Wee Nam Kee's Offerings This Holiday Season!

Friday, November 25, 2016

Sorry for the facade shot, I was in a hurry to go in. Welcome to Wee Nam Kee!

For those who have already dined here, the restaurant probably needs no introduction. This is Wee Nam Kee, a Singaporean themed restaurant from our friends from the Relish Group. They serve hearty Singaporean dishes which you would probably miss if you've already been to Singapore. I don't know if there's already a survey but from what I know, this restaurant serves one of the best versions of Singapore's Hainanese Chicken Rice. Though aside from their best sellers, they've come up with 4 new dishes so you could get to enjoy MORE when you dine in a Wee Nam Kee restaurant near you!

Wee Nam Kee

First up is the Laksa Lava Fish Cake. It's you not so usual fish cake this time as it has the Laksa flavor profile on it. So make sure you're ready for hints of coconut milk, chili, ginger, all in one bite. It is served as 2 cakes, for Php 195. Pretty spicy, but I'd have this instead of the usual one. I like the kick a lot.

Wee Nam Kee

This one is the Beef with Peach Mint Sauce. As the name suggests, it's got shards of Beef strips, pureed peach fruit made into a glaze (served on the side) and a couple of bell peppers, onions sauteed with the potatoes and beef plus some ribbons of mint mixed in which had it produce a hint of its flavor. This would be a good alternative if you're a little too tired of Beef and Broccoli.

Wee Nam Kee

You probably have had Cereal Prawns if you have gone to Singapore, but I'm sure you haven't had Cereal Soft Shell Crab yet. The concept is simple, it is like the former but they use seasonal Soft Shell Crabs. It's that melt in your mouth, all crispy crab which I don't usually see in the Philippines but apparently they've already tapped a supplier that may get us the chance to have this during the holidays. That's good news, especially for those who tend to be addicted to it at first bite. I could already taste it!

Wee Nam Kee

Chili Soft Shell Crab sounds so right too! It's basically just the usual fried to a crisp battered soft shell crab with streaks of chili sauce on the plate plus a couple of slices of onion rings. It's meant to be eaten together but if you prefer to just set it aside, that can be done too. I love onion so I'm not making excuses! The soft shell crabs are a bit pricey though at Php 658 for 2 pieces per serving. Although if you love crabs, it's all worth it!

They still have your usual suspects, like the recommended Hainanese Chicken Rice, the Salted Egg Fried Chicken, the Char Kway Teow and Satay. All unbelievably affordable and can be seen in one place, thanks to the Relish Group for having us at their Promenade Greenhills branch the other day so we could try these all before it got sold to the public. It's now available on all their branches, so go ahead and indulge because Singapore food need not to be in Singapore at all!

I'm going back for the Soft Shell Crabs though, I better be careful and make sure it won't get my blood pressure high! Haha!

Vic Sotto for "Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers"

Thursday, November 24, 2016

It looks like our favorite Bossing is at it again as he does the role of Enteng Kabisote for the 10th time in a swash buckling fantasy and adventure family movie called Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers. The plot now makes the small time fix-it all person become a full blown robotics genius as he battles the evil forces of Kwak-Kwak played by Epi Quizon in this installment.

Benok aka Oyo Boy Sotto will be getting his armaments ready (aside from the usual magic of course) and a throng of demi heroes with their own respective skills to make sure that evil won't succeed while Enteng Kabisote is around. Designed for kids and their family, OctoArts and APT Entertainment wants to show this pre-Christmas time as they want the holiday time to start early, even before the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Aside from Enteng, he admits now that he also would need the help of his cute sisters Nidora, Tidora and my favorite Tinidora (played by Jose Manalo) to make sure Kwak-kwak and his Bibe henchmen won't occupy Engkantadya and the Earth one more time.

Suited up, will Enteng and his team of Abangers save the world from these new enemies? Make sure you watch it on November 30, 2016 in theaters nationwide! The film is also co-produced by M-Zet Productions, directed by Marlon Rivera and Tony Y. Reyes. I'm a little sad though because I don't see Alden and Maine on any of the literatures. Maybe they'll another movie soon?

Gerry's Restaurant and Bar Gears Up for 20th Anniversary

Gerry's Grill started February 14, 1997 so it only means it's already almost their 20th year! They've done a lot, and they've introduced Filipino grill viands since then. Now known as Gerry's Restaurant and Bar they offer a lot of items on their menu now.

It wasn't easy, and they've had challenges like the economy, foreign brands coming in, innovation and change was inevitable. They had a couple logo changes and had to show what changes they had inside. They dropped the grill in the name because they now have an extensive menu. They now have 80 branches locally and 6 more outside the country. They plan to open about 8 more in the coming year. They will still expand, and feel they are jusy halfway because there are still a lot of places where pinoys reside. They also have Ramen Sora, Aresi, Bincho Tan, even Gerry's Plus.

They use the same suppliers, train the same and monitor quality and do random check plus a head chef in every store to maintain the standard of food. They listen to their clientele and slowly cater to their needs and what used to be a bar the only opens in the evening to the wee hours of the morning, to now a whole day with families and kids now. The plan now is to get to do something they have never done before, in general they want to be solid with their digital presence, run consumer promotions and slowly change the place, the lights, the mood welcoming a new wave of people to come insude their stores. Still a family restaurant but even better. Major renovations, sprucing up so you get the new look, a collective effort from their franchisees and the company because they're always been like that. So expect BIGGER and BETTER stores from Gerry's Restaurant and Bar soon!

P.S. They even had some of their first employees were there! She was a clerk and he was a bartender, now they're the worldwide operations manager.

CSB Lady Blazers were also there! This is the first time they are sponsoring the NCAA champs!

The Philippine Volcanoes were there too and they're now gearing for the SEA Games too!
