It's My City: Quezon City on it's Diamond Jubilee

Monday, October 05, 2015

I've lived in this city my whole life. A dream actually sparked its inception when Manuel L. Quezon thought of putting all the government agencies, several residential and housing projects in one place. This is Quezon City - and we're celebrating it's 75th year with a grand Diamond Jubilee celebration. The local government kicked it off a few days ago in Quezon City Memorial Circle.

The New Manila house of the great former president now has an exact replica at the QCMC grounds and sits right across the Quezon City Hall. It's accessible via the underpass right in front of it. It's called the Quezon Heritage House and it'll serve as a museum to house memorabilia and tours from hereon.

Aside from these new structures, there will be several events in various places inside the city that you should watch out for. Tomorrow October 6 til October 9 is the start of Quezon City International Pink Festival which will happen in Gateway Mall Cinema 1. Today until the 11th, Novena masses will be done in the QC Hall lobby every 12 noon dedicated to QC's patron Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of La Naval Manila. The state of the city address with Mayor Herbert Bautista will be on October 12 at the Carlos Albert Hall in Quezon City Hall. On the 19th is the Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal Night where the city's most outstanding citizens will be awarded at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Diamond Jubilee Mardi Gras where you can see 500 costumed festival dancers from all over the Philippines in a parade right in Tomas Morato (I'll be there btw!). Plus the QC Grand Parade of Lights from 7PM to 11PM on the same day. The same parade of lights will take a different route on October 11 and will culminate un a QCROCKS@75 celebration in Quezon Memorial Circle where they'll put up a stage where Parokya ni Edgar, Rocksteddy, stand up comedians and various artists to end the night. We'll be posting live updates for that btw! So follow kumagcow on twitter, instagram, facebook and youtube!

We also did a photoshoot during the event last week and we can't wait to tell you more about my city! Are you guys excited?! I know I am! :)

Felix Manalo's World Premier and Guinness World Record Attempt

We're in Ciudad Victoria in Bocaue Bulacan for the world premier and world record attempt for the largest audience for a film screening for Viva's Felix Manalo. The lead role of the INC Founder got into the hands of one of GMA's prime leading men Dennis Trillo. It's heavily supported by the sect Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) who's got quite a ton of members so they're assured of an audience already. Apart from that, this might be a good engine to tell the sect's story to the ordinary juan as it hits theaters this coming week.

They weren't joking when they prepared for this as the Philippine Arena was almost full to the brim. I have to say, I'm not part of them and was just here to look at how the movie would fare in my pov.

This is 3 years in the making, a film directed by Joel Lamangan. Stars include Xyriel Manabat, JC Parker, AJ Mulach, Alan Paule, Andrea Del Rosario, Carla Humphries, Jon Lucas, Mike Magat, Lloyd Samartino, Ruby Ruiz, Tony De Mesa, Ruru Madrid, Boy2 Quizon, Regine Angeles, Gladys Reyes (who was heavily cheered!), Gabby Concepcion, among others. Gladys quipped "This is it, at last, we will witness the premier of Felix Manalo. Thank you to all our brothers and sisters from different locales, and even those that are here to support our film, thank you so much!"

Dennis researched, believed and personified Felix Manalo and said they were well guided to do this role. He also wished people would get to watch the film not just today, but in the coming weeks when it comes out of theaters.

Nadine Lustre, noted Viva artist was also there to support the movie.

Basil Valdez did Ngayon at Kailanman and Kastilyong Buhangin bringing nostalgia inside the venue.

After the premier, the representatives from Guinness World Records confirmed there are about 3 more that will be broken today, the largest indoor screen, the largest crowd for a premier and the largest crowd for a Film Screening. This will make the existing 8 Iglesia ni Cristo world records into 11 by the end of the night.

As for the movie, it's a period film and production wise, it looks very well made. His childhood, the history of the Philippines in between his studies, of his stern and eager thirst for religion and it's understanding, was but very clear til his teen years.

You might get interested with it's origins, reasons for the lead actor's inquisitive state. In my understanding, it's a good watch if you're after the story but it could also make you question a lot of things if you're a little inquisitive too about your faith. Well, it can likewise be a tool for many things, the film can really make you think which is probably it's main purpose. Dennis did his job well, that alone made me watch this even if I'm not part of their sect. As for believing their religion, it's another story. Worthy to watch, I give it about a 7/10. I specifically didn't like the sepia treatment, some of the chroma war scenes, the manner of talk for me was also a tad bit unrealistic, I like the love angles (especially Bella Padilla who plays Honorata), the conflicts in faith would be a touchy thing to talk about but what this gives you is room to analyze if you're watching fact or fiction, because that's where you'll be the judge, like a personal judgement thing if you can say that.

Felix Manalo starts showing on theaters this October 7, 2015. INC or not, watch it. It makes the named characters humane, and might make you understand why they are, who "they" are. It's complicated enough for you to make your own studies, might not be too simple to understand for ordinary individuals so like anything, take it with a grain of salt.

Watch it for Dennis Trillo, watch it for the story, but just like any other film, learn to analyze. I should also warn you it is a lengthy film at approximately 3hours. I believe this would be good for ages 13 and above so they could at least fend for themselves when they see it.

Let's see if we can interview Dennis after the movie.

PS, they have broken 2 new records officially tonight!

Videos of Glaiza De Castro for Dreams Never End Concert

Sunday, October 04, 2015

We went to Music Museum last night to witness the concert of Glaiza De Castro entitled Dreams Never End. It's a project that she, her family, her friends have been working on for quite some time now and this is officially her first major concert. Singing is her first love. We've been waiting for this a long time and let me tell you, even for a non concert goer like me, I'd like to say that I really did enjoy what I saw last night.

She's got some of her favorite songs, originals that came from her album and a few numbers together with other artists like Kitchie Nadal, Cookie Chua, JayR, Rhian Ramos and Ms. Regine Velasquez Alcasid. I specifically like when she sang Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins, sort of an homage to alternative and 90's music.

Here are some excerpts from her concert:

I've known Glaiza for quite some time now and have really seen her journey, her hardships and know some of the details on how to put up this concert. It's not as easy as it looks, but overall, her fans loved it, I loved it, her friends and family loved it and she was happy. The performances were great, the guests were all incredible and even some of her friends joined in on the singing part (Say hello to Quark Henares, Gabby Eigenmann and Ketchup Eusebio). Watch out for this Concert as it will be shown on GMA 7 very soon.

Here's an interview of Glaiza De Castro right after the show. Try not to tear up if you're a big fan!

Also, don't forget to buy her Gold album SYNTHESIS which is already out on stores and major record bars nationwide!

Again, congratulations dear Glaiza! Couldn't be more proud of you!
