WISHcovery Finals Happens On March 27

Thursday, March 08, 2018

They're going to the finals, yes they are. I've had the chance to cover the WISHcovery launch last year and from the original 20 contestants, they've been trimmed down to 5. Going through tough rigorous elimination vocal battles each week, they got a few of them left and have also got a wildcard round. It was not easy according to hitmaker Jungee Marcelo, Ms. Annie Quintos, Jay R as they served as resident reactors on the said show. They get about 85% of the scores while powerviewing account for 15%.

The Wishful 5 as they call these grand finalists also had their respective mini concerts held in their home town and was broadcasted live at Wish 107.5's Facebook page for everyone to see. They were also given the opportunity to give back to their respective charities, now that's a huge thing.

VP for Radio Mr. Gerardo Etorma III says "We had our audtions in June last year and went around the country to scour for hidden gems and true enough Wish 107.5 found them. Out of thousands who vied for it, we got 20, and now after 9 months we only have 5. They have won several battles, this is going to be big!"

Jungee Marcelo adds "It was really tough to choose only 20, and had our favorites, but have proved us wrong. The best part is when we met them, did something out of their comfort zones and we also did something dark, something off tangent, with the mang tough battles they all have the chance and the right to be the first Wishcovery champion."

Currently, they have Carmela Ariola from Batangas, Hacel Bartolome from Cavite, Kimberly Baluzo from Camarines Norte, Louie Anne Culala from San Idelfonso Bulacan and Princess Sevillena from Makati to battle it out as Wishcovery's wishful 5 performs at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 27, 2018 at 7PM. Make sure you don't miss it because this will be a tooth and nail thing, I assure you of the quality of singers vying for the title because I knew some of the eliminated ones who are also champions in other contests.

So really, this is good.

PLDT and Smart Presents: Russell Peters for Deported World Tour in Manila

He's been in the business for 28 years and true enough, his controversial antics on stage has already got him in different parts of the world, making so much money on laughing about race, nationality and presenting it in a very CRAZY way (of course I'm kidding). The standup comedian I'm referring to is no less but our favorite bumbay (sans Sam YG that is) Russell Peters.

He's reached the country in waves, talking about how westerners feel and look at the middle east, Asians, yes even Filipinos. It's probably one of the reasons why his videos in Youtube don't only get thousands of views, but MILLIONS actually. And we're not even joking.

Well to give you a glimpse of this man who is going to be in Manila this March 10 at the PICC Plenary Hall, I won't be showing his video because it's going to be redundant, and funny, and you might think I'm a clown after this post. Thank you for bringing in the world renowned comedian PLDT and Smart! You've been doing this for years, I'm glad though that you're never going tired.

Remember he's not going to leave this town without making you laugh on Saturday. Make sure you watch him at the PICC Plenary Hall, he's not there to give you your individual diplomas (wink wink), he's promised not to bomb and just make you laugh and have a good time.

Share your moments from the show on social media by using the hashtags #SmartRussellPeters or #PLDTRussellPeters. But don't let the ushers spot you as you may go straight to jail if you take photos (collect 200 on GO). Haha I kid on most of the things on this post aside from the dates of the show. You may purchase tickets through SM Tickets at 4702222. This is produced by AEG and Ovation Productions.

How's that for funny? :)

Honestbee Expands in More Areas

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

The bees are now in more areas in Metro Manila

I think I’ve tried Honestbee in the past but I was a little disappointed because they didn’t have one in my side of QC. In a way, I didn’t get to try it at least, so now I got news that they are now expanding in more areas of Metro Manila.

More areas in Metro Manila means they now include Novaliches, Malabon, Valenzuela, Marikina, and some places in the East like Antipolo, Cainta. They also have more in the north like Malolos and Meycauayan in Bulacan. Aside from that, Honestbee also has launched its operations in Metro Cebu, now isn't that great news?
Honestbee is a full concierge service, so if you’re so busy working or attending to your family, some busy Honestbee Shopper is doing the groceries for you, or even getting your food from your favorite restaurants, or just getting errands which you didn’t have time for anymore and have it delivered to your doorstep. Their country manager Crystal Lee Gonzales says “Honestbee has always been about CONVENIENCE and now that we’re expanding to more areas in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, we know we’re giving them more time to lounge at home. We also now have wet market access to Farmers Market in Cubao, Alabang Wet Market, Pasay Wet Market and get all the products for the same price, we’re gearing to have more areas soon so stay tuned!”

