Say "Ein Prost!" At The 78th Oktoberfest At Sofitel Manila

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Gentlemen from The German Club Philippines and GM of Sofitel Manila Mr. Adam Laker (in suit).

There's no party when you're alone, but when you party with about 200 people merrymaking on top of tables and chairs with tons of food and beer, that's what you call OKTOBERFEST!

The German Club is celebrating their 78th Oktoberfest in Sofitel Manila and the most authentic one at that. In Munich, at 12 PM of the first Saturday of October, they start a ceremonial toast and they give the first pint to the Prime Minister of Bavaria. They did it too in Sofitel to start the ceremonies.

Sofitel's GM Adam Laker promises Germans and Filipinos will enjoy a full Bavarian Menu, tons of Sausages and Pork Knuckles, the best Saurkraut and each year it gets better. Different games, parties, it's also the people that gets this a larger crowd each year. No leather pants required but of course it's optional!

I even joined a game with contestants from the German community and press people, I won. I won last 2014 and didn't join 2015 (because I was too shy LOL), but it's good I got this one in the bag!
Fellow bloggers, writers from Manila's best magazines and influencers are all in attendance. I was already tipsy at this time from chugging a whole liter of beer for the Philippines haha!
This year's OKTOBERFEST will happen at Sofitel Manila's Harbor Tent on October 7 and 8! This is their 78th Year which only shows this has been a LONG tradition. You may book your tickets via email at reservations@germanclub.ph. You can also call (02) 894 2899. I assure you, this is one of the best parties, a legit Oktoberfest at that. Dance, drink all evening, enjoy the best Bavarian dishes, sausages, pretzels and the company of Germans who chose to work and live here in Manila and say EIN PROSIT!

To end this post, let me share my blogger friend Azrael's video of the event featuring me in the Beer Drinking Contest! Hahah don't judge!

The Great American Burger Joint

Monday, September 12, 2016

I haven't been able to go to SM Supercenter Pasig for ages and a lot has definitely changed in a couple of years. I used to work in the nearby Eastwood district but have left and never looked back. Now I miss a lot of things especially the lovely food I used to enjoy after office hours or when I can grab a quick lunch. See, there's this place inside the SM Supercenter Pasig called The Great American Burger Joint (or you can call it The Burger Joint). Although they've got good name recall I haven't really heard of them yet or what they have to offer. Being a huge burger lover myself, it just was music to my ears to hear that they have huge servings of lovely, legit American Beef burgers. It's a dream to actually have something done right and this might be a good spot to have that.

The Burger Joint (as what most people call the place) is a child project of entrepreneur partners and Chef Allan Geonzon who are veterans of the Food Truck scene in the US. They brought the love for food in the Philippines and felt this was the opportune time to introduce great American food to the market. We love it to start with, but having great servings at very friendly prices is not a common sight in restaurants in Manila. Since it's placed near the Tiendesitas area, office workers, dog lovers, and families would probably benefit from having The Great American Burger Joint in this location. It's a bit of a drive from GMA QC area but they've got tons of things to make you feel the trip to the East of Manila worth it.

Loaded Nachos - You've got a heaping serving of crunchy nachos topped with premium ground beef, chili, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, tons of cheese, parsley and Watermelon salsa. It's a fresh take on the usual beer chow and you're going to love the bits of watermelon in the mix. It made the thing be a bit on the sweet side, perfect for those who wish to have something to munch while talking amongst friends and family. It's filling, and you'll feel you're not shortchanged pricewise, and sizewise.

The Southwestern Burger - This is my personal favorite. It's got caramelized onions, grilled beef patty, melted cheese and a very deep smoky flavor. If I were to choose something that you should try, it would definitely be this.

Juicy Lucy - When you've got a dream burger, it usually starts like this. For an all American, mouthwatering, jaw dropping experience, you should try the Juicy Lucy. It's got a half pound beef patty stuffed with cheese inside, then topped with cheese sauce, their house sauce, Bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and onions. It's good, huge, totally worth every penny.

The WTF Burger - If you can dream it, they can build it. It's a burger with almost everything on it. Imagine two quarter pound Angus patties, double serving of bacon, double cheese, plus a beer battered tomato slab on top. They also put a freshly baked potato chip and a special home made garlic aioli. If that was a mouthful to describe, it's a challenge to just take a bite but who's stopping you?

The Buffalo Classic - I love it old school. It's the classic Buffalo wings that's tangy and hot. They also bring it out fresh, tossed lightly right after a session with the fryer. Their sour cream was just the best thing for it too. Order a Maltshake to hose it down as it really would bite you. I'd go back for this too!

