Don Papa Rum Announces Art Canister Winners

Sunday, February 19, 2017

I've always been in Art Fair Philippines but this year I went for a very special reason. Not just for the display of BENCH (which was so good by the way!) but because of Don Papa Rum's Art Competition. This is Bleeding Heart Rum Company's second year (the makers of Don Papa Rum) and they disclosed the winners. I was happy to see some of them still there after the winners were announced. Mind you, they had several artists who joined in representing Manila's finest galleries.

I like this one in particular but he got 1st runner up. He's Dexter Sy of 1335 Mabini. His work is entitled "Papa Isio" made from mixed media. While 2nd Runner up went to John Paul Antido of Pinto Art Museum. He did “Journey to Paradise Island” using oil on canvas. That was pretty good too!

The Grand Prize went to lone woman contestant who did “Field Notes for Papa Isio”. She's UP's Henrielle Pagkaliwangan. This limited edition canister will be distributed in the Philippines and other countries like France, Germany, the Netherlands and more mostly for the Holidays of this year. Don Papa Rum comes from a small distillery found in the foot of Mount Kanlaon. My family hails from that place too and we know how special it is. The reserve is highly regarded in most online stores where Don Papa Rum is available, I'm not surprised though.

Henrielle will get the honor of having her artwork in every limited edition canister plus a trip to Italy for 4 weeks in an art immersion itinerary. It's complete with airfare, accommodations plus allowances. Tin-Aw gallery will also be receiving the same. Congratulations to all the winners, they really deserve the awards.

Philippine Airlines Launches New Inflight Safety Video

A couple of days ago, I spent a fine evening with proud executives, their flight crew and a couple of press people to witness the launch of PAL's new inflight safety video. If you've already flown the country's flag carrier, you've probably seen the one they previously had and the company felt it was time to make a new one. The first one was adorable, but this time, they thought of going the mile to show off the country's finest destinations while they actually give you the needed information so you know what to do in case of emergency.

This time however, they're not going to use models at all. They've got regular joes like you and me to tell you the inflight video details and they've done it through a search. It took countless hours and tons of manpower to choose who would best fit each scene, but they did it.

Now if you're a foreigner, you'll love to check out the sights and sounds of the Philippines. In this 4 minute video, you'll see a couple of landmarks which are iconic ones around the country. Remember though that we have 7,100 more. This is just the tip of the iceberg, and local people also love it. In my Facebook timeline alone, I've seen about 15-20 people pronouncing how proud they are to see this. For me, I actually dig what they've done with this one.

Here it is, enjoy!

Regine Velasquez Does Full House Tonight

Friday, February 17, 2017

Crazy, crazy, crazy. That's three words to describe GMA's new show FULL HOUSE TONIGHT. Led by no one else but Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez, throngs of her gay friends and guests will get you laughing hard every Saturdays on GMA's primetime slot.

It's a load of skits depicting current shows, fun interviews, musical numbers, and your favorite stand up comedians in one place. The cast includes Tammy Brown, Kim Idol, Philip Lazaro, Nar Cabico, Solenn Heussaff, Joross Gamboa, Terry Gian (you'll love her!), plus Bianca Umali with Miguel Tanfelix aka BiGuel. In the pilot episode you'll really love the Miss Universe and classroom skits. Their guest on the first episode will be Dennis Trillo and for those who love the guy, you should watch this Saturday!

I am not even joking. This will get you sold. It will start tomorrow January 18 (oh yes this Saturday!) so don't miss it as it starts 9:15PM. I don't usually find it funny, but this one really is. I think GMA is going to change night time entertainment with this show. You'll see why.

Legally Blind starts February 20 on GMA

We just saw the pilot episode of Legally Blind. This is the series topbilled by Janine Gutierrez and Mikael Daez. As the title suggests, Janine plays Grace Evangelista. She's a lawyer, got into an accident and lost her eyesight. She starts poor, achieved her dreams by the sacrifice of her parents who worked hard so she could finish her studies.

Mark Abaya who also is also in this afternoon prime soap tells us how proud they are of their accomplishment. He says they did this out of love for the craft, and for YOU who wanted something new from GMA. It's a heartwarming story of a Filipino family striving hard to acheive their dreams. Add to that a little sibling rivalry, insecurity, office politics, relationships, loyalty, and may be yes, even love.

Poor Grace believes so much with people, but falls prey to the ones she trusts the most. The story is also very current, as it talks about vices, and what happens if you take them. The consequences are just a little scary.

You'll find out the story this Monday, at GMA Afternoon Prime.
