South Luzon is home to various IP groups and communities. Much of its landcape has been continuously hit by natural disasters and their lives have been heavily affected. The folks from DigiP|us, through their social arm Bing0P|us Foundation knew they needed not just material help, but livelihood that could be sustainable. Bicol region always has been in the typhoon's path and recovery after takes time.
Folks from the foundation took time and visited these communities in Manalansay in Oriental Mindoro to get them units of solar lights and solar powered generators so farmers from local organizations would be able to have power in these far flung areas. These are used to light up their homes, power houses that produce handicrafts that provide livelihood for these IP's for years now. Their kids also need it to study, have education and provide power for their phones and communicate with others if needed.
Mothers like Ms. Gayot who want to teach their kids and study at home didn't have these lights in order to help with their studies. This is the first time they've had an opportunity to receive needed resources like these, in over 20 years that they lived there.
In the Bicol region, the foundation provided financial assistance to several affected families of Typhoon Christine, even those in Cam Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes group of islands and Masbate. They have pledged over 37 Million Pesos for it since November 2024. They did it with the help of government agencies such as DSWD in Region 5 and has benefited 74 families in these areas. Over 250K of it will go to house repairs and help affected children in need of education, those orphaned too. This certainly gives hope to those who live in these communities, and this foundation is just starting.
Just got out of Gateway Cinemas this afternoon after watching eco-horror movie THE CARETAKERS. Like what I mentioned during the premiere night, the video quality of this movie is something to be proud of. It was like watching something off Hollywood. I think they intend to showcase this outside the country because of the extensive use of Taglish and very intricate captions, something I didn't expect.
Much of the things happened in the home where Lydia lives (the caretaker) played by Dimples Romana. They prepped it for selling as it is a bit old and dilapidated. But the house certainly came with other things they didn't know existed.
Aside from the scary stuff, it's full of family issues, The teen and child stars are to be lauded in this film, pretty good actors despite their age as some of them have been in the industry for years.
Iza Calzado's character Audrey gets into a situation where she needs to choose, make decisions for her and their family. They also made the story delve into folklore, real estate, and the repercussions of bothering things in the house, and the surrounding areas.
The journey of their family through the challenges of the situation they are in would take time. Let them take you through that story, and make you be assured that it will be alright. Or will it? I watched it twice just to make sure, it really has its merits. I bet this will be a series, it looks justified to have one.
Let these two fine actresses make you feel the fright, the love for family that this story presents. This is produced by Rein Entertainment and released by Regal Films.
Jodi Sta. Maria has always been very good at her craft. As an actress, she has gone miles and bounds from being that Star Magic teen that did iconic shows Gimik, Flames, Jologs and Tabing Ilog.
Her recent stint in doing a Philippine adaptation of Broken Marriage Vow has earned her the highly coveted Best Actress Award for a Leading Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards, and still is eager to re-invent herself. A few days ago, she announced her newest venture... and created a new YouTube channel called The JSM Channel. Her goal is to put out light and inspirational content and she gave us a glimpse of it too.
Jodi says "How much am I willing to share? It's not going to be an open book, it's just going to be parts of my life that I want to share and only those that would give valuable lessons. If they learn something from it, then it's good! I don't want to say it's a platform for me to practice my degree, just a place to share what is valuable to me, and if someone relates to it, then it's good. If there's something to talk about, we'd do it there. For now, my focus would be the JSM channel, and I still have a few projects this year, please watch out for that. 13 years ago, the idea for this started but it was just the pandemic that happened. I couldn't say it's the right time, but life just gave me so many reasons, it's not something that was given to me in an instant. This is a dream project, and am looking forward to produce more shows in the coming months."
When they asked about Thirdy, she says "I asked my son about him guesting in one or more episodes but he's busy with school. Having a platform means you should use it responsibly, use it wisely, instead of just tearing people down, you ask yourself if it's something you can be proud of."
Jodi has 3 shows on the channel now like Live Light, Let's Drink to That, JSM Travel and Tours. She will be with AC Soriano and Cheena Crab on Let's Drink to That to give the low down on what happened in the news that week (while keeping it light). Needless to say, AC and Cheena were really fun to watch and banter with so if you are fond of that, go watch it on the JSM channel.