If you think about it, their shoppers fee of Php99 and delivery fee of Php49 is so much cheaper than gas and parking fees you’ll have to shell out in your trips to the grocery. Aside from that, you don’t have to get all that trouble, you know how much traffic there is on EDSA right? I don’t think I need to convince you.
You may try and shop now, here’s Php500 from me so you can start shopping. And you can thank me later!

You can also download Honestbee on Google Play if you are on Android and the App store if you are on iOS. Just search please! (THIS COMPANY HAS CLOSED OPERATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES)

Chef Luigi Muhlach’s LUMU Beerhouse and Filipino Kitchen

Tuesday, March 06, 2018

Filipinos have always shyed away from actually eating their own dishes because they’ve always had it, grew tired of it, and perhaps the lack of imagination of people. I often walk in the Greenbelt 3 area to and from events and if you’re familiar with the place and go up the escalator, there’s a stretch of restaurants on the right side that’s not much frequented by people. Well I think that’s about to change now. You’ll see a pretty line of window panes with the letters LUMU. You see, showbiz royalty and Chef Luigi Mulach has just set up shop at this side of town and called it such because of his names sake, and what people used to put in their love letters when it was still done, it means “Love U and Miss U... cheesy I know but it fits the bill. We attended their grand launch together with his friends in the industry, showbusiness and his relatives. Not to mention his super proud parents Aga Mulach and Janice De Belen. Igi Boy has indeed made strides.

I heard about his story, and putting up this restaurant wasn’t that easy because if you’re like me who frequent food bazaars, you’ll see Luigi do the legwork. He prepares the food himself, serve it to customers and it has been like that for a couple of years. So just seeing this happen made him a little bit teary eyed, I could feel how hard he’s worked for it.

I guess it stems from what hits home, this new venture wasn’t much like a posh fine dining restaurant and he wanted it to be a bit more relaxed where friends and family could hang out after office hours. Just casual, not to dressed up, not a speakeasy pub, but more of a beerhouse. The difference though is that it’s not like the ones that your Titos would probably frequent to, no GRO’s, no noisy videoke machines, but nice sturdy tables and chairs, a tight spot in the middle for a band setup, so you could enjoy singing along every night paired with ice cold beer and good pulutan. The food is where the adventure begins too.

That evening, we had the privilege to see Ogie Alcasid sing on stage with the lovely 80’s hits. Staples in my books, I really enjoyed it!

The Chicken Sisig, served on a hot plate. Mix it up and see how the egg yolk envelopes the chopped chicken meat, simple yet delectable, perfect to pair with beer!

Inihaw Samplers, a good treat for those who want good streetfood. It’s got chicken intestines, pork intestines, pork skin, and sweet pork barbecue.
This is their Cuapao, done like a sloppy joe so it’s a little like east meets west. This is good for starters.
Their Seafood Sampler, they know how to cook. No tough pieces, eat it while it’s hot!

They also have goat on the menu aka Kambing Sampler. The Papaitan, and several soup dishes are hearty and comforting, if you want something during a cold night, ask about it there.

This one I’d highly recommend, if you’re a little adventurous that is. It’s native sausages done in different ways. Each piece described according to flavour(adoring Filipino play on words), ingenious.

For the piece de resistance, this is their Lechon Kawali. The perfect cut of pork, lightly salted in brine (probably) then deep fried. I love the crispy skin, soft meat, which you can dip in spiced vinegar or other sauces. I love this a lot. Perfect for Keto.

Aside from these lovely dishes, they’ve got an extensive array of local and international beers. Not to mention even the Mucho size of a popular local one, so you get to save a buck or two compared to dining spots within the area. They have a pretty mean sago and gulaman, Mango drink that they do with flare. They also have cocktails served in glasses or pitchers, I bet they expect you to crawl out happy after all that booze. Try their proteins, the happy conconctions, it’s not that expensive either.
Chef Luigi Mulach

The dedication, the inspiration to serve hearty meals and well done Filipino dishes in a simple setting, plus how he wants to go to the roots of how the barkada system works, making it still affordable, that in itself will spell the success of this new place. Visit LUMU Beerhouse and Filipino Kitchen today at the 3rd Floor of Greenbelt 3 in Makati City. If you would like to hold events or have reservations, call 504-5240.
