie films and more of these soon!" then he also talked about the new sport he's crazy about, which is Aquathlon.

Mike Tan is currently training for an Aquathlon which is an event that would require him to do a swim course, then run several kilometers after that. It's painful, it's not for the faint of heart but he's been pushed by his friends to try it out - and he's seriously training for it. Mind you, an official Aquathlon/Aquathon is done on two stages, you have to do a 1000 m swim then transition to a 2.5 km run. No wonder he's still got those abs and sculptured physique! He's really ripped! I guess he's really worked hard for it, and it shows.

This good looking guy is going to make you think, make you hope and dream once No Boyfriend Since Birth shows on theaters in the last quarter of this year. There's no play date yet, but I'm looking forward to see it on the big screen after Regal Film's Resureksyon and perhaps before Prenup which are gearing to be good hits in the box office, hopefully VERY soon!

Congratulations Mike Tan! You deserve all these projects you're getting!

Mustache Fun at 7-Eleven: #LetsSLURPfie

Waaaahhhhhhhhh!

That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this photo. Back in highschool, my friends would tease me because I looked like that guy who had a brain freeze in that Slurpee commercial. This time, they're taking that same Slurpee experience to another level by releasing a one of a kind, limited edition Slurpee Mustache Straws that people can collect and enjoy together with their favorite Slurpee flavors in every 7-Eleven Store. Oh and yes, they come in different, quirky designs!

Having been introduced in the 1950s, the Slurpee was just an accidental creation of Omar Knedly as it was born from a broken soda fountain. They called it “Icee” back then and our favorite 7-Eleven named it “Slurpee” during the 1960s so it could be young and catchy with consumers in that decade. Now, you can see Slurpee in all 7-Eleven stores nationwide and since 1984, Filipinos have been loving Slurpee's classic flavors like Fuji Apple, Raspberry and Bubblegum. There are special flavors too every season like the Classic Cola Blast the favorite sweet and tangy Watermelon Lime which most stores have.

For the mustache, you just need to add Php 49 so you could get one. Just choose any design when you purchase any size of Slurpee. What they do nowadays is after they grab Slurpees with the Slurpee Mustache Straw, they post it on Instagram donning their best bigote pose. Use the hashtag #LetsSLURPfie and find out what wacky things people are doing with this fun item! Check out the hashtag on Instagram to find out who’s gotten into the mustache craze! They must be tons of people already having fun with it! I might just do the same and get it when I visit the branch near me. Let's all do the #LetsSLURPfie!

Gilas Cadets, UAAP Standouts for SMART Elite UAAP and an Exclusive Interview with UE Red Warrior Paul Varilla

Saturday, September 05, 2015

It's UAAP Season 78 and what better way to celebrate it but by recognizing the best of the best players  as SMART the country's biggest network launches Smart Elite-UAAP in Makati. After being in the midst of their counterparts in the NCAA we were only expecting the best players included in this mix and we were eagerly waiting for the names announced that afternoon. We were not disappointed!

Mr. Epok Quimpo, Smart's Sports Senior Manager says "We have tennis, we have badminton, we have football, and Smart has been sternly supporting a lot of sports and come to think of it, why do we have to do a Smart Elite launch? Basically our goal is to impart to the Filipinos how to live a Smart Life. When we say living the Smart Life, it means touching on our passion points. Passion points like entertainment, leisure, travel, you post where you go, like Jordan Clarkson who went to Boracay and his girlfriend a Victoria Secret Angel, she posted a photo in a paraw, she really fell in love with the place. Boom, TJ, and I love international games, we want Filipinos to experience this passion across the nation and we're here to introduce several UAAP standouts in promoting and doing this. We invite everyone to support the athletes in promoting the LOVE for the sport, for the game of basketball. This will inspire kids, the high school, college basketball teams and hopefully represent the country in the international level."

They came out one by one and it was nice to see Gilas cadets Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo De Manila, Kevin Ferrer of UST, Mark Belo of FEU, Gelo Alolino of National University and Prince Rivero of De La Salle University. They are also joined by UAAP standouts Von Pessumal of ADMU, Jette Manuel of UP, Dawn Ochea of Adamson University (he came after practice!) and Paul Varilla of my alma mater University of the East.

Now we didn't get to see Paul Varilla because he had practice schedules that morning so we did the next best thing and asked him questions online. Paul says "I want to thank Smart for selecting me and giving me an opportunity to represent them the best I can. I feel honored to be apart of the Smart Elite team and alongside the other UAAP players. My brother and I use Smart's pocket wifi when we are out and about. I use it every night to connect and chat with my parents abroad. I use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram mostly. I am really looking forward to use Spinnr! For those who want to get in touch, my IG and Twitter handle is @PuffeeP or they can just search for Paul Varilla. I forgot to mention that I do watch a lot of YouTube as well haha! I tried to use streaming accounts from the US but it doesn't stream out here. I've just recently heard of iFlix and I'll check that out for sure! Aw man now it hurts more that I wasn't there haha. I really wish I was in the launch, my apologies but my priorities with the team had to come first in preparation for the first game!" then we exchanged pleasantries.

With Smart's widest coverage, UAAP fans including me will continue to address digital needs by catching games wherever we are in the country. Using our smart phones, Smart, PLDT Home will bring more Filipinos closer to the games and their passion. The players all are heavy internet users, Kiefer and Mac even mentioned how they love Spinnr and iFlix too. Von and Dawn also uses Smart Bro in their quarters so after a game they would be able to get in touch with their families wherever they are, and says it's very convenient since they play in their respective schools and Smart Araneta Coliseum.

For those who want to win make sure you visit the SMART Life booths in the Smart Araneta Coliseum today so you can get the chance to get phones and gadgets unlike those fake Facebook pages I saw yesterday, don't fall for that by the way!.

I'll be at the SMART Araneta Coliseum later to watch the UE Red Warriors battle it out with UP Fighting Maroons. I'm rooting for my alma mater as usual because I'm a full blooded warrior but I'll be cheering for the whole Smart Elite Team too of course. They've done the country proud and even inspired thousands of students, hopefully convert them all to live the Smart Life!