The Burger Joint also had us try their home made Maltshakes. It's thick and creamy. They also used cakes, cookies, berries, salted pretzels, marshmallows, local chocolates, imported ones just to make it your dream drink. They had us try these even if it wasn't in the menu yet so YOU have a lot to look forward to in a couple of months. I loved the last one the most as it's like a circus, pretty colorful and they used the local chocolates quite well in the drink. I won't mind going back just for that.

So go and visit them today at The Great American Burger Joint in SM Supercenter Pasig. They are on the right side of the building right across Transcom. It's also accessible from C5 so just come up Tiendesitas for parking then walk across the street, it's there. The burgers here are good, pretty messy when you eat, but that's exactly what you need to experience when you want a great burger. They're certainly not holding back on flavor, ingredients and if you're looking for something new, you might regret NOT going there!

Honda Philippines Launches CBR 150R

Sunday, September 11, 2016

Suzuki Mitsugishi welcomed us to the Honda Gen S Red Zone in BGC. He says "Our product, people and customers are important and we hope to continue to inspire more as the leader in the region. We are proud to launch the new sports bikes, it will be something that Filipinos would love to have. The race track is our testing ground and we won't put out something that doesn't pass that."

They added "The Gen S is for our customers that is more sporty and is looking for a more efficient motor. The joy of handling is what we look for in a bike, plus higher displacement, brute power, and be at a pocket friendly price. The ride can control engine power when needed, the CDR is improved maneuverability and styling. It's the weight reduction and mass centralization, strong but lightweight, reduced engine vibration and improved seat design, where you can get strong torque. The DOGC 6 speed engine is on a class leading performance, from low to mid and high end. It's also styled differently among other sports bikes."

Our motorbike sales in the Philippines has increased and we are at levels with India, Thailand and Indonesia. CBR150R is intended for the younger generation and Honda Philippines has been working hard to come out with new sports models to fit their lifestyle. It costs Php 150,000 (the black one), Php 152,000 (the red one) and Php 155,000 (for the orange one).

It's so nice I want one! It's a bit pricey but I think they've got installment plans for this. Just go to your friendly dealers today!

Greenwich Ultimate Bandkada Search Season 2

Saturday, September 10, 2016

Hey Greenwich fans! The lovely pizza company just recently concluded their Ultimate Bandkada Search Season 2. I was there with a few blogger friends to see who's gonna win in the second installment. I had my favorites, but of course we're not going to divulge that yet. We have to see them perform LIVE and on stage!

Last year's winner B-Boys also performed. They've been touring around the Philippines to promote themselves and the brand. They did good, but now it's time for 8 bands to fight it off on stage.

The ACE FORM, HAPPY ENDING, MUSICO, SHALOM, PLETHORA, RELENTLESS, ABCG, ALAB performed in Valkyrie superclub in BGC. The event was also hosted by Andre Paras and Yassi Pressman and the venue was flooded with pizza, pasta and desserts from of course, Greenwich!

It was judged by JB Music's Denise Manahan, Civ Fontanilla, rap artist Shehyee, Yumi Laxamana and Up Dharma Down's Armi Millare.

My thoughts:

ACE FORM had good music, but the vocalist was kinda pitchy on some instances. It's like a college band playing pop songs. The song was good coz it has recall especially on the chorus.

HAPPY ENDING showed quite how experienced they are. Their song was a mix of alternative, a little reggae and pop. It's like they've been doing this for a long time.

MUSICO sounded young. They had an alternative pop vibe on their song, it was quite happy. Maybe it's something that started from friendship, like a small jam session just to have fun.

SHALOM sounded a little matured, like a local showband who's been doing this for years. Like if you're in a bar and got there for music, they would be in it. The song they did sounded like a swan song for an action packed anime series. You get that? Lol

PLETHORA was a little dated, they felt like Guns and Roses mixed with a male version of Aegis, perhaps if you combine em. Their version was polished but again, might not connect with the young crowd. In a cruise maybe, sorry.

RELENTLESS had a very distinguishing manner of singing their song, like a band from the 90's. Melody and arrangement was quite nice, but you really have to stand out in order to win this, I just hope they did enough to do it.

ABCG was fun, fresh, not like other bands that performed that night. They've really got a good chance winning this.

ALAB also sounded young, did something that sounded good in a car, or when you're traveling. Maybe they can get third place, or maybe I'm wrong LOL.

In the end, everybody got their completion awards, but was and their fresh song that won it! Congratulations 1st Runner Up ABCG 2nd Runner Up HAPPY ENDING, and champion PLETHORA! Turns out the band I didn't like the most won it, but hey music is an art form, whatever might have sound great to me might not be the same for them! :)

Thank you for having us Greenwich! Til the next one!
