MIA: Cute Film About Rocks, Plants and Feelings

Thursday, January 09, 2020

Just got off the theater at Fisher Mall for the Media Screening of the film MIA. This is a film produced by Insight 360 Films and distributed by Viva Films. This film stars EA Guzman and Coleen Garcia - Crawford. This is Directed by Veronica Velasco and written by Jinky Laurel.

EA Guzman plays a geek, unbelievably annoying. Coleen plays a woman who just lost her husband, quirky but straightforward. They met in a wedding, got hooked, the other was drunk, things happened. They are both weird.

This movie had really colorful shots, making the picturesque Palawan even more endearing. Things get close, but they talk all about climate change and stuff you’ll barf scientific terms for breakfast. EA and Coleen look good on screen, I’d mistake them for a pair if I didn’t know their real life partners.

This is interesting though because most of the lengthy dialogues happen in Mia’s home. She breathes alcohol for snacks and wakes up with a hangover, late for work the next day and musters a relationship with a bromeliad of which, I’d say plays a support role in the film. Her anguish, her bitter past drowns in the shower and gold label beer.

“There’s a grain of truth in every joke.” as Jay (EA’s character) says, they tried to crack a lot of it in the movie, but they kinda had mishaps discovering their relationship before they did become a pair. Mia was a mess, she crashed a wedding and got involved with them, barfed on Jay too. Grossness aside, they did good work on elements discussing mental health, their past and moving on.

It’s a film that touches on family, the intricacies of a supposed love of a man and a woman. It’s got kilig for most of it, and they also have a lot of stuff about the environment, realizations, self discovery, plants and rocks. Maybe you’ll learn a lot from rocks... watch the movie as it shows on theaters on the 15th. It’s quite cute.

FINALLY Barbie Forteza: The Exchange Gift Happened with Jak Roberto

Just had a short coffee class with Kapuso Prime Princess Barbie Forteza. We talked about her new show Anak Ni Waray vs Anak Ni Biday which will show this January, but she mentioned a funny thing that might have been in some people's mind. Remember those viral Christmas articles about her and Jak Roberto? Some were actually awaiting if their exchange gift did happen, but it only happened this year. The sweet boy Jak gave Barbie a Pandora necklace with an angel design sleeping on the moon while Barbie Forteza on the other hand, got Jak Roberto an Apple Magic Mouse and a lot of accessories for Vlogging. They're spent the holidays together as it is also their third year as real life lovers. It did happen! :)

The show she's in is also a remake which starred Maricel Soriano and Snooky Serna. Albeit not being able to watch, she got pointers from Ms. Snooky how to do the role. She is also doing Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko episodes opposite her real life crush Dennis Trillo. We did this while making latte art with the Baristas of Crema and Cream at Timog Avenue.

Here is our interview with her detailing the shows, right after our coffee session.

A Brand New Spankin DUNKIN’

You should see the new DUNKIN' store in Aurora Boulevard. It's a great new place to hang out with a more homey feel, warm, comfy chairs and a native wicker basket wall which they plan to do nationwide. There are plans to have 5 more very soon and it will happen during the first quarter.

Derek says "I love what they have done now to the store as they made it more at home, more Filipino compared to other stores worldwide. It draws you in, but still serves out the best coffee. I also love the Boston Creme, Bavarian and Strawberry Filled. I think soon they will only call it D na lang because they kept shortening it. I will have another show, an action project with Andrea Torres, watch out for that!"

Piolo adds "They also maximized the seating capacity. They also have design based on our roots, the iconic jeepney, the tarsier, pawikan, Mayon Volcano and even the classic Dunkin Donuts signs before they called it Dunkin today! I love the munchkins, and this store keeps evolving. I have a new film with Brillante Mendoza coming this year, and another one from Star Cinema coming soon. It is important to embrace change, it keeps you on your toes, do something new so your audience don't get bored. Just like this one, the spotlight is just here."

Dingdong says "For those who are in a hurry they have different cashiers now. One for take out, pwd/senior lane and the regular one. Now it is more welcoming, more warm because of the lighting. It feels to come home to a Dunkin branch because I have been here a lot of times since I only live a few streets away. They renovated it quite nice. I look forward to more memes made here, my projects include Descendants of the Sun which you will see very soon! Let's share more of Choco Honeydipped and Butternut and the Eclairs."

Make sure you visit these new 360 stores because it will be more hip, become a place to socialize and enjoy what you already are enjoying all these years. They have been here for 40 years, and they will keep growing!

Aiai, Kisses, McCoy and More for D'Ninang

Wednesday, January 08, 2020

Wow! Regal Entertainment Inc is bringing out a new film called D'Ninang this January 22, and yes it stars Aiai Delas Alas, Kisses Delavin, McCoy De Leon, Angel Guardian, Kiray Celis, Lou Veloso and a lot more.

GB Sampedro says "It's the first salvo of Regal Films, I hope you get to see this. I was nervous because some of them are only working for the first time. We put them together and felt like playing while on the set. It was just too tight to finish this before Christmas hence the January playdate."

Kiray says "I am Lorena, a pretty funny girl who always have something to say.  I learned from my Mom who was a former thief, in malls (she kids). I had a scene where they had to cover my mouth but I had colds that day. Everything was coming out, I was trying not to sneeze. My Ninong Bayani always says he gives me more than gifts every Christmas, he gives prayers most of the time and he attributes all the success I get now from that. My advice to people, not all material things matter. Prayers do wondrous things!"

Angel says "I play Sol here, a thief, who follows Aiai's footsteps. She does things, a little boyish. I have very generous Ninongs when I was a kid and I really enjoyed shopping."

McCoy says "I will be a little epal, comedic in some way. I had to interact with Criminology students to do this and had to not commit crimes. I had yo be on set early, but I am thankful for the experience doing this."

Kisses says "I am so thankful for all of our supporters. We are now trending in The Philippines on Twitter. I am always righteous, longed for a mom but finally meet her in these circumstances. I experienced riding a jeep, hang from the bars at the end and I haven't experienced that."

Aiai "I hope you continue to tell people of our movie. This is very simple, fun, and we have tons of young stars who gave their all. I play the Ninang here, leader of thieves, but when I found Kisses here, I was challenged to change. It was funny, very chill, we didn't have to force it to be funny because the material already is. I didn't talk to criminals but I remember a Yaya I had who took a lot of things from me. Ninang plays a lot in a life of a child, you get to be the person responsible in case something happens to the parents. I had to give a lot during Christmas, but of course the memories are priceless."

It's a fun film with family in the core, funny and yes, it's got your favorite stars in it. Go watch it and have a good laugh!
