Drop the Prefix Event with South Star Drug

Wednesday, October 02, 2019

It’s a good day to do good deeds today at the South Star Drug event in Mandaluyong City. I have a neighborhood branch and have been buying a lot especially when I was in Cebu. The brand is launching a campaign for you to drop the prefix on the word Disability, and just leave Ability.

Ms. Christine Tuerres the GM of South Star Drug says “We want to create a full cycle, artists talents and livelihood of person with disabilities and we will share the care with the Filipino people. We prepared a video what can be possible, hoping you see the persons with abilities. Our tagline “We care a little more” strengthens our vision of inclusion, we now have 23 employees who are PWD’s and put them in the workplace. We are taught to love and be loved. Everyone should be valued. What they have done in this project have been the provider for their loved ones. This is done with Project Inclusion Network. We truly care a little more.”

Grant Javier of Project Inclusion says “We want to maximize the persons with disability since we started in 2013. We employed one person back then, but now we have 800+ in all industries made possible with our partner organizations who made this all happen. This is for the improvement of their quality of life, we can always do more. Not to only participate, but to thrive. Now they can showcase their talents, and make a living. We hope this change mindsets and industries so they can pursue their dreams. We hope they have access and showcase the talents of people with disabilities, where everyone is valued and appreciated. We need more businesses to partner with us in more ways so we can provide more opportunities. We also need to have more people to come out and show their abilities. We believe that they can, it’s about everyone making ripples of change throughout the country!”

Then they showed us their artworks, honestly, they did good.

They also had their parents, teachers and trainers with them. The South Star Employees who are part of the program also got to be in these photos. Drop the prefix advocacy bags will be available in select South Star Drug Stores nationwide starting October 15. You can now help them too by getting their products. Sewing and printing the bags are also done by an organization of PWD’s (called Goodwill Industries of the Philippines Inc. Tel No. 8373094), all proceeds will go to the workers 100%.

This is just wondeful!

Scenes From The Red Carpet: Ang Heherasyong Sumuko Sa Love

Today is a good day to watch a new movie and for millennials , the film Ang Heherasyong Sumuko Sa Love would probably be a good breather. It's not too heavy drama, it's a bit of a coming of age film that discusses the lives of 5 young men and women who just wanted to be happy, tried to present themselves non problematic but ended up that way.

The story takes a bit slow to tell but you're bound to root for each one of them and feel for their characters. Tony Labrusca is a discovery here, you might not hold back tears in the last few minutes of the film, so make sure you pay attention to his story.
I don't want to spoil things so take a break and check out these shots I got from the red carpet before the fun premiere started!

Angel Jones looks so gorgeous!

Dapper Kelvin Miranda

Tony Labrusca all smiles because his fans were there to welcome him

This is his first gay role, but he was more straight during a certain number. Jerome Ponce was an Energizer bunny!

Jane Oineza was a vlogger, you have to see what she had to do to grow subscribers

Myrtle Sarroza and Albie Casiño is a couple in this film, but not that perfect

Thia Thomalia maintained class in this film

Ria Atayde wasn't in this film, but she supported friends, always beautiful

Allora poked fun with the host outside the venue, she's there to support her friends too

That's the guy from the Jollibee commercial

Young JV supporting friends too!

Posted several shots of Seth Fedelin, didn't know he was so popular on Twitter

Go watch the film today and get your whole barkada with you. This is a story about friendship, mental health awareness and maybe, fillial love.

This is produced by Regal Entertainment Inc.

MMFF 2019 Hopeful CULION Shocks with JLC Appearance

Tuesday, October 01, 2019

I was waiting for this, the project alone had me excited and in some way I was already so happy with the cast, but last night's reveal had us all dumbfounded. They kept it a secret for a long time, I was even there before the shoot and I had no idea he was even in the movie. We got the shock of our lives when a familiar face appeared, it was John Lloyd Cruz and I could hear the gasps from people in the back during the first teaser reveal.

The movie CULION is gunning for the last 4 slots in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival and the script from the legendary Ricky Lee, director Alvin Yapan and Producer Shandii Bacolod tells us about the life and love which happened in the leper colony in the 40's. Officially cured of it all in 2006, people had no grasp of how gorgeous CULION is. I have personally visited the place and it was just jaw dropping views, one after another, and the huge difference is its people whom the story will delve on. You will feel their welcoming vibe, much like any Filipino, they will talk about resilience, hope, of which they have shown the whole world they can do. Ms. Iza Calzado tells us how it all became so real for her, also for Jasmine Curtis Smith who plays the lead roles for the film. They got to connect with their characters and how they have shown their capacity to love despite of their condition. It showed the strength of their spirit, how they all have encompassed Hansen's disease and overcome adversities despite the stigma attached to the then incurable plight of people from around the country. There are a lot of stories which can be told, and are still being told now by residents in CULION. This should show you how they've all gone through that and become the proud people they are today. Here's part of the press conference and the reveal of the posters last night.

There will be a lot of things to watch out for especially iconic lines from characters in the film, take for example Ana (played by Ms Iza Calzado) who said "Sipingan mo ko, sipingan mo ko ng paulit ulit.." (which asks a man to make love to her again and again).

I also had the chance to talk to Papang Lee O'Brian whom I had the pleasure of asking a question about his role before they went to CULION, and I was glad to see how he got immersed with the people there after spending several shooting days in the island. He saw what we saw, what the treasure was, it was Culion's people. Their warmth and hospitality, their triumph over adversities, it was what made them all so endearing to anyone who visited the place. You will discover that too, aside from the island's beauty, when it shows on December hopefully as part of MMFF.

Heto na ang unang pasilip sa "Culion". #CulionTeaser Watch till the end. Directed by Alvin Yapan Story and Screenplay...

Oh and yes, this is so much more than John Lloyd alone, but dang, he just shocked us all.

Let me leave also what Ricky Lee told us would be the cure for the stigma, when I asked him about not being a doctor and what he thinks about curing the stigma, he replied "I am a doctor (Honoris Causa recently, everyone laughed). I could say the cure for the stigma is knowing that they are human too." I felt that.

Can't wait to see it on theaters soon!
